Chapter 45: The Mecha Dynasty, Section 5

Reborn Humans?
Hei Fa frowned, staring coldly at the man before him.
It had to be said that Hei Fa was quite sensitive to this term.
He remembered being treated as a subject for genetic modification experiments back on Earth. Before that, countless people died every year for such experiments. Those so-called great nations that claimed to uphold justice and human rights were actually the ones who truly disregarded human rights. If he wasn’t lucky, he might never wake up again.
For this reason, Hei Fa had an extremely keen sensitivity to terms like “rebirth” and “modification.” Whenever such topics arose, even if he showed no outward displeasure, he would inevitably feel disgust inside.
Unfortunately, the Wanderers, who supported him the most, were experts in modification. So Hei Fa could only allow them to do as they wished. As long as they didn’t choose subjects from his subordinates, he pretended not to see it.
But this time…
Hei Fa examined the man carefully before him and suddenly asked, “What’s your name?”
“Reborn Human No. 9, my respected master,” the man replied respectfully.
“Reborn Human No. 9…” Hei Fa’s gaze grew even colder. “Don’t you have your own name?”
“Reborn Human No. 9—here to serve you, my respected master,” the blond man replied respectfully, seemingly unbothered by Hei Fa’s increasingly stern look. Yet his answers were as dull as those of an idiot or a recording machine, lacking any originality.
“No need to ask. He doesn’t have those memories in his mind,” Keh’s lazy voice came through. Hei Fa turned his head and saw it climbing up the cave ceiling.
To be honest, Keh’s wriggling manner was quite unappealing. As it moved within its own body, it resembled a plump, wobbling insect. Of course, Hei Fa knew those weren’t muscles but rather numerous wandering cells.
To be precise, Keh was a collection of cells. It had no true physical body at all.
Frowning, Hei Fa’s voice sounded dry. “What do you mean by that?”
“Nothing much. But you should understand his situation. Just like those monkeys back then—those who wake up are all blank slates. We Wanderers can’t extract any information from their minds at all,” Keh continued talking on its own, suddenly muttering to itself.

“The mental control of the Moors is getting stronger by the day. When will my people be able to possess such abilities? Just thinking about it excites me—perfect physical reconstruction and flawless mental control. What kind of creatures could be created?” At these words, Core’s massive body trembled suddenly. “Blackhair, didn’t you go to the Moor Empire this time? How was it? Did you manage to get their mental control system?”
“No,” Blackhair shook his head regretfully. “I thought you had forgotten. But don’t you always leave a part of your mind with me? How could you not know about this?”
“Hehe…” Hearing Blackhair’s question, Core laughed sheepishly. “That was just talk. Do you think moving one’s mind doesn’t consume energy? Even with my own tissues, if the distance is too great, just establishing a mental connection would likely cost me a month’s worth of energy. Although the Death Star has plenty of radiation energy, it can’t be wasted like that.”
“…” Blackhair stared at Core speechlessly, unable to say anything more.
He had thought this guy was always by his side protecting him, which made him bold enough to act recklessly in the Moor Empire. But it turned out he had been lying to him the whole time. The thought that he had charged into battles using his flagship several times made Blackhair furious.
Damn it, do you think the space battles in the Moor Empire are the same as those in the human world? How can they not die no matter how hard they fight? The giant ships of the Moor Empire—all equipped with super-powered weapons. Those terrifying energy beams with diameters of hundreds or even thousands of meters—if they had hit him back then…
Blackhair subtly curled his lips but said nothing.
It wasn’t that he didn’t have complaints, but since he was already back, it made no sense to say too much. Besides, if he were that easy to kill, he would have turned to ashes by now. What did it matter to Core?
With that thought, Blackhair shrugged. “Alright, let’s talk about something serious. What’s with these Regenerates? And those brain tissues—did you turn them into this?”
“No. This is just a test subject,” Core replied quickly. “Regenerates—just as the name suggests. I rebuilt their physical tissues and combined them with their original brains, resulting in what you see. But the appearance of these physical tissues wasn’t something I set arbitrarily; it’s a natural outcome. In other words, they were already like this. I merely restored them to their original state.”
“Oh?” Blackhair was immediately surprised. “You mean, they already had this appearance before their brain tissues were removed?”

“That’s right!” Core replied firmly.
Though his voice was heard, an eerie silence descended upon the entire cave. The black-haired man sat quietly, a faint glimmer in his eyes, lost in thought. Core didn’t want to disturb him. And Replicant 9, having received no answer, also stood quietly aside. The cave was so silent that one could hear a needle falling to the ground.
His original appearance?
Inside, the black-haired man felt tremors ravaging his nerves. In an instant, he sensed fear.
Yes, fear. An emotion that had rarely appeared in him now struck his nerves for the first time. In the silent cave, his pupils contracted, and his fingers began to tremble slightly.
Core noticed this but said nothing. The strange atmosphere in the cave grew thicker.
Blonde hair, blue eyes… a European face… his original appearance…
As if enjoying feeling his own fear, the black-haired man tightly pressed his lips together. He knew why he was afraid. It was a sudden thought: if Replicant 9 was indeed as Core said, where did he come from?
Could it be Earth?
Because only Earthlings could have such an appearance. Even among human societies in this world, appearances varied to some extent. Their hair or genetic traits differed greatly from those of Earth, where the black-haired man had once lived.
If that was the case… what exactly did Emperor Moore possess?
Questions surged through the black-haired man’s mind, accompanied by mild fear, causing him to tremble even more. Chaotic thoughts overwhelmed him, leaving his brain momentarily blank.
What kind of world was this… Could he really fight against someone like that? If he controlled Earth’s life, or even the entire planet, then who exactly was Emperor Moore? How powerful would he be? Was there any weakness he could exploit?
A weakness… wait… a weakness!!
Raising his head abruptly, the black-haired man’s gaze became sharp as a knife.
“Core, can you read the memories in these people’s minds? I want to know something.”
“I’ve already said it—this is impossible,” Core refused outright, leaving no room for negotiation.
“As it stands, they’re nothing but puppets. All their memories are gone. I can only recreate their bodies, but I can’t read their minds. In a way, they’re even worse than monkeys. At least monkeys still retain some memories.”

“Very well. In that case, they have no reason to exist.” Black Hair replied coldly, glancing at Replicant 9 beside him without the slightest emotion in his eyes. “Give up on these brains. Do whatever you want with them. Just don’t let them appear in my sight again.” “Understood. What exactly do you want to say?” Core found Black Hair’s behavior strange—completely different from his earlier hesitation. “Nothing much. Just suddenly thought of something,” Black Hair said with a cold smirk, casually adding, “How’s the research on the Light and Dark Stone I brought back last time progressing?” “I don’t know. That stone is now in the hands of the Black Prisoners. But I don’t think they can figure anything out either. They’ve been focusing their efforts on mecha research lately. I have no idea what progress they’ve made.” Core replied quickly. “Alright. I’ll go find them. You take care of dealing with these brain tissues.” With that, Black Hair headed for the door. Behind him, Core pondered strangely, his body writhing more intensely. Replicant 9, who hadn’t received any attention throughout, watched Black Hair’s retreating figure curiously, still unaware of his own fate. Were they all just unconscious brain tissues? Then, let everything reset. This is a cruel world; they shouldn’t suffer here. Emperor Moore… whoever you are, now I know your crime… a crime unforgivable. It must be washed away by me, the only one from Earth. As he walked, Black Hair’s expression grew increasingly cold, eventually becoming expressionless. Though it was merely a guess, at that moment, Black Hair was truly enraged. An invisible aura of terror surrounded him, even causing the surrounding unconscious flesh tissues to back away. The already spacious corridor seemed even wider now. Yet, despite his anger, Black Hair’s mind remained eerily calm. He knew exactly what awaited him and also understood his opponent’s weaknesses… The Light and Dark Stone! That miraculous stone must hide other secrets. Now, he would personally uncover those secrets.
