Chapter 6: Fury No One Can Bear – Section 5
The vast desert, with its undulating dunes. Under the scorching sunlight overhead, temperatures reached unimaginable levels. The air was warped by the intense heat, creating an illusion as if in a dream, making it impossible to discern reality. Only the blue sky brought a hint of peace to this endless expanse.
On one of the massive dunes, the carcass of a sand worm was clearly visible. Around it, mutated vultures flitted about busily, swallowing large chunks of rotting flesh before letting out shrill cries of satisfaction.
Suddenly, a thunderous roar that shook the heavens came from the distant sky. A huge shadow, spanning a kilometer wide, drifted in from afar and gradually covered the sand worm’s carcass. The vultures’ shrill cries ceased abruptly. Their hairless little heads raised in confusion, followed by panicked screams as they flapped their wings frantically and fled… In an instant, dirty feathers filled the air.
Above, a giant steel monster was slowly gliding across the sky…
Leaning against an open hatch, Bloodpupil watched the scattered tiny black dots fleeing below with utter boredom. He yawned widely, a lazy smile on his face.
It was already the fifth day since the Black Gold Incident. Ever since they seized this light airship, peaceful and comfortable days had finally arrived. Their daily tasks were nothing more than organizing their equipment, browsing the mental network for information, and taking care of the guy who still refused to get out of bed.
To be honest, Bloodpupil was quite lucky. When he rushed into the airport, he happened to see this airship undergoing resupply. He also caught the guards being temporarily withdrawn. Though it was only fifteen minutes, it was enough time for this experienced killer to do everything. With his demonic strength, taking control of such a small airship was no challenge at all. The only regret was that they didn’t have time to load the goods they had worked so hard to obtain. Including the black-haired brat and those useful puppet worms, everything was left behind in Berlin’s parking lot.
Of course, such material possessions were utterly insignificant compared to their lives. Moreover, when Bloodpupil opened the cargo hold of this seemingly unremarkable airship, what greeted his eyes were boxes full of weapons and mech parts!
“Boss, how’s your body? Has it improved?” Bloodpupil turned around as he lazily poured a glass of red wine into his mouth.
On the bed in the room behind him, Black Hair lay quietly, holding a magazine and reading it with interest. To say this time was boring would only apply to Blood Pupil; for Black Hair, it was far from that. At least he could now truly read the texts of this world. Although he still couldn’t understand everything, it didn’t hinder him at all. It was far better than when he could only speak but not read.
“As usual, excessive physical strain. Without special supplements, rest is crucial for me,” he replied indifferently, glancing at Blood Pupil.
“What, in a hurry?”
“Nonsense,” Blood Pupil rolled his eyes and threw himself onto the sofa in a corner of the room. “Don’t tell me you don’t know what state Belin is in now. A major arms dealer in the black market—having his headquarters destroyed like that is a huge deal anywhere. The Belin government has officially issued a Class D warrant for all of us, offering three million for your head.”
“So what?” Black Hair ignored Blood Pupil’s nagging.
“Heh. It’s nothing much. But from now on, no city on Xieke Planet will dare to let us land there. Also, our names will be added to every mercenary group and hunter’s list. Even I’m tempted by the three million reward. If I could just sell myself, I’d be happy to do it,” Blood Pupil said with a bitter smile.
“The top priority now is to find a place to settle down. What are your plans?”
“Plans?” Black Hair pondered for a moment. “I’m somewhat interested in Silver Star.”
“A commercial planet?” Blood Pupil was surprised. “It’s a good idea, but this small floating ship hasn’t been modified for space travel. We can’t leave this planet at all. Trying to lift off forcefully will just turn us into space trash.”
“That’s not my concern. You’re familiar with this place—figure something out,” Black Hair shrugged irresponsibly, making Blood Pupil roll his eyes in frustration.
“Maybe I have a solution,” a timid voice suddenly came through. Along with the voice, the figure of a young girl named Sulei appeared by the cabin door.
“I can contact a group of interstellar pirates in the Silver Star system. If necessary, we can apply to join them. If they agree, they should be able to send a small landing ship to pick us up. Of course, it will require a substantial reward.”
“Be pirates?” Blood-Pupils exclaimed in shock. “Are you crazy? Forget whether I’m willing or not—even if I agreed, would they risk being shot down by the Xek planet’s fleet just to send a landing ship to pick up three people? Who do you think we are? The governor of Xek Planet?”
At Blood-Pupils’ outburst, little Su Lei’s face immediately fell. Her head drooped, her eyes red, as if she might cry at any moment. Her small hands twisted together in front of her, filled with grievance.
Unfortunately, this seemingly foolproof ultimate tactic of hers didn’t seem to work against Blood-Pupils.
“Alright, alright. Don’t look at me like that. Do you think I don’t know your tricks? Just tell me—who exactly can you get in touch with?” Blood-Pupils said, waving his hand in boredom.
“A group of pirates called the Big Beard. I heard of them when I was hanging around the black market. I also have their contact information.”
Hearing Su Lei’s reply, Blood-Pupils fell silent. He turned to look at Black-Hair. In this small group, Black-Hair was undoubtedly the most authoritative. It was better to let him make such a life-altering decision.
Under the gazes of both pairs of eyes, Black-Hair finally sighed and closed his magazine.
“Fine, I agree. But before that, I need to reassemble a mech designed for space combat. After all, it’s inconvenient without that brat around. Also, I need all the information about those pirates.”
“Okay,” Su Lei replied seriously. Just as she was about to say something else, suddenly…
“Boom!!” A loud explosion echoed. The floating ship shook violently.
