Chapter 45: The Mecha Dynasty, Section 10
Time passed in a tense atmosphere. For five consecutive days, Blackhair kept his word. Not only did he deliver sixty giant ships as agreed, but he also added ten extra. At the same time, an astronomical amount of weapons were swiftly delivered to those in need through an endless stream of transport ships.
It must be said that Blackhair invested heavily this time. Seventy giant ships accounted for almost all of Death Star’s production capacity during that period. Aside from maintaining the Snakefang production line, everything else was used to build these ships. The resource consumption for actual ammunition also reached staggering levels in just five days.
There was no choice. Ammunition was known for its high resource consumption. Each round fired required direct resource production, making it almost like throwing money away. This was precisely why energy weapons were widely used in the universe. Even though Blackhair controlled the richest 31 star systems and the powerful Twin Stars, supplying such a large volume of resources remained extremely difficult.
Fortunately, Blackhair was only responsible for the initial upgrades and prototypes. The large-scale upgrades still had to be carried out by Marshal Wick and Duke Poseidon themselves. So, let them worry about resource consumption. After supplying for five days, Blackhair turned his attention back to his own Death Star.
Time was getting tighter. For some reason, Blackhair felt a strong sense of crisis, as if the enemy could appear at any moment. This feeling forced him to keep moving without pause, spending every minute and second busy.
The giant ships promised to Marshal Wick and Duke Poseidon were just a part of his workload. The real burden fell on him. Only by equipping the Blood Wolves to the teeth could Blackhair ease his tension slightly. Otherwise, he would have to work tirelessly, just like those madmen from the Black Prison faction.
Snakefang was now in its fifth batch of upgrades, and it would also be the last. The power of these 3,000 Snakefang units was Blackhair’s greatest trump card at the moment. With these giant mechs, his dynasty could truly be stabilized. As for the warriors who hadn’t received Snakefang yet, Blackhair didn’t plan to upgrade them one by one.
He had other plans. Similar to past orders placed with large companies on Earth, a modification standard for a new type of mech had been sent to Madaro’s desk. This design standard represented Blackhair’s true needs.
Because Blackhair wasn’t satisfied with the current Snakefang yet.
After all, it’s just an initial model. Although Snake Fang has shown its value in combat, it still has various shortcomings—whether in flexibility, firepower, or even armor protection. Many of its features fall short of the standards for mechs, making it more like a warship, one with the appearance of a mech. This doesn’t meet Black Hair’s requirements. In his view, it has to be either a mech or a warship; trying to satisfy both will result in neither being satisfactory. Since the Black Prison Group can design Snake Fang, they surely can create a giant mech that fully meets the standards—every requirement must be met without compromise. Of course, aside from the inevitable challenges related to its massive size in terms of environmental adaptability. This is what Black Hair wants. Thus, the new design specifications handed over to Madaro included all of Black Hair’s expectations. Importantly, Black Hair wasn’t asking for a new type of mech but rather a modification of Snake Fang. According to his requirements, the modified Snake Fang should be able to perform all tasks that a mech can, while also having a new designation: Snake Fang Type 1. It’s a very difficult task. The Black Prison Group is currently working on decoding the rules of the Light and Dark Stones. Leaving aside how much energy they have available, just modifying an existing design rather than creating something new is enough to deter most mech designers who lack the skills. Modifying such a large mech is even more challenging than designing it from scratch, as many components are being tried out for the first time. Making random changes could lead to who knows what problems. Yet Madaro still gritted his teeth and took on the task. By now, he had realized that Death Star was shrouded in an impending crisis. Not only him but all the subjects protected by Death Star and the Blood Wolves were in danger. If the Blood Wolves couldn’t grow stronger before the crisis struck, they would have to pay a price— a price no one could bear… Baroka returned three days after Black Hair sent the supplies. He looked much thinner upon his return, along with over 300 former Sand Pirates. As soon as these tough men stepped off the ship, they rushed to Black Hair’s side, standing at attention like a row of spears, waiting for his inspection. “Hehe, Boss, we heard you’d returned while we were outside. If it weren’t for unfinished matters, I would’ve come to see you sooner. But it’s better late than never. Hehe, I just saw those big machines— are they new toys prepared for us?” Baroka said, rubbing his hands and smiling as he approached Black Hair.
Black Hair examined the fat man carefully. A hint of warmth appeared in his cold eyes.
“Is everything done?”
“Done. That damned viscount. Daring to touch our Blood Wolves. Of course I couldn’t let him off. He’s just too good at running; I had to chase him through five star systems before catching him. I hung him from the warship’s mast and beat him for seven days and nights. It was a way to avenge our brothers,” Baroka replied carelessly, though a glint of determination flashed in his eyes.
Black Hair nodded in satisfaction. It was clear that Baroka had become much more capable during their separation. Responsible for maintaining order on Death Star, he had practically carried the entire region on his own, defending the dignity of the Blood Wolves in Black Hair’s absence. What was once a plump fat man had now slimmed down considerably—now just a slightly chubby man at most.
Glancing over Baroka’s shoulder, Black Hair saw the sand pirates following behind him. They were all Baroka’s old companions, having followed him to this day. No matter how difficult the circumstances, they never gave up. In countless battles, they had charged forward through rivers of blood. They could be considered elites of Death Star. Seeing Black Hair paying attention to them, these burly men puffed out their chests, their faces showing pride.
Black Hair smiled lightly. These guys were still the same as before. They just couldn’t resist praise. A smile from him was enough to make them act immediately—each one surprisingly slick.
“It’s good to have you back. As for those Snake Teeth, you’re right—they’re indeed your new toys. When you have time, you can ask Monkey to take you to play with them. Of course, the old rules still apply: to get the equipment, you must meet the required conditions.”
“No problem!” Baroka laughed heartily and snapped his fingers. “Brothers, did you all hear the boss? Perform well later. Whoever can’t get that thing will come and spar with me one-on-one.”
“It’s Snake Teeth, Lord Baroka,” one of the sand pirates whispered.
“That’s right, Snake Teeth. Whoever can’t get them will face my wrath. My brothers aren’t cowards.”
“Ha!” The sand pirates below burst into laughter. But from Black Hair’s perspective, he could clearly see the murderous intent in their eyes.
“Alright, that’s settled. Boss, is there anything else you want to say? If not, I’ll take the brothers over now. Those big toys are really amazing. I can hardly wait,” Baroka said with a grin.
“Go then,” Black Hair said, shaking his head helplessly.
This guy is always in such a joking mood, never serious at all. Who knows how he became the leader of these guys—yet even the leader of such a formidable group. Everyone knows about Death Star now, and the Blood Wolf Warriors are also ranked. Those who joined most recently are usually at the lowest rank, followed by the four major families. Above those are the original sand pirates and pirates. It can be said that in terms of combat strength throughout Death Star, aside from Blackhair and a few leaders, these sand pirates and pirates are among the best. This status wasn’t earned through seniority but through actual combat prowess, accumulated over countless battles. Those who couldn’t withstand the trials died; only the strong remained. The sand pirates and pirates have followed Blackhair the longest and participated in the most battles, so the competition is extremely fierce. There’s a reason they can become the ace fighters among the Blood Wolves. Of course, their equipment is also the best on Death Star. Baroka said he’d train them alone if they couldn’t get a Snake Tooth, and there was absolutely no exaggeration. Ordinary warriors might need ten people to afford one Snake Tooth, but which of Baroka’s subordinates doesn’t have their own dedicated mecha? This time, the Snake Tooth is no exception. So, over the next day, outer space around Death Star was once again occupied by these crazy guys. The shockwaves from the fierce battles between Blood Moon and Sunset Roar echoed like explosions. Wild howls could also be heard from the channels from time to time. But this had nothing to do with Blackhair anymore. At this moment, he had returned to his cloud tower, sitting quietly in his armchair. Unlike before, he didn’t drink alcohol today but brewed a cup of green tea. He simply sat there quietly, savoring it alone. His deep eyes gazed through the window at the distant starry sky, with a faint cold smile on his lips. It’s time, isn’t it? Emperor Moore, have you also begun to lose sleep over my existence? Such a grand plan was meant to clean up the filth accumulated by the Moore Empire over thousands of years. Who would have thought there’d be a variable like me? If you could, would you rather eliminate me right away? Just like all those hidden threats you’ve destroyed over the years in the Moore Empire? But I certainly won’t just sit idle… Tomorrow will be a busy day.
