Chapter 018: Aunt Lan’s Small Breasts
The banquet ended unhappily, and under the escort of the Temple Knights, they returned to the sanctuary. The once-prosperous city of Modo was now in a state of chaos, with large numbers of Imperial City Defense troops moving about everywhere, unsure of what they intended to do to the city. Du Fan watched as they passed by, frowning slightly but saying nothing. Fortunately, with the Temple Knights leading the way and those Imperial City Defense troops knowing Du Fan’s status, no one dared to stop them. Upon arriving at the sanctuary, Du Fan and Xiao Yulong stepped aside and had a detailed conversation in front of the statue.
“That assassin, named Xuelan—is she really unrelated to Governor Brandon?” Xiao Yulong asked Du Fan.
“I don’t know,” Du Fan shook his head slightly. “But whether there’s a connection or not isn’t important. Even if that assassin was indeed sent by Governor Brandon, it doesn’t matter. As long as I’m still alive, he must give me an explanation. So who sent that assassin isn’t crucial; what matters is who’s behind this all!”
Xiao Yulong raised his eyebrows but said nothing further.
Du Fan smiled faintly and said, “But to find out who’s behind this, I suppose it will fall to you, Lord Xiao, to investigate.”
Xiao Yulong frowned. “What do you mean?”
Du Fan asked, “What do you think of that assassin’s skills?”
Xiao Yulong replied, “She’s not above me, but she seems to use some strange fighting techniques, so I can’t estimate her strength. But among the Temple Knights in the northern regions, I doubt anyone other than me can match her…”
Du Fan sighed. “That’s right. Even among the Temple Knights, few can match her. Do you think those Imperial City Defense troops can catch her? So it’s still up to you, Lord Xiao, to capture her. Otherwise, we might never find out who’s behind this.”
Xiao Yulong’s face hardened. “I’ll obey!”
Du Fan sighed again. “Then I’ll leave the rest to you. If you manage to catch her, bring her to me directly. As for Governor Brandon, we have to stop him from turning Modo into a mess. Hmph—stir up the waters so the fish will come out.”
Xiao Yulong’s face showed signs of contemplation, but after a moment, he said in a low voice, “I understand. I’ll go handle it right away.”
Du Fan nodded and said, “Go ahead!”
Xiao Yulong bowed slightly before quickly retreating.
Du Fan slowly stood up, sighing softly. Under these circumstances, he had far too few people at his disposal. He hoped the people from Regen City would arrive soon—only then would he have enough strength to take bold action. Everything he was doing in Modo City was merely by leveraging others’ power, such as that of the Northern Legion and the Holy Church. He couldn’t even command a single member of the Temple Knights in Modo City. Thankfully, that Northern War God remained devout and loyal; otherwise, he might have died countless times already!
Having suffered two assassination attempts in a row, he wanted to take drastic measures, but he really had no choice. If he had more strength at his disposal, how could those fools keep causing trouble?
Status! Position! Power! Strength! Money!
These things were all essential at any time. If he could survive and leave this northern region to return to the capital, he would need to strengthen his own core forces as well!
But for now, he really didn’t have time! No time at all!
With a bitter smile on his face, Du Fan shook his head slightly before leaving the chapel and returning to his room.
Yet as soon as he reached the door, he suddenly stopped.
He had spent the night here yesterday, so he was very familiar with the furnishings in the room. By the window stood a large Gothic-style wooden bed. In front of it was a small round table made of nanmu wood, along with a armchair. The tea on it still seemed warm—probably refreshed by some attentive servant before he arrived…
But Du Fan still couldn’t help frowning. A moment later, he slowly closed the door and entered the room, sitting down in the wicker chair. He picked up the black tea on the table, but before he could take a sip, he let out a soft sigh and said, “Why go to such lengths, Miss Xue Lan? What evil have I done to deserve your hatred? Attacking me at the banquet was one thing, but now you’re still waiting for me here… Are you really unwilling to take my life? Or is my head really that valuable, to the point where you risk your own safety? You should understand—this is not just any place; it’s the holy sanctuary of the Holy Church. If I shout, hundreds of Templars may not be able to do anything to you, but taking your life probably wouldn’t be very difficult either.”
Before his words faded, a silver flash appeared—a delicate dagger was already pressed against Du Fan’s throat. Then, a figure stepped out from beside him, appearing as if out of thin air, leaving no trace.
From Du Fan’s perspective, he could see her striking chest curve. Somehow, her clothes were clinging tightly to her body, emphasizing her perfect figure even more, especially her tiny waist, which from this angle had a rather alluring appearance.
Her tempting face, however, was now filled with murderous intent. Du Fan had no doubt that she would slit his throat in the next second.
What a perfect combination of an angelic face and a devilish figure!
Suddenly, Du Fan had a strange thought—if she were in the red-light districts of his past life, she might charge a five-figure sum per night!
Miss Xue Lan, or rather, the assassin, naturally couldn’t see through Du Fan’s filthy thoughts. But as she pressed the dagger against his throat, she suddenly said in a sweet voice, “Don’t talk nonsense or move, or I’ll take your life!”
It was a shame her feminine charm was so strong—what should have been a threatening statement sounded more like an attempt to seduce him.
Du Fan felt his heart stir and couldn’t help saying, “Miss Xue Lan, why go through all this trouble as an assassin? Why not just give in to me? From now on, everything you want—good food and luxury—will be at your disposal!”
“Shameless!” she snapped. “If you keep talking nonsense, I’ll cut off your tongue!”
Du Fan forced a wry smile and said, “Miss Xuelan, why go to such lengths? Look at this beautiful scene under the moonlight—why fight when there’s such a lovely time? How about we turn hostility into friendship? I’ll pretend you didn’t try to assassinate me today. We can chat about the weather, poetry, or even have some affection before I send you out of the city. And I guarantee those stupid soldiers of the Imperial Defense Army won’t know you left!”
“You bastard!” Xuelan’s face turned red with anger, her breathing becoming rapid. But she seemed injured—her chest trembled slightly as she took deep breaths.
From Du Fan’s perspective, he could see everything clearly. Ignoring the dagger at his throat, he lifted his teacup and took a shallow breath, his gaze dreamy. “It’s really… so fierce… such a deadly weapon…”
Though extremely cautious, Xuelan didn’t understand Du Fan’s vulgar remarks. But seeing his lecherous expression, she knew he wasn’t thinking straight. She raised her dagger and said, “Stop staring!”
Du Fan shook his head, sounding aggrieved. “I’m not staring! But with your dagger at my throat, I dare not move. I can only look in one direction. After all, you’re the one showing it to me—how can it be my fault?”
Annoyed, Xuelan coughed several times before gasping, “If you keep talking nonsense, I’ll kill you!”
“If you dared, you would have done it already!” Du Fan said confidently. Then he asked, “Are you injured?”
Xuelan snapped, “It’s none of your business!”
Du Fan sighed. “Ah, that’s really pitiful. If I’m not wrong, you were injured by my magic attack last time, right? I doubt your information about me includes the fact that I can use magic, so you got careless and got hurt. Ah… actually, Miss Xuelan, being a assassin is a skill-based job. Since you missed your first strike, you should have fled far away. Coming here to hand yourself to me like this—how can you honor those sisters who committed suicide for you? By the way, I heard them call you ‘Sister Lan’ or ‘Aunt Lan’. You don’t seem that old—why do they call you Aunt Lan? Could it be the legendary ‘Aunt Lan’ with small breasts? But you’re clearly not!”
Finally, Xuelan couldn’t hold back and slapped him, shouting, “As long as I kill you, all those sacrifices will be worth it!”
But with Du Fan’s current skills, how could she possibly hit him? He simply stretched out his hand just in time to block Xue Lan’s slap at the last moment. At the same time, Du Fan let out a low sigh and said, “Am I really that valuable? Is killing me worth any price? If that’s the case, can you at least let me die knowing the truth before I die? Oh, and… Aunt Lan, no, Miss Xue Lan… do you know? You shouldn’t hit people in the face; what you’re doing is wrong!”
