Chapter 26: Civil Unrest, Section 1
The knocking was soft, yet just loud enough for those in the room to hear. Hei Fa’s expression changed instantly, his hand freezing mid-air.
“Knock, knock, knock…” The sound echoed sharply in the silent room. Everyone stopped talking and turned their gaze toward Hei Fa.
The knocking ceased…
Suddenly… “Bang!”
With a loud explosion, the door burst open as if bombarded. The shattered pieces blocked most of their view. Almost at the same time, a barrage of intense “thud” sounds filled the air. Countless dazzling beams of energy filled the space before them like a storm. Through these blinding lights, they could even see the grotesque faces outside.
Yet the attackers never expected that after the door shattered, what met them wasn’t a group of panicked faces, but…
a massive table covering seven or eight square meters.
This table was the main piece in the living room, carved entirely from luxurious yellow jade. Both its material and craftsmanship were exquisitely fine. But even its designer never imagined that, in a sense, it also served as an ideal cover. No matter how intense the energy beams, they couldn’t penetrate such a thick layer of jade in a short time—especially since it weighed nearly two tons.
“Boom!”
The table crashed down like a meteor, slamming into the doorway. Its huge size immediately filled the torn gap, creating a dent in the wall as it was embedded there. Before the energy beams could take effect, everything was blocked. A burly Blood Wolf Pirate slapped his hand triumphantly, revealing a ferocious smile.
At the same time, a figure flashed past. Blood Pupil appeared behind the table, downed the red wine in his left hand in one gulp, and without hesitation, swung his right hand at the table.
“Bang!!” Stone chips flew everywhere. Under everyone’s eyes, Blood Pupil’s right hand, like an indestructible sledgehammer, pierced through the table’s surface. With a twist and pull, blood gushed forth as a head was ripped out. In his strong hands, the head was severely distorted, and a large amount of blood stained half the table red.
Through the wall, they could clearly hear shrill screams coming from the hallway outside.
The screams soon turned into agonized cries.
No one knew when it happened. All the Blood Wolf Pirates in the room stood up at once, their coats open to reveal metal tubes neatly arranged at their waists, looking like bullets. One pirate casually pulled out one and gave it a slight squeeze. With a soft “click,” both ends of the metal tube suddenly expanded, turning it into a three-meter-long spear! The tip of the spear emitted a strange blue glow—clearly a signature of high-frequency oscillation!
With a continuous “whooshing” sound, in the next moment, the spear turned into lightning, covering the entire wall ahead. Along with a hissing sound like beans being scooped, countless holes the size of cups appeared on the snow-white wall. Countless streams of bright red blood sprayed out from these holes like arrows.
The spear attack lasted only fifteen seconds. There was no sound left in the entire corridor. In the dead silence, only the Blood Wolf Pirates’ triumphant laughter could be heard.
Ambushes were these guys’ forte. Who would have thought that as soon as they arrived here, some fools would try to show off their skills—using the most basic method of knocking on the door to ask for directions. Absolute idiots. But this also relaxed the pirates’ tense nerves, lifting their mood significantly.
These burly men were all among those who first followed the black-haired veteran. Each of them had a bloody history—none of them were good people. Even before following the black-haired man, they had already been troublemakers in the pirate lair, Hell Planet.
In the silence, the burly pirate who had just thrown away the jade table walked to the door with a cruel smile. With one hand, he pushed the two-ton jade table outside. When the table crashed to the ground, everyone felt the floor shake.
Before them unfolded a hellish scene.
About thirty creatures in black clothes with four arms wandered randomly in the corridor. Each held two gun-like devices. Perhaps due to the suddenness of the attack, their faces still showed twisted expressions of terror. Their bodies were riddled with holes, and blood flowed freely, coloring the entire corridor red. Some shiny metal tubes lay scattered on the ground, emitting a cold glint.
The inn’s guards arrived quickly. But upon seeing this hellish scene, their eyes widened in shock, their faces filled with disbelief. One of them, who seemed to be the captain, carefully inspected the scene before stepping into the room, only to be suddenly grabbed by a short figure jumping out from behind, followed by a torrent of curses.
“Wish you were sent to block a cannon mouth! You damned swine!! How do you handle security? Isn’t Longmen Inn supposed to be the safest place? Damn it, what’s going on with these bodies on the ground? Why did this happen right after we had a minor argument with those Biters!! You need to give my guests an explanation, or I’ll complain about you!! Go die as fodder!!”
The torrent of insults made the head guard sweat profusely, his face turning red with anger. Yet his professional training forced him to calm down. He apologized repeatedly and then politely suggested that he should talk to Black Hair and the others to understand what had happened.
But before he could finish speaking, Xiao Nuobi jumped up like a cat with its tail stepped on.
“No!!”
“Mr. Baker is our most honored guest. How dare you disturb him? Not only you, but even the person in charge of your inn must get permission first. This conflict was clearly started by those damned Biters. Can’t you see these corpses on the ground? I don’t need to tell you what race they are!”
“They’re Sak dwarf, a subrace of the Biter,” the head guard replied honestly.
“Then why are you still standing here?! Hurry up and arrest those damned Biters! Oh, Goddess above, how can Longmen Inn have an idiotic guard like you? This is an insult to this great place. Clean this place up right now, immediately!!”
“Yes, sir.” The head guard was utterly shattered by Xiao Nuobi’s scolding. Sweat streamed down his face. Realizing his demands wouldn’t be met, he could only reluctantly order his subordinates to clean up the scene. As they cleaned, his eyes kept darting around.
The manner of death of those corpses was truly shocking. With his extensive experience, he could easily reconstruct what had happened. The only thing he couldn’t figure out was what weapon the Pole guests used to kill them. Judging from the cup-sized holes in the walls, it seemed to be a highly destructive firearm. But in reality, he didn’t see them carrying any such weapon.
Since when had the Poles become so skilled in combat? The head guard was completely confused, his face growing paler by the moment.
Meanwhile, Xiao Nuobi rushed over to Black Hair and began apologizing nonstop.
“Mr. Baker, I’m sorry for scaring you. It was our failure to ensure proper security. I’ve already scolded them. Hehe, I hope you don’t mind. By the way, are your subordinates unharmed?”
“No.” The black-haired man smiled and patted Little Norby’s shoulder. “You’re quite fast—you came right away after it happened.”
“Of course. I live right below you, and there are special rooms prepared for those who handle such receptions. So I came as soon as it happened. Without a doubt, your subordinates are truly impressive. They must have experienced battles, right?” Little Norby replied respectfully, though a cold glint flashed in the corners of his eyes.
The black-haired man sensed this. He exchanged a glance with Blood-Pupils and saw the sneer in each other’s eyes. What else could that seemingly casual question from Little Norby be if not a test?
The Bor tribe were natural merchants, but no one among them was known for fighting. It seemed their group had already caught the attention of certain people. The black-haired man pondered for a moment, narrowing his eyes slightly. Well then, he might as well act decisively. Excessive pretense would only expose him. After all, he hadn’t come here intending to stay quiet and obedient. A bold and powerful image might be more suitable.
If the Bor tribe had no competent warriors, then let it become history today…
“Oh, Norby, maybe I didn’t explain myself clearly. Actually, I’m an armed merchant. Perhaps it’s because my goods are all valuable items. That’s why I pay close attention to security. Don’t think just because these guards are my kin, their combat skills are even comparable to those of the Mammoth tribe. So this incident isn’t a big deal. You don’t need to worry. Have you arranged everything for the evening banquet?”
“Everything is as you wish, esteemed Mr. Beck,” Little Norby replied, feeling a chill in his heart as he quickly put on a respectful expression. “Miss Veli is very happy to hear that you’ll bring her an extremely precious black diamond. She said she wants to thank you personally. I think she still doesn’t know you’re a powerful armed merchant; otherwise, she’d be even more interested in you.”
“Oh? Then I must talk to Miss Veli even more.” The black-haired man nodded, offering a very gentlemanly smile. “It would be a great fortune to win the favor of the beautiful Miss Veli. I’m even more looking forward to tonight’s banquet…”
“Yes, we’re all very much looking forward to it,” Little Norby replied respectfully, though a sly smile suddenly appeared in the corners of his eyes.
