Chapter 37: Visiting the Empire – Section 7
Short commands, an even simpler lineup than that. Not even the slightest hint was given. 372 Sunset Mechs formed rows and charged into the distant shark swarm. The lead Sunset Mech raised its massive axe high; its body tilted from rapid movement, yet it swung the axe without hesitation, striking squarely on the forehead of the lead shark.
“Pfft!!”
A muffled sound came through the channel. Thick streams of blood erupted instantly, spreading like a blood mist in the water. An area of dozens of meters was dyed as dark as silk, so thick that nothing could be seen! The shark swarm immediately fell into chaos.
In the crimson blood, a giant shark rolled around, its massive body twisted like a loach. A deep, bone-visible wound ran from its forehead to its gills. Its muscles bulged outward as thick jets of blood gushed out. Although the wound wasn’t particularly fatal compared to its huge size, it was extremely deep. Upon closer inspection, one could even see the stark white bones beneath!
The photonic axe of the Sunset Mech was the only weapon unaffected by any environmental constraints!!!
“Heh, turns out it’s just a waste too.” The lead Blood Wolf warrior spat disdainfully. He raised his massive axe and shouted, “Guys, hurry up! The captain doesn’t have time to wait!”
“Roar!!!” Responses filled the channel. The Sunset Mech swarm then contracted sharply before exploding outward, forming a sharp peak that plunged deep into the shark swarm.
The massive axe, like an invitation from death, swung through the blood without hesitation. Since the Death Star’s major upgrade, the Sunset Mechs had shown their power in water for the first time. With the addition of water combat-specific components, it proved true to the black-haired one’s prediction: the Death Star would break free from its past limitation of dominating only one domain. It would thrive anywhere, invincible!
But no one could deny that in this universe, not only the Blood Wolves could be called warriors.
Clearly, those shark creatures were also extremely fierce.
The Sunset Mechs’ ambush undoubtedly disrupted their formation. But after the initial chaos, these creatures revealed a shocking side—one that was utterly vicious and cruel.
Several sharks suddenly rushed up from behind. They bit down on their injured companion at once, and after a few tugs, they torn it to pieces. Blood and internal organs gushed out instantly, spreading throughout the water. The intense stench made even the Blood Wolf warriors inside their mechs feel nauseous.
But this was just the beginning. The real struggle lay ahead in the battles against these sharks.
Each of these sharks was hundreds of meters long, roughly the size of a small warship. Only after coming into contact did the warriors realize how incredibly strong they were, with teeth as sharp as knives. Even the toughest armor would be torn to shreds if attacked by three sharks at once. Moreover, unlike in past battles, these sharks were not afraid of close combat.
In fact, close combat might well be exactly what they wanted.
Because they had no means of attacking from a distance. Their only method of attack was tearing.
In the crimson seawater, one shark suddenly rushed forward at lightning speed toward a Sunset Mech that had just swung its giant axe. It bit down without hesitation. The sharp teeth scraped violently against the Sunset Mech’s armor, sparking intensely in the water!!
From such close range, the Blood Wolf warrior inside the Sunset Mech could clearly see the blood-red eyes and fierce gaze of the shark. Yet he showed no fear. Seeing his mech’s right hand bitten by the shark, he quickly reacted—using the left hand to grab the giant axe and chopping off his right hand in one swing.
A severe pain surged through the mental connection in his mind, causing his face to twitch, but it didn’t hinder his reactions at all. His fingers flew frantically over the keyboard. The Sunset Mech immediately crouched low in the water, its massive olive-shaped underwater combat module pressing straight toward the shark.
“Crack!!” Dozens of small holes appeared around the tip of the olive. Before the shark could react, over thirty high-powered torpedoes, like flying demons, rushed out and slammed into its gills.
“Boom!!!”
A dull explosion, accompanied by a burst of bubbles, sent the Sunset Mech flying backward. It tumbled helplessly. By the time its comrades rescued it, little of it was intact. Similarly, the shark it had attacked was in a pitiful state as well.
The bubbles dissipated quickly, and only then did everyone realize in shock that there was no trace of the shark left at all. All that could be seen was a sea of blood-red water filled with floating internal organs and chunks of flesh. The shark had been completely shattered into pieces by over thirty torpedoes!!
“Great!!!” Cheers erupted throughout the cabin. Everyone applauded the tenacity of the Blood Wolf warrior just now.
There were many such scenes. Within just fifteen minutes, the battlefield had become extremely brutal. Red blood mist had spread for dozens of kilometers, even enveloping the fierce winds. Visibility for everyone dropped drastically, forcing them to turn on the holographic scanning system to observe the battle through the scanned images.
As expected, the Blood Wolf warriors truly lived up to their reputation as the strongest individual combat forces in Death Star and even among humans. The 372 Sunset fighters more than lived up to their fearsome reputation, inspiring ambition in all who watched. They darted around at high speeds or circled strategically, clashing fiercely with their opponents. Unfazed by enemies far larger than themselves, they managed to tear dozens of sharks to pieces in just fifteen minutes! The sight of those massive electric axes in action was enough to make even the bravest hold their breath.
Behind these valiant warriors, the Blood Moon mechs also shone brightly. Perhaps due to the underwater combat, they made up only one-third of the mechs in this attack—around a hundred in number—and they weren’t in the front lines, so few people noticed them. Yet, even with this small number, their combat achievements were no less than those of the Sunset fighters!!
That was because their shooting was incredibly precise.
On Death Star, anyone with rich combat experience and a fearless spirit among the Blood Wolf warriors could generally pilot a Sunset fighter. However, piloting a Blood Moon mech was much more difficult.
After all, as a mech that combined all advantages in shooting, the Blood Moon mech was not only capable of fire suppression but also excelled in sniper warfare among the strongest fighters. Being an expert in machine guns, rifles, and sniper weapons at the same time—such talents existed in only a handful across entire Death Star. Therefore, to pilot a Blood Moon mech, no matter who it was, even the most loyal warrior, had to undergo rigorous training and prove proficiency in more than three types of firearms.
Many people could struggle their entire lives to master just one type of firearm, yet the Blood Moon mech required proficiency in at least three—making it extremely demanding. As a result, to this day, the number of warriors who could pilot Blood Moon mechs on Death Star was only about three thousand. Compared to the tens of thousands of Blood Wolf warriors, this was utterly negligible.
But precisely because of this, the performance of the Blood Moon mechs in every battle left everyone speechless. The same is true now. With less than a hundred Blood Moon mechs, they managed to kill as many as thirty sharks using sniper tactics. In their hands, heavy sniper guns were far more effective than ship cannons. Especially their pinpoint attacks—often a single burst would pierce a shark’s skull outright. Pools of blood bloomed like flowers in the sea. Such battles could no longer be called battles; they were outright massacres. The dolphins, who had been hiding behind Li Feng, couldn’t hide their terror at this sight. Their gaze toward the Blood Wolf warriors was like looking at a group of demons. Of course, Hei Fa never doubted the strength of his subordinates. But victory also came at a cost. As their first official underwater battle, although both the Blood Moon and the Setting Sun had been equipped with the latest underwater combat components, they still suffered losses. The sharks’ ferocious bites were beyond what the mechs’ armor could withstand. Once bitten, there was little choice but to amputate a limb. So, after just fifteen minutes, when the last shark was killed by a bullet from the Blood Moon, everyone was shocked to find that as many as five Blood Wolf warriors had been torn to pieces in this battle. Five warriors—five whole warriors!! When it was time to clean up the battlefield, almost everyone could hardly suppress their tremors. Accustomed to the Blood Wolves’ relentless advance and extremely low casualty rates, no one expected them to pay such a heavy price today. After all, with the Blood Wolves’ current strength, even facing ten Moor giant ships, the cost would likely not be this high. Hei Fa always adhered to a policy of maintaining a highly skilled force. Thus, every warrior was an invaluable asset to Death Star. Every year, an astronomical amount of resources were invested in them. And because of this, Hei Fa’s Death Star had never disappointed in local battles! But today, facing just a hundred or so savage shark creatures, the Blood Wolves lost as many as five warriors. This result was simply a nightmare. Staring at the chaotic battlefield, with the blood-red seawater still churning, the entire cabin fell silent. After a long while, Hei Fa sighed. “Go check on our captives. I hope those damned guys are worth my warriors’ lives. Otherwise…” Hei Fa didn’t continue, but everyone saw the cold glint suddenly appearing in the corners of his eyes.
