Chapter 002: The Fangs of the Abyss

Sparitis’s face turned crimson. He seemed to want to cough, but after a moment, he managed to say with effort, “Lord Toronus… what… what does it mean to be obstinate? Though I have been defeated now… as long as you haven’t killed me, I still must guard this door… No one in this world except me! Except me! No one else can see the Demon God… Not even you, not even you, Lord Toronus! The Demon God belongs only to me!”
By the end, Sparitis’s voice had become shrill and agonized, like a scream of pain.
Gannon’s hand trembled uncontrollably as he said, “Sparitis… you actually… you actually… This is blasphemy!”
Sparitis wore a strange expression and said, “I am an Angel of Desire… I was born with endless desires—wealth, power, women… Everything in this world belongs to me… So what about the Demon God? She’s just another woman… If I can’t get it, how can you possibly get it! How is that possible?”
Gannon flew into a rage, his expression changing drastically. “Sparitis… how dare you say such things!”
Sparitis laughed maniacally, almost crazily. “So what if I say that? I’ve been by the Demon God’s side for ten thousand years. What can you do? Though I can’t see her, I know that no one other than me can get that close to her! Hahaha… Lord Toronus, are you jealous? Are you surprised? Hahahahaha…”
Gannon clenched his hand tightly and said bitterly, “You deserve death!”
Before he could finish, he exerted force, trying to twist Sparitis’s head off.
But suddenly, the space around them shook. Gannon let out a scream and couldn’t help releasing his hand. A large piece of flesh was missing from his hand, as if it had been bitten by something.
He glanced at Sparitis and his expression changed drastically. “Sparitis… you actually… you actually brought this out too?”
Sparitis’s expression was utterly strange. Something seemed to bulge in his neck. He looked at Gannon and sneered, “It seems Lord Toronus isn’t completely ignorant after all. Can you figure out what this is just by looking at me? Although my Sacred Realm isn’t as strong as yours, as long as I’m still alive, you’ll never be my match… Lord Toronus… and you too, wretched human…”

Spalitis glanced at Du Fan. “Don’t think I don’t know you’ve been spying on our battle. But with your insignificant strength, how much can you really understand? Since you’ve come here with Lord Toronus… then… go with them!” As soon as he finished speaking, Spalitis let out a fierce shout. With a loud explosion, his robe shattered into pieces, revealing his bare skin. His gaze was cold, and a sinister smile appeared on his face as he murmured almost like a chant, “Devour… O Abyssal One…” Suddenly, a gap split open in his chest and abdomen, resembling a giant mouth. Then, with a loud noise, the mouth widened, revealing rows of gleaming fangs. Inside it was a blood-red eye, filled with an eerie glow. The mouth grew larger and larger until it reached its limit—yet from Spalitis’s mouth all the way to his stomach, a massive opening had formed, utterly monstrous. Du Fan’s scalp tingled, and he couldn’t help but ask, “Wha… what is this?” Gannon’s expression changed. “The Abyssal Fang! It’s actually the Abyssal Fang! Spalitis… you’ve truly fallen… Young Master Du Fan, run quickly… I can no longer protect you, but for the Great Demon God, you must not die…” Before he could finish speaking, Gannon rushed at Spalitis, swinging his Demon God Axe and sending a wave of flames toward him. Spalitis’s wild laughter echoed through the flames: “Hahahahaha… Lord Toronus… Now that I’ve unleashed the Abyssal Fang, do you still think you can be my opponent? Do you really believe your little Demon God flames can do anything to me? Don’t you know what the Abyssal Fang is?” As soon as he spoke, the flames swirled together into a vortex and rushed into the giant mouth on Spalitis’s chest and abdomen. Moments later, the flames were completely consumed, and a huge tongue stretched out, licking around. “Delicious… Very well, whom should I eat first? Lord Toronus? That fool who refuses to die? Or that little girl who’s already unconscious?” Du Fan picked up Ringtone and jumped aside without hesitation. No matter who he wanted to eat, those waiting here were fools!

But as soon as he moved, with a whoosh, Spalitis appeared in front of Du Fan. With a strange smile, he said, “Kid, do you think you can run away now? Well, to avoid trouble and to ensure no one disturbs me and the Lord Demon in the future, let me send you all into the abyss together! The Gate of the Abyss… Why do you think it’s the Gate of the Abyss? I am the Gate of the Abyss!”
The moment he finished speaking, the mouth on Spalitis’s chest and abdomen suddenly opened wide. This time, Du Fan clearly saw a black beam of light shooting out from that monstrous maw. He gritted his teeth, trying to dodge, but it was already too late…
Gannon’s expression changed drastically. “I can’t let this pawn die! Damn you, Spalitis… You will pay for this!”
He suddenly appeared beside Du Fan, pulled Du Fan away, and stood in front of him…
But it was useless… completely useless…
The black light flashed by, and whatever was swallowed by it vanished entirely. Du Fan, Ringtone, and Gannon all disappeared into thin air, leaving even a hollow hole in the so-called World Tree.
Spalitis sneered. His wings retracted slightly as he landed on the ground. Then, a holy light emanated from his body, and the huge mouth on his chest finally disappeared. Spalitis regained his holy appearance. He stared at the stone door before him and laughed again, “Hahaha… Ten thousand years! Ten thousand years! I’ve finally regained my freedom and reached the destined moment, while you’re still asleep… Lord Demon! My dear Lord Demon!… I’ve always said that no one but me can possess you… Hahaha…”
Amidst his wild laughter, Spalitis waved his hand lightly, and a bolt of lightning struck, shattering the sturdy stone door into pieces and revealing a passage paved with white jade. The passage was brightly lit, stretching deep into the World Tree. Desire and struggle flashed in Spalitis’s eyes as he slowly stepped onto the stairs, murmuring, “Lord Demon… I, Spalitis… have come to welcome you, to possess you…”
…
All around was endless darkness. It seemed as though countless flames were scattered everywhere in the darkness, but the darkness was so profound, and the flames so tiny, that it was impossible to see where one was.
Du Fan coughed and slowly woke up. He looked around and couldn’t help but sigh bitterly. Was this place the so-called abyss?

He was completely soaked, as if he had been in water. Du Fan casually summoned a small fireball and glanced at it, then couldn’t help frowning. All around was blood—endless blood, covering everything within sight. Occasionally, some ancient buildings and old trees appeared, arousing confusion.

Du Fan couldn’t help but scowl and muttered, “Is this really the Abyss?”

“This is the Abyss!” a weak voice came through. Du Fan looked over and saw Ringo half-submerged in the water, gasping for breath while speaking softly.

Frowning, Du Fan walked over, helped her up, and found a rock to sit on to get away from the blood before asking, “What’s going on?”

Ringo whispered, “According to our Kara tribe’s legends, the Abyss has endless darkness above and a sea of blood beneath. Anything that ends up in it will turn into blood after thousands of years. If I’m not mistaken, this place is indeed the Abyss… Young Master Du Fan, weren’t we in some kind of Demon God Temple? How did we suddenly end up here?”

“Well?” Du Fan rubbed his nose. “It’s actually quite complicated to explain. I think if High Priest Gannon were here, he could explain it clearly… As for me… I’m still completely confused. But I think our being here is related to that Angel Spalitis.”

Then, Du Fan casually explained everything that had happened after Ringo lost consciousness.

After hearing this, Ringo was indeed stunned and said, “What? Spalitis had a mouth open on his chest? Gannon said… it’s called the Abyss Fang?”
