Chapter 6: Fury No One Can Bear, Section 9
His chest felt as though it had been suddenly torn apart by some mysterious force, and the air drawn into his lungs turned into blazing flames. In just an instant, his black-haired eyes blurred…
Already exhausted, coupled with the relentless pursuit that demanded all his strength, his condition was now beyond even the word “terrible.” Waves of pain surged from every part of his body, striking his resilient nerves. His strong frame was covered in wounds of various sizes, their vibrant colors lost under the desert’s ravages. His once peaceful face was now completely dominated by twitching muscles, making him resemble a fierce ghost from afar. Yet, he still refused to fall.
He couldn’t fall, must not fall—absolutely… he couldn’t fall.
Even though his body was extremely weak, even though exhaustion might knock him down at any moment, even though his eyes could no longer see clearly and his nerves were weakened, Black Hair knew he no longer had any reason to fall.
Just because… of that seemingly unremarkable symbol. And what it once represented.
Earth Federation, Huaguo.
Silently, two streams of hot tears rolled down his cheeks.
The fierce winds of the night swept across the desert like mischievous children, lifting sand particles that struck people like knives. The scorching heat of the day had turned into biting cold, inflicting unforgettable pain on any creature that dared to stay there. On the dunes, Black Hair’s seemingly unimposing figure stood straight, allowing the sharp sand to tear open his freshly healed wounds. Bright red blood dripped once again into the swirling yellow sand.
A symbol, a man. A silent exchange on this quiet night.
No one knew what filled Black Hair’s heart at that moment, nor could anyone guess what kind of soul resided within that body that seemed utterly unassuming. But if anyone saw him now, they would never associate him with a thug, let alone a fugitive with a three-million reward on his head.
What truly defines a person isn’t how strong they are, but what’s in their heart.
He gently wiped the tears from his cheeks. Black Hair took another deep look at the blood-red dragon before taking a step forward. His emotionless eyes stared fixedly at one point—right there, in that direction.
It was a barely noticeable depression at the rear of the massive spaceship, roughly the size of a normal human. Within the huge hull, it was almost completely invisible. Unless one like Hei Fa, who knew Huaguo’s ships very well, would notice such a place.
The ship’s emergency ejection hatch.
This was the only passage into a sealed spaceship from the outside. Of course, this also required a thorough understanding of the ship, as well as advanced equipment and plenty of time. Hei Fa wasn’t sure if he could open a ship that had been sealed for so long. But he had no choice.
Based on his knowledge of Huaguo’s military hardware, this kind of ship wasn’t part of the transport fleet. In other words, it was a true warship. Even though it lost its formidable offensive capabilities when sealed, it still had far superior protection compared to ordinary ships. Under normal circumstances, even if his comrades were captured, Hei Fa wouldn’t try to take control of such a ship. Lurking and waiting for the enemy to appear, then striking when they were unprepared, was his first choice.
But of course, once he saw that blood-red symbol, his goal was no longer just to save his companions.
Because Hei Fa wasn’t used to letting his country’s property fall into the hands of foreigners—even if it was… his former country.
The emergency ejection hatch was a very special device. For safety and concealment, Huaguo’s engineers usually installed them in hidden areas at the rear of the ship. Yet this safety measure became the first challenge for Hei Fa now.
After all, the ship was buried in the desert at a 45-degree angle. The rear was at a high point soaring into the sky. So that seemingly small ejection hatch was actually over 500 meters above the ground. Under normal circumstances, Hei Fa could have climbed up using his agility.
But now…
The night sky over the desert was always so bright. In the biting cold wind, the massive hull of the ship resembled an ancient monster, standing quietly there. In the distance, a small figure was crawling up its surface step by step, seemingly on the verge of falling yet unable to do so.
50 meters, 150 meters, 350 meters…
Black Hair’s hands and feet had long turned white from the cold. His joints were blue. At this altitude, the severity of the freezing wind was countless times greater than on the ground. Even though he was doing his utmost to control his body and press it tightly against the ship’s hull, he still couldn’t prevent the potentially deadly swaying. At some point, almost all of his clothes had torn apart. With only a few strips of fabric left around his waist, he was practically naked. His strong muscles tensed as he moved, displaying an indomitable beauty.
Five hundred meters seemed no different from a path to hell for Black Hair at this moment. When his left hand touched the edge of the ejection port, he almost lost all sensation in his body. His vision became blurred, and he couldn’t see anything.
“Thirty centimeters left…”
Strangely, the more desperate the situation, the more focused Black Hair became. Under his powerful mental force, his left index finger transformed into a strange metal filament, plunging deep into the ejection port. A visible red glow appeared on his left arm—faint but extremely clear. Detailed schematics flashed rapidly through his mind like a movie, guiding him to the key points.
But Black Hair wasn’t a god. Compared to the world he was in now, the composite armor of Earth’s warships was significantly stronger, requiring him to expend much more mental energy for every exploration. If it weren’t for his unyielding determination, he would likely have turned into a dried corpse in the desert by now.
“Click.”
A soft sound.
The ejection port suddenly opened…
