Chapter 31: The Devil’s Gift – Section 1
A New Magic Machine?
Hei Ba’s eyes lit up, and the gloom in his heart vanished instantly.
If there was anything he cared about most at the moment, it was undoubtedly what Monkey had just mentioned.
Because he needed to strengthen his power desperately. After witnessing the Moors’ combat readiness, he had lost faith in the traditional warships and cannons used in past battles. Thus, his interest in this new type of weapon was greater than ever before—comparable even to that of the Light and Dark Stones!
“Let’s go and take a look at your so-called magic machine,” Hei Ba said excitedly, standing up and addressing the equally eager Monkey.
Death Star’s environment remained beautiful. As Hei Ba and Monkey walked along, they encountered many alien creatures. Perhaps due to its reputation, there were increasingly more aliens on Death Star lately. Coupled with Sulei, who was in charge of internal affairs and had a kind heart, several more residency applications were approved during Hei Ba’s absence. As a result, Death Star had truly become a paradise for aliens, filled with all sorts of strange creatures—ranging from giants dozens of meters tall to tiny, imperceptible cells. There were so many that space for survival was starting to become scarce.
But this was no longer a major problem. Sulei had already developed two other natural planets and begun the process of settlement. The five natural planets seized by Hei Ba had become hot topics in the current 31-star region. The unique plants and favorable ecosystems on those planets attracted all the wandering aliens, just like Death Star.
Of course, settling on such beautiful planets and gaining the protection of the Blood Wolf faction came at a high cost. Without special resources or abilities, ordinary aliens couldn’t even dream of it. After all, Hei Ba needed help, not to run a charity. Fortunately, aliens weren’t opposed to this.
Every alien had something valuable to offer. In their eyes, Hei Ba’s rules were less like restrictions and more like tickets handed right to them—a wonderful ticket leading to paradise.
Strolling along the winding paths of Death Star, Black Hair and Monkey did not enter the city. Instead, they simply enjoyed the stunning scenery of Death Star as if taking a walk. It was somewhat pitiful. Although Black Hair was the nominal owner of Death Star, he had spent less time there than most of the alien residents. The lush greenery and fresh air were a luxurious treat for him. Along the way, he took deep breaths time and again, which calmed his mind and restored the brightness to his eyes.
“Head, are you okay?” Monkey, who had been walking silently beside him, suddenly spoke up, catching Black Hair off guard. But he quickly understood what Monkey meant and nodded with a smile. “I’m fine.” “That’s good.” Monkey had already noticed Black Hair’s abnormal state, and now that he had returned to normal, he was genuinely happy for him. A sunny smile appeared on his thin face as he pointed toward the canyon whose outlines could be seen in the distance. “Let’s go over there. Head, check out the gift I prepared for you.” “Okay! As usual, the loser has to do five thousand push-ups,” Black Hair said with a chuckle. His figure suddenly surged forward, turning into a streak of black light that moved at incredible speed. The sudden shift from stillness to motion was so drastic that anyone who saw it would think they were seeing things.
But Monkey, who suggested this, wasn’t to be underestimated either. They had played this game frequently long ago, and he knew Black Hair’s habits well. So when Black Hair suddenly sped up, Monkey laughed loudly in response, pushed off the ground, and also turned into a streak of black light that rushed forward. “Haha, Head, you still like to cheat!” Amidst his laughter, Monkey quickly caught up to Black Hair. The two black figures rushed forward together toward the increasingly distinct canyon.
Both of them were exceptionally strong. It took them less than five minutes to reach the huge canyon. Black Hair and Monkey remained completely dry, not even breaking into a sweat. But Black Hair deliberately fell behind by half a step, meaning he would inevitably have to do those five thousand push-ups.
Thus, the workers in the canyon were stunned as they witnessed a scene they would never forget. Their top leader, Black Hair, was obediently doing push-ups on the ground, while his subordinate, Monkey, stood by laughing wildly. Of course, there was also some teasing.
Jokes aside, Kurokami remained responsible for his words. He only stood up after completing five thousand push-ups seriously. He casually brushed off non-existent dust from his clothes and rolled his eyes at the monkey who was still teasing him.
“Enough, you brat. Let’s get down to business. Where is what you gave me?”
“Where? Hehe, of course it’s right here!” The monkey laughed uproariously, stretching out a finger with bent joints, pointing straight downward.
Downward?? Downward!!
A thousand meters deep in the canyon, there was a vast cave carved out, stretching as far as the eye could see.
It was hard to imagine such a cave being man-made. Yet it was right before their eyes—after Kurokami and the monkey entered the cave through a special passage. What appeared first was rows of neat, massive silhouettes. Some held giant shields, some were equipped with long swords, and others were covered in various firearms. Weren’t those the elite mechs they currently used?
The cave was brightly lit, as if it were daytime. Kurokami saw countless figures climbing up and down these mechs, busy nonstop. Sparks and electricity constantly flew from their hands. The air was filled with a distinctive burning smell.
The person in charge of the cave was a young man with short hair. Kurokami recognized him—he was one of the criminals he had rescued from Black Prison. He was said to be a madman who loved machinery and tried to destroy the local governor’s mansion using his own mechs. Though his crime was serious, he was indeed highly capable. His file clearly recorded that he had single-handedly defeated the governor’s 200-strong private guard with his mechs! If not for a small spaceship hidden beneath the governor’s mansion, he might have succeeded!
After all, those private guards were well-equipped and highly trained. Yet this young man, clearly not a combat expert, could achieve such things, which showed just how advanced his mechs were. For this reason, in Kurokami’s field, this young man had always been a key figure in mech research.
But Kurokami wasn’t here to discuss life with this young man. In fact, he couldn’t even remember his name. As for whether this young man had any hobbies or planned to build another mech to destroy the tower on Death Star where he lived, it had nothing to do with him at all.
What he wanted was the Demon Mech.
So soon, led by the young man, they passed through the bustling assembly site and entered another descending elevator. After repeating this process three times, they arrived at a heavily sealed door. On either side of the door stood fully armed elite mech guards. Their massive size and cold armor made everyone who saw them feel dread.
The young man carefully took out a card and swiped it at the door, then allowed a beam of light to cover his entire body. His expression was extremely serious; he was so focused throughout the process as if fearing the slightest mistake.
It wasn’t that he was overreacting—it was simply because he knew well that this place was different from the caves outside. Though it seemed simple with only two guards, it was actually the most heavily defended area on Death Star.
This was where all of Death Star’s technological achievements lay. The entire cave was also guarded by the nuclei of the Wandering Clan. This seemingly spacious cave was actually within the cellular tissue of the Wandering Clan. Should anything go wrong, no matter how capable the offender was, even if they were made of steel, they would be instantly melted away by the corrosive liquid that gushed forth.
In other words, entering here meant entrusting one’s life to the nuclei of the Wandering Clan. Who wouldn’t be nervous and serious in such a dangerous situation?
The young man couldn’t help but feel that way. So he was nervous and cautious. He truly feared the Wandering Clan, who were regarded as the guardians of Death Star.
Fortunately, it didn’t take him long to open such a door. Soon, Hei Fa saw what was behind it.
It was a huge cave similar to one just outside the canyon. But unlike before, there weren’t as many massive elite mechs in this cave. In the vast space, only two dark figures stood quietly. There was no light in the cave, so those two huge dark figures couldn’t be seen clearly. Yet their vague shapes and the faint red lights from their heads, combined with the pitch-black cave, made anyone who saw them for the first time think of a legendary creature—a demon.
“Hehe, welcome, boss. This is my gift for you—the standard mech for the next generation of Blood Wolves. It’s the first time in the entire universe that biological technology, magic technology, and mechanical technology have been fully integrated to create the most powerful magic mechs!!”
The monkey laughed loudly and suddenly turned on the lights in the room…
“Blood Moon and Setting Sun!!”
