Chapter 18: A Good Person

Komer had never felt such a headache. Just as Vero stepped into Ugru, they received news that Tracy had arrived in Matdan. Either none of them came, or they all crowded together, which really annoyed Komer.
Vero’s arrival was like a breeze that finally calmed Komer’s restless mind. Seeing Shatima staring at her with her beautiful blue eyes, Komer found it amusing. This girl—why did she feel that Shatima seemed a bit picky and jealous? Could it be that she really thought she had completely transformed into a human?
Shatima was becoming increasingly accustomed to human life. She tried her best to imitate the women around her to integrate more successfully into society. The graceful and serene Eve, the straightforward and sexy Grace, the reserved and aloof Lomei, the cute and clever Finitz, and even the proud and cold Kakiya were all her models. Komer had once warned her not to deliberately imitate others; everyone should have their own unique personality. Blind imitation would only make her lose herself. But it seemed Shatima didn’t listen. Komer could only hope she would learn from others’ strengths without becoming a mess of copies.
However, Vero’s arrival seemed to spur Shatima on. Vero’s elegant demeanor made Shatima realize the vast gap between herself and her. She realized that everything she had learned so far paled in comparison to the stunning grace displayed by this woman. Even the smallest gestures she made revealed a captivating charm. While feeling envy and jealousy, Shatima thought she might have found another role model. Seeing the strange look in Komer’s eyes, Shatima believed she would benefit greatly from this learning opportunity.
“Shatima, don’t look at people that way. It’s impolite,” Komer had to remind this dragon girl, who was now almost becoming her personal bodyguard. Although she tried hard to act like a mature woman so that outsiders would see her as a Caucasian lady, Shatima herself knew her performance was a failure. Outsiders mostly saw her as a bodyguard, which frustrated her greatly.
“Komer, is this the beautiful woman you’ve been dreaming of?”

Shatima’s immediate response made Vero raise her eyebrows slightly. Komer had already gotten used to Shatima’s straightforward manner, but for Vero, such direct speech was far too blunt—especially coming from a seductive woman with full breasts and curves, and one who seemed to have a special relationship with Komer. That made it somewhat meaningful.
“Komer, why don’t you introduce them?” Vero remained calm and charming, her gentle smile making it seem like even looking at her directly was a sacrilege. Even Komer felt a conflicted urge to embrace her, yet thought it would be a crime to do so.
“Uh, Vero, this is Miss Shatima, my friend. Well, she’s a good person. Shatima, this is Vero. It’s your first meeting, but I’m sure you already know her.” Komer didn’t know how to introduce them to each other. With one dragon and one human, it seemed impossible to find the right words to help them get along, especially since the two of them didn’t seem to belong together in any way.
“A good person? What does that mean?” Vero found it very interesting. It was the first time she’d heard someone describe someone in that way. What exactly made someone a good person? What criteria determined that? Seeing Komer’s awkward expression, the slight jealousy in Vero’s heart vanished. It seemed the relationship between Miss Shatima and Komer wasn’t as she had imagined—at least the term “good person” didn’t seem fitting for a woman with such an unusual relationship with him.
Hearing Komer’s introduction, Shatima was delighted. She pouted her charming red lips and wore a seductive smile. Even with Vero right in front, Komer couldn’t help but feel stirred. This beauty always triggered his innate masculine desires, intentionally or unintentionally. Maybe he should try experiencing what this beautiful dragon looked like in human form sometime—perhaps it would be uniquely tempting, irresistible even.
Shatima tried hard to show her charm in front of Vero. Komer’s introduction gave her confidence. In Shatima’s impression, Komer rarely spoke of her in such positive terms. “A good person” was at least a complimentary phrase, far better than his usual dismissive or mocking remarks—compliments like “simple-minded but strong” or “clumsy in social interactions.” It seemed Komer really liked her, at least he didn’t slander her in front of the woman he valued most.

“Miss Vero, I’ve heard about you from Komer for a long time. It’s only now that I’ve seen you in person that I realize you’re truly beautiful. Um, you have a scent about you—a scent that’s hard to describe, different from anyone else’s.”
Shatima, whose hostility had been dispelled by Komer’s words, suddenly realized she should engage properly with this uniquely charming girl. Perhaps she could learn from her how to attract more attention in human society without relying on things like fists, breasts, or buttocks. Although Shatima wasn’t very sensitive to the stares of those around her, she knew the men’s gazes were either out of fear of her violent temper or drawn to her full breasts and rounded hips—neither of which was pleasant.
“Is that so? What’s so different about my scent?” Vero was amused by this girl, who seemed overly “innocent” and straightforward in her temper. Though she wasn’t old, this woman, whose body clearly showed the curves of a mature woman, seemed even more innocent, speaking in a somewhat childish manner. This made Vero curious about who this girl really was and what role she played around Komer.
“Um, I can’t describe it right now, but you’re different from Eve, Grace, and Lomei. You give me a pleasant feeling—something that makes me want to get close to you,” Shatima said seriously, nodding carefully.
“Oh, really? I really like you too, Miss Shatima. I truly hope we can become good friends. This Caucasus is my second time here, but Komer never has much time to show me around. With you by my side, I won’t be lonely.” Glancing at Komer, who was scratching his head in embarrassment, Vero smiled charmingly, her eyes sparkling like stars.
“Sure, sure! I’m also idle here in the Caucasus. They all have their own things to do, while I have nothing to do. It’s great that you’ve come; I can accompany you around, acting as your bodyguard to ensure your safety.” Shatima, who had been bored returning from Livonia, was overjoyed to find a playmate. Komer was also happy to let the two be together.

Veyro’s arrival at this moment left Komer puzzled. With the war between the Caucasus and Homer looming, and Calais, as Philip’s most loyal ally, likely to get involved, Veyro’s special status created a dilemma for Komer. He didn’t want war with Calais, but he could do nothing if Calais decided to get involved.

Mahagumi had no information at all about how Veyro suddenly appeared in Ugru, which annoyed Komer greatly. But Veyro wasn’t a priority for the intelligence services, and Komer had never thought to keep track of her movements either. Right now, Komer really didn’t have much energy to worry about Veyro. Fortunately, Shatima had indeed helped Komer solve a major problem by accompanying Veyro on her travels. Ugru’s prosperity and its diverse cultural traditions piqued Veyro’s curiosity, so these trips never became boring even after a few days.

Her slightly curled long hair fell down, covering half of her delicate cheeks. Dressed in an embroidered nightgown, Veyro looked incredibly enchanting, like a fairy from the realm of the Forest Goddess. Sitting on the bed edge with her legs curled up, the dim light from the lamp cast a soft glow over them both.

Gently pushing aside her hair that was about to cover her eyes, Veyro listened attentively to Komer’s stories about his experiences since being thrown into a spatial rift by Noyora and Lorenzo, including his time in the Southern Mid-Sea. From the Gigantia Temple on Zogo Island to the city of Athens in Sparta, from Mount Olympus to Flanders, from the Red-Haired Empress Katrina to the Holy Maiden Kleper and Helena, Komer’s eloquence always shone when speaking to a woman he liked. Veyro would sometimes gasp and cover her mouth in amazement. Having such extraordinary adventures in just a few months was a rare opportunity for anyone. Though it was filled with risks and violence, those wonderful memories were enough to leave a perfect imprint on those who experienced them.

“Oh, Komer, I never imagined you would have such extraordinary adventures. Compared to yours, my life seems like monastic penance. I really regret not daring to defy my father’s wishes and come to you. Maybe then I could have experienced such things with you.”

With her playful complaints and affectionate gaze, the girl’s charm was like fingers plucking the strings of Komer’s heart, making him feel an uncontrollable tingling. But her next words quickly brought him back to reality: “However, I don’t seem to have heard you mention who this kind Miss Shatima really is. How did she end up by your side?”
