Volume 4: The Revelation Revealed – Chapter 534: The Wind-Seeking Beast
Yin Yang glanced at Wukong and transmitted a message, “Be careful.”
Wukong replied, “If Tathagata tries any tricks, you must stop him from entering the earth.”
Yin Yang nodded and shouted, “If anything goes wrong, I’ll destroy the Great Sun’s body!”
Tathagata remained expressionless, lost in thought.
Wukong and the others bowed and said, “Please take care of this!” Then, under everyone’s watchful eyes, they vanished into the night.
Tathagata murmured, “Lingming, Lingming… When can I see you again?”
Yin Yang replied coldly, “Fix the array outside the heavens, and perhaps you’ll have a chance.”
Ignoring Yin Yang, Tathagata said to Yuan Shi and Feng Tong, “You won’t be able to see the array outside the heavens. Everything starts with the array on the Pillar That Supports the Heavens…”
The three of them focused entirely on the array, while Yin Yang and the Great Sun Tathagata stood outside—one with closed eyes, the other lost in thought, neither looking at the other.
Wukong returned to Flower-Fruit Mountain and sat atop the peak for two days and nights. On the morning of the third day, he leaped down and headed toward the Peach Garden.
During those two days and nights, Wukong’s mind was clear; it was rare for him to think of nothing. By day, he watched the monkeys play, the plants grow, and the sun set in the west; at night, he observed fireflies flying, the waves of the Eastern Sea, and the changes in the stars and moon.
Having been in this world for a thousand years, this was the first time he had time to truly appreciate it. Without all these responsibilities, life would be so much simpler and better. But someone had to take care of things—whether in a family or a nation. There were always those willing to shoulder responsibilities. Their actions might go unnoticed, but they were extremely important. Without them, the rise and fall of nations and dynasties might change drastically. What he had to do was a hundred times more important than what anyone else did. Could there be anything more crucial than the fate of the world?
Thinking of this, Wukong felt a surge of passion. Doing what he believed to be the most meaningful thing was its own greatest motivation.
When he arrived under the Peach Tree, he saw Laozi already standing there, looking up. Wukong landed beside him and asked, “Laozi, what are you waiting for?”
Laozi replied, “Are you pretending to be clueless? Didn’t you say the Peach Patriarch’s peaches would be ripe today?”
Wukong glanced around and murmured, “Huh? That’s strange. How are they still unripe?”
Laozi snorted, “Unripe? The flowers haven’t even bloomed yet!”
Without responding, Wukong leaped onto the Peach Patriarch’s tree, found a thick branch, and fell asleep. Laozi called out, “The tree won’t let you grow if it presses down on you! Come down quickly!”
Wukong said, “I don’t care if it grows or not. If it doesn’t bear peaches today, I’ll uproot it by the roots!”
Laojun was stunned. Seeing Wukong’s cunning gaze, he pointed at him and turned to leave.
Lying in the tree, Wukong wasn’t idle. He thought that since Pangu’s peach ancestor had produced peaches today, there couldn’t be any mistake. But upon concentrating, he felt no trace of the essence of creation flowing in. Without that essence, how could peaches be formed?
At noon, Laojun came again. Seeing that Wukong’s posture hadn’t changed, he laughed and said, “If we had made a bet back then, wouldn’t you have lost?”
Before Wukong could answer, he suddenly felt the tree tremble slightly. Delighted, he thought to himself, “It’s here.”
Standing under the tree, Laojun also sensed something. Then, the peach ancestor seemed to straighten its trunk, and its branches and leaves became much taller than before. Six pinkish-white, crystal-clear buds appeared on some of the side branches.
Those six buds instantly bloomed into six full, splendid flowers. A gentle breeze blew, causing the petals to fall, and six green immortal peaches grew.
The immortal peaches continued to grow as the wind blew. In just the time it took to drink tea, they developed a faint red hue.
Laojun was astonished. He knew that the peach tree bore fruit only once every ten thousand years. By his estimate, it would take thousands of years before this tree would flower. So what was happening today? Could it be that the wise divine ape had reached a level where he could make his wishes come true? Impossible—where in the world could such a power exist?
Wukong laughed and said, “Laojun, let’s see if you’ve lost or I’ve lost.”
Laojun hurriedly said, “There was no bet to begin with!”
Seeing that the peaches were ripe in an instant, Wukong didn’t hesitate. He opened his mouth and sucked a peach into his mouth.
A stream of pure creative essence flowed into his dantian and merged into the Taiji diagram, then disappeared without a sound. Wukong was slightly puzzled—why was there no reaction?
If one didn’t work, he’d just eat another! Another peach went into his mouth, with the same result.
Wukong thought for a while. He couldn’t count exactly how many peaches he had eaten. Laojun had given him some, Ran Deng had given him some, and Xuan Nu had given him two as well. But the key question was—how many peaches had he eaten on that peach tree when he created the world? Did the ones he ate before reincarnation count?
Wukong picked the third peach and swallowed it. This time, the creative essence that entered his dantian finally caused a change.
On the Taiji diagram, the white and black dots in the middle of the black and white fish suddenly leaped at the same time. Wukong observed quietly and suddenly understood everything! No wonder Pangu said he needed to eat twelve peach blossoms—turns out that consuming those twelve peach blossoms would lead to such a scenario. You might wonder why—Wukong realized that at this moment, there was no difference between the positive and negative aspects of creation, and his control over the negative forces had reached its peak!
With this ability, even after leaving heaven, he would remain in a state of supreme wisdom within that realm of negative forces. With his current cultivation level, he could now use all thirty-six transformations of Tian Gang. Combined with his control over negative forces, his self-protection abilities after leaving heaven would surely increase greatly!
Trying to use the power of negative forces again, Wukong discovered that he no longer needed the Heaven Fate Staff to draw in the negative forces scattered throughout the universe. It seemed that the nine peach blossoms he had eaten earlier, plus these three today, made up the total of twelve.
Wukong jumped down from the sky. Laojun was delighted and asked, “Why not eat any more?”
Wukong looked at Laojun and smiled, “I won’t eat any more. I’ll leave three for you to make pills.”
Laojun’s eyebrows and eyes squished together with joy, but his expression quickly changed as he said, “Hmph, don’t try to trick me!”
Wukong smiled and said, “Laojun, I have a request of yours.”
“What is it? I’m not going!” Laojun replied.
Wukong said, “If you go, maybe there will really be one or two peach blossoms left. But if you don’t go… hehe, then I’ll pick them now!”
Laojun quickly grabbed Wukong and asked, “Tell me quickly, what is it?”
Wukong said, “Go and bring the Intelligent Divine Monkey here. He’s just a little short of reaching the Heavenly Saint realm. Probably just one peach blossom will help him overcome this obstacle. If he eats one, he’ll pass, and the two left will be yours. If he eats two to pass, I’ll leave one for you. What if he eats three…?”
Laojun hurriedly said, “At most two. I’m sure I can help him pass!”
Wukong laughed heartily. Of course he knew what Laojun was thinking. For the sake of these peach blossoms, Laojun would likely not be able to keep many of the elixirs needed for his advancement. How many elixirs were required to reach the Heavenly Saint realm? Wukong found it hard to imagine—Laojun would probably suffer losses this time.
Wukong said, “Thank you, Laojun. I’m off then!”
Laojun was stunned. “You’re leaving after eating the peach blossoms? Where are you going?”
Wukong pointed upward and said, “To heaven.”
“To heaven?” Seeing Wukong’s figure soar straight into the sky, Laojun murmured, “He’s leaving already?” Remembering Wukong’s request, he knew he couldn’t delay matters related to the Divine Monkey. So he went to Qi Tian Ling to find the Intelligent Divine Monkey.
Wukong intended to leave heaven. Instead of heading to the River of Heaven, he chose to ascend directly, hoping to take another look at those wind beasts. If he left, he feared he might never get a chance to return. These wind beasts remained motionless here, which was indeed strange. Where did they come from, and why did they just ride the wind without moving? It was likely they were closely related to those from beyond heaven.
By now, Wukong was well-accustomed to such journeys. The strong winds at the sky’s apex were nothing more than a gentle breeze to him. With a few quick transformations, he reached the top of heaven. He chose a hole at random to enter, and the nearest creature there was a Kui ox.
When the Kui ox saw Wukong, its eyes widened in shock, then it showed an incredible expression, followed by a hint of fear in its gaze. This fear wasn’t mere terror but rather the timidity and unease of a weaker being facing a stronger one.
Wukong ignored it and dashed off to search for that giant dragon—Zhu Yin—in this realm. According to the Kunpeng, although there were many wind beasts here, only Zhu Yin had any real strength. Wukong understood the principle of capturing the leader first to subdue the rest. Though he wasn’t there to fight, those in high positions naturally knew more.
Zhu Yin was the largest of all. It took Wukong only a moment to find him. Standing in front of Zhu Yin, Wukong realized that this monstrous creature was actually just at the threshold between yin and yang, just one step away from chaos.
When Zhu Yin saw Wukong, his eyes, which had been half-closed, suddenly opened wide in surprise. He said, “You—where did you come from? Are you from above—”
Wukong shook his head and pointed downward. “Not above. I came from below.”
Zhu Yin shook his head. “That’s impossible!”
Wukong replied coldly, “Do I need to lie to you?”
Zhu Yin stared at the tiny monkey, which was not even as big as one of his front teeth, feeling extremely shocked. From below? Could there really be someone so powerful in this world? He remembered a giant bird that had once shocked him, but that bird was only slightly stronger than him. Now, this monkey was beyond his comprehension!
A liar! That person had said that there would never be a third person in this world stronger than him. Pangu was one, that giant bird was the second, and now this one… was even stronger than Pangu!
