Chapter 45: The Mecha Dynasty, Section 2
A transition from extreme stillness to extreme motion. A series of extraordinary maneuvers. In the vast starry sky, the black-haired man piloted the Snake Tooth Zero model with ease, executing unimaginable actions. The massive mecha was in his hands like a delicate spirit. In just 30 minutes, he completed almost all the steps required to adjust the mecha.
But this was only the first step. Adjusting a mecha is a lengthy process, with most of it dapat be done virtually. However, the parts related to actual combat are crucial and cannot be resolved through just a few test flights. The purpose of this test flight was to prove Black Prison’s new theory—the theory of mecha expansion.
This theory actually arose under pressure from the Moore tribe. After all, in previous wars, the existing mechas were already sufficient. Their relatively small size granted them great agility and stealth, along with extreme speed and terrifying attack power. For a time, the Black Hair’s Blood Wolf mechas became a symbol of fear among all nobles.
But against the Moore tribe, these advantages were clearly insufficient. Aside from the Thunder God Fortress and Storm Assault Ships, Black Hair had few weapons capable of matching them head-on. The mechas he once took pride in were rendered almost useless in their presence.
Black Hair didn’t really care about this. In his view, strength came in many forms. It was normal for a mecha’s power to be diminished. But for the proud people of Black Prison, it was completely different.
These were madmen from the darkest depths of humanity’s prisons. If pain once filled their hearts, now it was pride—pure and absolute pride. Like a phoenix, they refused to allow themselves to be surpassed, let alone admit defeat! So from the moment they first saw the Moore giants’ ships, these madmen devised a plan—a crazy plan.
They wanted to create the most powerful mecha in the universe, one that was unique. Today’s Snake Tooth.
Inside the sealed cockpit, Black Hair felt excellent. Though he was still in the familiar control cabin of the Killing Emperor, the view before him was no longer the usual perspective. Instead, it was a brand-new holographic view that allowed 360-degree observation, with no blind spots.
Kurokami knew that this was probably Snake Tooth’s perspective. Only Snake Tooth, with its astonishingly huge size, could have so many surveillance terminals—otherwise, it wouldn’t have such a wide field of view. As for ordinary mechs, even the most advanced Killing Emperors, their field of view systems were compromised due to size limitations. Generally, a 180-degree forward field of view was already considered top-tier.
Of course, Snake Tooth’s power went far beyond that.
With its enormous size, Snake Tooth also possessed strength commensurate with it. A slight movement of its arm could topple mountains, and a stomp could make the oceans boil. Its weapon was a giant two-handed sword made entirely of Stark alloy, measuring 1,500 meters in length. This combat weapon, whose weight was measured in hundreds of thousands of tons, was simply terrifying in size. With a single swing from Snake Tooth’s hands, it could easily cut any known human ship in half!
If that wasn’t enough, the 36 four-channel energy pulse cannons specifically equipped for Snake Tooth could satisfy any desire for destruction.
This weapon, referred to by the Black Prisoners as Snake Tooth’s exclusive “gun,” was actually a modified version of the Moors’ flagship main cannons—four main cannons combined into one terrifying long-range weapon. It had a range of 9 million kilometers, far beyond line of sight, and its high-intensity energy pulses could destroy anything in its path! In human terms, it could even be classified as a strategic weapon!
Of course, as a long-range weapon, it lost all characteristics of a hybrid weapon and became a pure energy weapon. After all, Snake Tooth was simply too large. Although the Black Prisoners could design a perfect body and movement system for it, they couldn’t solve the issue of ammunition for long-range weapons. Not to mention that real ammunition was difficult to mass-produce, even for hybrid weapons, the amount of resources required for a single shot was enormous. Even if the Death Star sold everything it had, it wouldn’t be enough for Snake Tooth to waste.
Thus, cheap energy pulses became the only option. Only then did the Black Prisoners understand why the Moors specialized in energy weapons—likely their enormous ships faced the same problem.
With both close-quarters and long-range weapons, Kurokami turned his attention to other aspects of Snake Tooth. He activated the Killing Emperor’s main control computer, and a long list immediately appeared before him.
By this point, Kuroha realized that Snake Fang was actually far less formidable than it appeared. As the first prototype of a giant mecha created by the Black Prisoners, it had many drawbacks. The most significant one was its environmental adaptability. Due to its enormous size, although Snake Fang could fight flexibly in space like any other mecha, this didn’t mean it could perform well in any environment. In fact, it was useless outside space. For example, on a planetary surface, to prevent its heavy body from sinking into the ground, the Black Prisoners equipped it with high-powered anti-gravity devices, large feet, and giant impact modules. Only through these measures could Snake Fang stand on the planet’s surface without being pulled underground by gravity. Yet this was merely a temporary solution. Planetary surfaces are inherently complex, and for Snake Fang to fight, at least dozens of square kilometers of flat ground would be needed. Otherwise, even simple movement could turn the planet into ruins. Moreover, Snake Fang’s own anti-gravity devices were insufficient to provide enough lift, and the planet’s strong gravity continued to affect it constantly. Thus, during combat, it would become extremely sluggish and likely unable to even perform basic dashes. Could such a heavy, barely capable of moving giant fight? Kuroha didn’t know, but even if given stronger weapons, he wouldn’t naively think such a clumsy puppet could carry out any combat mission. A weapon that could hardly move was, in essence, just a target—sure to be the first choice for enemies. And this was only regarding adaptability on land. In water, the situation was even worse. Perhaps because it was the first time such a giant mecha was built, the Black Prisoners didn’t equip Snake Fang with any underwater combat gear. Although its well-sealed cockpit was immune to liquid intrusion, Snake Fang had no propulsion system for moving underwater. Once in water, it was little different from an iron coffin—worse than even a warship. Due to these various limitations, the only environment suitable for Snake Fang was space; otherwise, only aerial combat within the atmosphere could barely allow it to function. Its environmental adaptability could only be described as pitiful.
Yet even so, Snake Tooth still deserves the title of King of Mechs. Its terrifying combat power and kilometer-long body clearly prove its value. As he stepped out of the cockpit, Black Hair gave a firm pat on the shoulder of Chief Madaro, who had rushed over, then nodded.
“Very good!”
“Boom…” In an instant, the entire workshop was in an uproar. People hugged each other excitedly, and the elderly designers even shed tears of joy. Their trembling hands gently touched Snake Tooth’s armor. Everyone’s face was filled with emotion.
It was worth it—everything was worth it.
Receiving Black Hair’s approval meant recognition. The efforts put in by the Black Prisoners finally bore fruit at this moment. Their Snake Tooth would soon be finalized and quickly added to Black Hair’s Blood Wolf Fleet. As the most powerful individual combat weapon of the Blood Wolves, it would sweep away any enemies who dared to stand in their way. Even the massive ships of the Moor race would have to bow their noble heads before this new force.
Seeing these people cheering wildly, Black Hair merely smiled without stopping them. But after everyone calmed down, he slowly expressed his views.
The first issue was adaptability. Black Hair could accept the fact that Snake Tooth couldn’t fight in water. However, he didn’t think it couldn’t fight on land. For his future large-scale attack on the Moor race, a powerful weapon capable of destroying any surface defenses was essential. So he demanded that designers like Nemedas ensure Snake Tooth had the ability to fight on land, even if it was only one-third as effective as in space combat, which would already meet his requirements.
Another issue was transportation. After all, Snake Tooth was the first giant mech, and traditional carrying devices couldn’t meet its needs. Warships couldn’t carry it, nor could the space bracelets unique to Death Stars accommodate such a huge object. Therefore, Black Hair proposed installing an interface on Snake Tooth that would allow it to merge with a warship during non-combat times, just like those modular warships, offering great flexibility. It could then separate again during combat—something that would surely surprise everyone.
On this point, Madaro was clearly hesitant. After all, the Black Prisoners were still unfamiliar with the structure of modular warships. Adopting such a design rashly might lead to various problems. But when Black Hair pointed at the Leech Warship being dragged in, his face immediately lit up, and he nodded in agreement without hesitation.
In this universe, what other combination of technologies could be more effective than leech warships? With such a entity right before one’s eyes, all problems cease to be problems…
