Chapter 36: The Impossible Task – Section 4
The dark warship moved at such speed that the man, despite seeing it, had no time to react. Almost the moment he spotted the warship, it plunged onto his ship with overwhelming force.
“Boom!”
Another deafening roar!! Followed by a massive shockwave. An unstoppable wave of force erupted from where the two ships collided, ravaging every accessible area. Corridors, cabins, and even soldiers in motion were all shaken violently by the shockwave. The man was also thrown hard by it and crashed into the wall.
Everything went dark before his eyes; the once-proud man knew nothing anymore.
If someone were watching from ten thousand meters above at that moment, they would see the tragic scene of the massive warship. Its huge, angular hull was pierced deep by a smaller dark ship. The bow of the dark ship was completely hidden. At the point of contact, countless fragments flew out at lightning speed. Those silver-white flashes resembled flowers blooming in the night sky.
The hull of the dark ship rippled like fish scales, revealing rows of neat compartments below. Visibly, dark mechs poured out of these compartments. They made no sound, no flashy movements. Like silent worker bees, they quickly climbed onto the nearby enemy ship. The lights from high-energy cutting guns flashed rapidly, and soon dozens of circular holes appeared on the large U.S. assault ship. Then, those mechs slipped inside silently, like ghosts.
On the bridge of the dark warship, a thin young man stood with his hands behind his back, coldly observing the chaos below. An ugly scar ran down from his temple, adding to his fierce appearance. His expression remained calm, revealing nothing of his thoughts. Only when he saw the dark mechs successfully invade the enemy ship did his eyebrows twitch slightly.
He turned and disappeared from the bridge…
The dark mechs moved swiftly. They were like a storm, ravaging the enemy ship. The U.S. crew members, who had just crossed the atmosphere, never expected an attack here and were clearly unprepared. Out of thousands of mechs on the ship, less than a hundred were still operational; the rest were stored in warehouses.
Yet even so, these American soldiers still demonstrate combat skills befitting their status. Speaking of this, we must mention the cost of training soldiers. On Earth, as times have progressed, soldiers have been classified into different tiers, each with its own designated role. For example, ordinary assault soldiers are only responsible for charging and suppressing the enemy on the battlefield, so their training costs are the lowest. Medical soldiers require higher technical skills, resulting in slightly higher training costs. Of course, among all military branches, special forces have the highest training costs. The United States is the country on Earth that places the greatest emphasis on soldier training, investing the most in training for every tier—undoubtedly number one! This is simply because the U.S. is extremely wealthy, with its GDP accounting for over half of the world’s total. Moreover, despite its wealth, the U.S. has a relatively small population, making human life extremely valuable. There was even a joking saying that the life of one American citizen is worth at least 300 ordinary Chinese citizens—China would still get change! For this reason, American soldiers, both in terms of training and equipment, are the best in the world. In other words, each of them has top-tier status. However, today, this once-prideful status has become a joke. The Dark Mechs are simply too powerful. Not only are they highly coordinated, but their individual combat skills are also exceptional. From the moment they entered the warship, these Dark Mechs never stopped moving. They flew at high speeds through narrow corridors, miraculously avoiding every obstacle. Often, American soldiers could pass through places they thought were impossible to navigate by simply moving slightly, demonstrating skills that defied all common sense! They even witnessed the Dark Mechs squeezing through gaps only half their size! And this was just the beginning. It was only after the first exchange of fire that American soldiers truly realized the strength of these Dark Mechs. It was a narrow corridor leading to the warship’s engine room, where American soldiers had set up multiple barriers. They knew this was a target that infiltrators must seize, so an astonishing number of 300 soldiers were stationed there. The narrow passage was almost completely packed. Behind them, another 20 fully armed, heavy-firepower Mechs were ready to go.
The passage was less than ten meters wide. The American soldiers believed that as long as those dark mechs appeared, their nearly absolute firepower would instantly tear them to pieces. Some American soldiers had even seen the flames from the mechs being destroyed.
However, they never expected it to be an illusion—nothing more than that.
The dark mechs did appear, just two of them. They appeared in front of the American soldiers, one in front and one behind, at a slight angle. Seeing the tightly sealed checkpoint ahead, neither mech showed any surprise, as if they had known all along. Right under everyone’s eyes, the mech behind suddenly raised its weapon and fired!!
It was a rocket launcher, four meters long from front to back and as thick as a barrel. The target of the fire was the broad back of its companion in front!
“Boom!!” The scorching jet propelled forward like a storm through the passage. None of the American soldiers expected such a move and were stunned. They watched in horror as a dark silhouette, driven by the intense jet, flew across hundreds of meters and appeared right in front of them. Despite its back being completely destroyed by the rocket launcher, with even its engine nozzles gone, it didn’t care at all. Because it had successfully achieved its purpose of launching a surprise attack.
Over hundreds of meters, if moving normally—even at the mechs’ maximum speed—there would have been enough time for the American soldiers to fire. Even if those dark mechs were reincarnations of gods, they would still be torn to shreds.
But now, the situation was completely different. Although the rocket launcher of the mech behind caused significant damage, it also gave the mech in front a powerful thrust, allowing it to rush into the checkpoint before the American soldiers could react. Without hesitation, a huge two-handed sword appeared in its hands as if out of nowhere, followed by a powerful sweeping strike!!
It swept through thousands of enemies!!!
This move, born in China thousands of years ago, was incredibly simple. But when used by this dark mech, its effect was terrifying. The mech’s specialized two-handed sword alone had an astonishing six-meter-long blade. With just one swing, almost no one in the passage survived!! Instantly, blood gushed out like a waterfall, coloring the entire corridor red. Nearly a hundred American soldiers, along with the mech behind them, were all cut in two by that single strike!!
It wasn’t until then that the supporting fire from the dark mech behind arrived.
He had already switched to a heavy machine gun that required both hands to operate! “Bang bang bang bang…” The intense barrage of machine gun bullets was like a storm, coupled with the close proximity of the combat mechs. The American soldiers finally understood what it meant to be utterly helpless. Of course, they tried to resist, but those two black mechs didn’t give them any chance at all. From their first appearance to the start of the attack, it took less than three seconds. In such a short time, the American soldiers could only raise their guns and fire fewer than ten shots. By the time those black combat mechs invaded, they couldn’t even make that effort. The six-meter-long sword was like an invitation from death, forcing them all to gasp for breath. Cries of pain, blood, flying limbs, shattered mech fragments, and blazing flames created a path of death. Here, the American soldiers used their own blood to leave marks on those black mechs. In just thirty seconds, all the American soldiers left behind were wiped out. The air became thick and foul-smelling. Aside from those two black silhouettes, no one else remained standing. “Creak!” The black mech in front shook slightly, finally letting out a groan of exhaustion. Its two severely damaged knees emitted a piercing wail before it collapsed like a mountain toppling. Having first suffered attacks from its comrades and then endured a hail of bullets to kill hundreds of enemies, the mech was covered in countless wounds. It could no longer hold on. Yet even so, its mission was complete. Inside the mech’s control room, a blood-soaked, burly man slowly closed his eyes. Blood flowed steadily from his mouth and nose, like a winding stream. Eventually, his breathing stopped. The black mech he piloted knelt on the ground, like a scarred statue. The two-handed sword that terrified all the American soldiers lay beside it, its blade covered in numerous cuts and still dripping with fresh blood. In silence, the black mech behind it slowly walked over but didn’t stop to look. It simply picked up the sword as it passed and threw it into its own backpack. At the same time, an invisible frequency began to spread through the air. “Head: Engine room attacked. No survivors. Five minutes needed to install the explosive device. Soldier Number 16 killed. Task complete.”
“Five minutes is too long. I can only give you three. If you can make it back, remember to bring back number sixteen. If not… pretend I never said anything.”
“Understood. Good luck, boss.”
“You too. Number fifteen.”
Whoosh… the signal disappeared…
