Chapter 7: The Death of the Fish
At this moment, Lorenzo was equally filled with surprise. He was shocked by the fact that this country lord possessed such versatile tactics—elemental magic came naturally to him. Before the smoke from lightning magic had dissipated, earth magic followed in quick succession. Even casting magic scrolls took time, yet this guy seemed to have an endless supply of spells. What pleased him even more was that this guy finally revealed his true nature. The appearance of the undead warriors confirmed the existence of dark forces behind him. Perhaps this could be an opportunity to uncover more about how those dark forces were infiltrating the north. This time, he had no chance of escaping!
Four swift figures rushed at him in an instant. As they flew through the air, the scythes of death, carrying an endless aura of darkness, stirred up fierce winds. Shadows loomed, and thick mist obscured everything. The four scythes rose and fell in the mist, creating countless shadowy blades that attacked Lorenzo.
Each step taken by the massive earth trolls on the ground seemed to cause tremors. Their heights of over ten feet were particularly striking in front of Lorenzo. Their arms, as thick as pillars, ended in palms the size of baskets. With every swing, they emitted a strong earthy smell, making one worry that hitting a target might turn Lorenzo’s fragile body into pulp and bones.
“God of Light, grant your faithful believer divine power. In the swirling void, all things are determined!” Without hesitation, Lorenzo uttered a prayer while pointing his finger. The two earth trolls froze instantly and, a few seconds later, turned into piles of dirt and dust on the ground. The two phantom warriors disappeared as if they had never existed. Even the wind dragons flying overhead seemed to sense the spatial anomaly at that moment. The immense pressure even caused the demonized wind dragons to shrink slightly in size.
“What an amazing control technique!” Even just with this move, he had to admit defeat. Guiding the wind dragons to circle back and whip up another gust of wind blades, Rebril inwardly praised Lorenzo. It was no coincidence that Lorenzo had become the deputy leader of this tribunal and could stand toe-to-toe with the arrogant Noyora. He himself had never dared to underestimate his opponent.
Within the Light Church, no more than five people could wield this technique of great focus, and fewer than three could use it with ease. Even those with limited knowledge of spatial magic, like Noyora and Vazinki, might not be able to use it so effortlessly. Apart from the Pope, perhaps only Frunster, who also possessed profound mastery of spatial magic, could match Lorenzo in performing it so perfectly.
As the illusionary warriors disappeared, the two real undead warriors also struggled to move. Although Komer had used the magic crystals in the fortress to endow them with intelligence traits and taken various measures to strengthen their physical functions, the extraordinary power of this technique was enough to overwhelm them. These undead warriors, who could already compete with skilled martial artists, could no longer move after taking a single step. The immense pressure from all sides finally made these warriors realize the strength of the Light forces. With two “pop” sounds, the undead warriors holding scythes could no longer bear the pressure and collapsed. The magic crystals inside their bodies instantly evaporated, turning into clouds of darkness.
Heartbroken to the point of almost biting his lips, Komer never expected Lorenzo’s power to be so formidable. The undead warriors he had painstakingly trained barely had a chance to show their strength before being destroyed. They were made from refined magic crystals obtained from the treasures in Damorlensk Fortress. According to his estimates, even in a one-on-one fight against Vladkov or Sorenberg, these warriors could have lasted at least ten rounds. Yet, in the face of Lorenzo’s magical powers, they collapsed before even touching him.
The wind dragon, compressed and reduced in size, did not retreat under the pressure of this technique. At Rebrí’s command, it became even more fierce and wild. With each attack, it generated violent winds, and countless solidified wind wheels and blades sprayed out of its mouth, swirling around Lorenzo and creating countless ripples and sparks upon collision with his Light Shield.
Lorenzo finally realized the strength of his former colleague. The wild wind dragon, under Rebrí’s control, acted like a magical dragon at his command, flying around him and attacking repeatedly. Although each attack by the wind dragon caused it to lose wind energy due to Lorenzo’s counterattacks, the endless stream of wind wheels and blades seemed inexhaustible. Lorenzo had no choice but to channel more magic to strengthen his Light Shield to counter them, which prevented him from launching effective counterattacks.
A hint of anger gradually filled Lorenzo’s heart. Continuing this stalemate was undoubtedly an insult to his own strength. Perhaps Nuoyola was mocking his arrogance at that very moment. Lorenzo could no longer hold back; he waved his Holy Angel Staff and swung it downward with force, driving it deep into the ground. Grasping the top of the staff with both hands, he pulled upward with all his might. The staff became strangely transparent, still firmly embedded in the floor, while a circular beam of light slowly rose from its tip.
Seeing Lorenzo’s serious expression, Rebrí also grew anxious. He urged the Wind Dragon to launch more fierce attacks while quietly observing the Holy Angel Staff in Lorenzo’s hands. When he saw a brilliant beam of light separate from the staff and rise into the sky, a sense of powerlessness overwhelmed Rebrí. How had he done this?! The power sealed within the Holy Angel Staff could be unlocked and used by him, and that beam of light was clearly the Great Light Sword—the ultimate manifestation of a mage’s power. With the help of the Holy Angel Staff, Lorenzo could skillfully unleash such power without harming his own core. With that sword in hand, who could rival him?
At the same time, seeing Rebrí’s gaze shift from shock to despair, and then from despair to calmness, Komer also realized the crisis approaching. Without further hesitation, he unleashed the last two magic scrolls he had stored and, with a solemn expression, threw his Black Crystal Staff into the air.
As the Black Crystal Staff fell to the ground and shattered into countless crystal fragments, a black smoke instantly transformed into the giant head of the god of darkness, Hades. Biting his finger, three drops of blood fell into the black smoke, causing the head of Hades to glow with a sinister red light.
“Dark Blood Devour?!”, even Nuoyola, who had always remained calm, couldn’t help but exclaim in surprise. This Dark Blood Devour involved gathering the resentment of countless ghostly souls, refining it through special necromantic spells, and sealing it somewhere. To cast it required not only a strong dark magic power but also mastery of the unlocking incantations, plus the use of one’s own lifeblood—making it extremely complex. Yet once unleashed, it was nearly impossible for a mage to resist with mere light magic. No matter how powerful they were, they needed special artifacts or magical tools to avoid it. And now, this guy actually possessed such a technique!
After being soaked in the blood droplets, the portrait of the god of the underworld, Hades, seemed to be endowed with wisdom and a soul. Without the need for Komer’s control, it swiftly drifted above Lorenzo. The powerful winds unleashed by the wind dragon had no effect on it. Once it found its target, the portrait transformed into a mass of black mist that kept expanding, completely enveloping Lorenzo’s body.
At first, Lorenzo wasn’t aware of the impending crisis. His focus was entirely on unleashing his Light Sword. He was absolutely confident that no one could withstand the supreme power of that sword. He simply didn’t want to waste his sacred energy on those two guys. The power of his Holy Angel Staff could make up for that, which made him secretly glad he hadn’t gone without it this time.
The brilliant light sword leaped out of the staff and danced in the air, spinning rapidly before transforming into a dazzling light wheel. With just two strikes, the once invincible wind dragon was torn to pieces and vanished into thin air. The light wheel swept through everything in its path, forcing Rebrí, who had lost his wind dragon, to rapidly unfold three magic scrolls and use three earth barriers to barely delay the sword’s pursuit and avoid the devastating strike.
While Rebrí struggled desperately to escape the sword’s pursuit, Lorenzo also found himself in crisis. He never expected the corrosive power of that black mist to be so strong. His mighty light shield offered no resistance at all, acting like a demon that devoured everything. Before Lorenzo could react further, his external light shield collapsed and was completely consumed by the black mist. At that moment, he regretted bitterly having abandoned wearing his light robes, which were undoubtedly the best weapon against such dark corruption magic. Now, the encroaching black mist forced him to pay a heavy price!
“Damn you! I’ll make sure you never get to rise again!” Filled with rage, he unleashed his sacred energy. The blood-red-black mist was shattered by the immense force radiating from his concentrated magical power. Lorenzo was so furious his eyes seemed to glow gold. Pointing his sword, he had only one thought in mind: to throw that damned country bumpkin into the depths of hell!
