Volume 4: The Revelation Revealed – Chapter 483: Reversing Time
Yin Yang glanced at the Five Divine Apes and said with slight sadness, “They can only reach the peak of Heavenly Saint.”
Wukong nodded, feeling somewhat disappointed for some reason. Reaching the peak of Heavenly Saint was already an unattainable goal in this world; even Xuan Nu and Bodhisattva Ni Li probably couldn’t achieve it. Yet, Wukong still felt it was a pity that the Creative Divine Apes couldn’t progress together.
Perhaps the Five Elements Divine Apes were created just for this world. And as for Yin Yang—where exactly was the realm of Yin and Yang he spoke of?
Wukong thought for a moment and asked anxiously, “So… what about me?”
Yin Yang laughed heartily. “You?”
“What’s so funny?” Wukong asked.
“I can’t even reach the realm of Chaos, how could I see through you?” Yin Yang replied.
Wukong was completely confused, but Yin Yang clearly didn’t want to elaborate. He waved his hand, drawing seven circles—one on the ground and six in the air. Strangely, the distances between these seven circles were exactly the same, with no difference at all.
The Seven Divine Apes didn’t need to ask to know which circle they should sit in. Naturally, the top one belonged to Wukong.
Yin Yang sat in the circle on the ground, and the other five Divine Apes also took their seats. Suddenly, Wukong remembered something and asked Yin Yang, “How long will this seclusion last?”
Yin Yang replied without hesitation, “Just two or three hundred years.”
Wukong said, “I still have something to do. Wait a moment.” Then he took out the Peach of Eternity, the Heaven-Confusing Flag, and the Chaos Yellow Flag that Xuan Nu had given him, and threw them to Yin Yang, saying, “The Peach of Eternity can also aid in cultivation for a while. You surely recognize those two treasures.”
Upon seeing the Heaven-Confusing Flag and the Chaos Yellow Flag, Yin Yang’s eyes grew distant. After stroking them for a long time, his gaze finally cleared, and he instinctively took possession of the two treasures.
Wukong asked, “How is it?”
Yin Yang replied, “It’s extremely beneficial.”
Wukong was puzzled again. Why say that instead of “very good”? Beneficial for what?
Yin Yang picked up the bag filled with peaches, opened it, and took a deep sniff. “Fortunately, there are plenty. Otherwise, they wouldn’t be of much use.”
It made sense. The Five Elements Divine Apes already had the cultivation level of saints. To advance further, a few ordinary peaches surely wouldn’t suffice.
Wukong waved his hand and left his cave. The important matter on his mind was, of course, to go to the Sacred Mountain in the West to see the Dragon Girl. Having sequestered himself for two or three hundred years, how could he remain undistracted with such a thought in his heart?
The Dragon Girl, though of average status and cultivation, held a special place in Wukong’s heart. She was the only one who could awaken memories of his past life—as the Bodhisattva Dragon Tree. Thus, subconsciously, Wukong believed that the Dragon Girl must be a key figure in his awakening.
Upon arriving at the Sacred Mountain, Wukong did not greet anyone else but went straight to look for the Dragon Girl.
There was a peak on the mountain that resembled Mount Luojia closely. When Wukong landed on it, he sensed magical energy emanating from the bamboo forest behind the mountain. Without needing to use the secrets of the Mysterious Sky Technique, he knew it must be Guanyin practicing in the Purple Bamboo Forest.
Guanyin was aware of Wukong’s arrival, but she understood that he was not there to find her but rather the Dragon Girl, so she ignored him. Wukong walked down slowly and saw the Dragon Girl standing beside an empty lotus throne, her eyes slightly lowered, lost in thought.
It was not until Wukong stepped down the last step that the Dragon Girl sensed his presence. She looked up and, upon seeing him, her eyes lit up with joy. She stepped down two steps to greet him, saying, “You’ve come.”
Wukong was slightly puzzled. Why was the Dragon Girl so enthusiastic today? He looked up and met her bright eyes once again.
In the past, whenever the two made eye contact, Wukong would enter a state where reality and illusion intertwined, allowing him to see the events of his past life as Dragon Tree. But this time, though he felt an inexplicable flutter in his heart, it was just a brief moment before he regained clarity.
The Dragon Girl said softly, “So, you weren’t like this before.”
Wukong was stunned. He nodded and said, “I can’t remember what I used to look like.”
The Dragon Girl asked, “Is this your only appearance?”
Wukong thought for a moment. His form shifted, revealing his second appearance. “How about this?”
The Dragon Girl’s eyes lit up when she saw his second form, but soon dimmed again. “No, it’s not this.”
Wukong pondered. Did the Dragon Girl want to see him as the Bodhisattva Dragon Tree? At that moment, the image of the Bodhisattva Dragon Tree in his mind became strangely blurred, and he couldn’t recall it no matter how hard he tried.
Just then, a clear cry of anger came from behind Mount Luojia: “Return my father’s life!”
Two figures flew out, one on each side. The one on the left was delicately beautiful, wearing wind and fire wheels—none other than the Third Prince Nezha. The other held an iron staff—it was the Monkey Prince Muzha.
Wukong smiled bitterly. He had forgotten that Mu Zha and Ne Zha were both on Luojia Mountain. The body of Zhuanxu he had transformed into now had once killed Li Jing, the Heavenly King with the Pagoda. How could his brothers bear to see their enemy who had killed their father appear in front of them?
Seeing that the two of them were attacking fiercely and not wanting to hurt them, Wukong stretched out his hand and froze them in place.
Mu Zha and Ne Zha had low cultivation levels, so they naturally couldn’t do anything to Wukong. But their sudden appearance ruined the subtle romantic atmosphere between him and the Dragon Girl. The Dragon Girl glanced at Mu Zha and Ne Zha, ignored them, and turned back to stand by the lotus throne.
Wukong sighed, realizing he would gain nothing more that day. He then got up and flew back to Qitian Ridge. Along the way, he kept pondering why the Dragon Girl, who usually never spoke much to him, had suddenly paid attention to his appearance today.
The appearance of Bodhisattva Longshu came clearly to mind again. He could transform into any form in an instant—so why couldn’t he remember earlier?
Lost in thought, Wukong sat on the clouds and unknowingly passed by Qitian Ridge.
He secretly laughed at himself for making such a silly mistake. Looking down, he saw a familiar landscape—it was Chang’an, the capital of the Tang Dynasty back in the day. Hundreds of years had passed since his journey to obtain the scriptures; he wondered what dynasty ruled now.
At that moment, a absurd idea crossed his mind: if dynasties continued to change as they did in the world, could humanity advance to his modern society in another thousand years? The thought vanished quickly, as the possibility was practically zero. The power rules of this world were completely different from those of a scientific world without supernatural forces—how could it develop like history?
So, what dynasty ruled the land now? Curious, Wukong, still in the guise of a scholar in white, descended and appeared at the city gate.
It was evening, and there were few people at the gate. The guards were raising the drawbridge to close it. Wukong slipped inside and saw empty streets, with only a few groups of soldiers moving about.
He didn’t need to capture anyone to ask questions. Using his supernatural powers, he heard everyone’s conversations in the city. After listening for a while, he wore a helpless smile.
It was truly strange. When he had descended to the mortal world, he had experienced the Sui and Tang dynasties. But from the conversations he overheard now, it seemed to be the Southern and Northern Dynasties period, with Chang’an under the rule of the Western Wei.
In Chinese history, the Southern and Northern Dynasties came before the Western Wei. Yet now it seemed to be after the Tang Dynasty. Could time in this world be flowing backward?
Wukong thought for a moment. This world was inherently difficult to distinguish between truth and falsehood; perhaps the names of dynasties were just coincidences. Sigh, such an invisible force—truly beyond his ability to trace its origin.
Another question arose in Wukong’s mind, so he returned to Qitian Ridge. He saw many demon soldiers returning from the Heavenly Court one after another, carrying the carved beams, painted rafters, and white jade railings from the Heavenly Court. They placed them on the ridge and then turned to fly back up to heaven.
Wukong was speechless. Were they planning to tear down every building in the Heavenly Court and move them all to Qitian Ridge? He smiled. Since these minor demons wouldn’t cause any trouble, he might as well let them go ahead.
Entering the cave where the Six Divine Apes lived, he saw that aside from Yin and Yang, the Five Elements Divine Apes were all sitting on the ground in meditation. Dozens of peaches of immortality lay before each of them, with threads of creative energy emanating from the peaches and entering through their nine orifices.
In just a short while, those plump peaches became shriveled. Yin and Yang then sent more peaches flying, which landed in front of the Five Elements Divine Apes.
When they saw Wukong enter, Yin and Yang asked, “Is there nothing else?”
Wukong nodded and said, “Nothing is more important than practicing cultivation at this moment.”
Yin and Yang gave him a meaningful look and said, “During cultivation later, don’t pay attention to them. Rely solely on your own abilities to absorb the creative energy.”
Wukong was stunned. It was obvious that the Five Elements Divine Apes were less skilled than him. He had previously thought it would be quick to help them absorb more creative energy so that all seven divine apes could improve their cultivation together. But it seemed Yin and Yang had seen through his thoughts and warned him first.
Seeing Wukong’s expression, Yin and Yang sighed and said, “I said before that those five can at most reach the level of Heavenly Sage. Even if they reach the peak of Heavenly Sage, they still won’t be able to leave this world. Do you understand?”
Wukong understood immediately. So that was it. Above Heavenly Sage was the realm of Yin and Yang. It seemed the limitations of this world applied only to those below the realm of Yin and Yang. It wasn’t that one couldn’t leave this world at all—once one’s cultivation reached a certain level, it would be no problem.
Wukong looked at Yin and Yang. The Yin and Yang Divine Apes had already reached the realm of Yin and Yang. Could he leave this world now?
Yin and Yang continued, “The Five Elements Divine Apes can stabilize the forces of the five elements in this world. If they move, this world will truly become unstable. Therefore, even if those five reach the peak of Heavenly Sage and cannot progress any further, absorbing as much creative energy as possible will be useless.”
Wukong was confused. The Calamity of the Origin Energy occurred every 129,600 years. Since the Five Elements Divine Apes were limited to below the level of Heavenly Sage, it naturally had to be done by others. But whose goal was it—to keep this world stable or unstable?
If one wants stability, why create the calamity of Huiyuan? Is the calamity of Huiyuan really this person’s original intention?
