Chapter 1: Comprehending Space (Part 2)
Qi Wu Zhen did not refuse. She took the Virtual Star, got familiar with it briefly, then stepped out of the group and approached slowly. Soon, she reached the edge where the power of void was strongest. Symbols on her body glowed with red light—the light of sigil flames. Suddenly, she stretched out her hands, and two sigil palms emerged from her wrists, gripping the edge of the spatial rift. With a forceful pull, a large, slanted crack appeared, over ten meters long and five to six meters wide.
Qi Wu Zhen stepped forward, and the spatial rift shattered instantly. The souls of those present could no longer sense her presence. Moments later, she returned calmly. She came before the group and said with a smile, “It was much easier than I thought. It’s simple—anyone can do it. There’s no danger. The sigil combinations we’ve mastered are sufficient to handle this situation.” With that, she returned the Virtual Star to Guo Shier.
Li Ran said, “Good. I’ll go this time. You all find your own ways in and meet in the passage.” He also stepped forward.
The group immediately dispersed and headed forward. Guo Shier secured Seraphine on his back and walked toward the passage. Though Seraphine knew there should be no problem, she was still nervous, feeling like she was a burden to Guo Shier.
It was the first time Guo Shier had faced such violent void power alone. He wasn’t nervous. He stretched out his hands, forming two sigil palms, and gripped the edge of a spatial rift. A tremendous force erupted instantly, tearing the rift apart. He couldn’t help but smile slightly and stepped forward, already appearing in the passage. At that moment, the amulets on his body flashed wildly, with sigil combinations rapidly collapsing and then forming anew. In less than a second, they had been destroyed and recreated hundreds of times.
Hanging in the passage, Guo Shier had a profound realization—a comprehension of space and void. At that instant, countless sigil combinations emerged in his mind. Overjoyed, he realized he could now find combinations he had never thought of before. Not daring to delay, he began experimenting immediately while passing on his insights to Old Shuai.
Seraphine was smart. Seeing Guo Shier stop suddenly after coming out of the void and hover motionless in the passage, she knew there must be a reason. Instead of waking him, she waited quietly, her heart pounding. She quietly drew her weapon, staying on high alert. Though she didn’t know what the reason was, she knew it would be unwise to disturb Guo Shier at this moment.
Not everyone had such an epiphany. Another person who experienced one was Guumu, Guo Shier’s master. The moment he entered, he too had an extremely intense realization and immediately hovered in the passage. For him, this opportunity was once in a thousand years. Not far away, Monier saw Guumu suddenly freeze and was shocked. She immediately flew toward him, but Qi Wuzhen grabbed her and said, “Don’t disturb him!”
Monier asked, “What’s wrong with him?” She was worried. Qi Wuzhen replied calmly, “He’s fine. Didn’t you notice his soul’s fluctuations?”
Li Ran flew over and said with a smile, “Wow, I also had a slight epiphany just now. It’s a pity it was so brief. I didn’t expect Guumu to have such high aptitude.”
Wang Dayang said, “There’s another one over there…”
Monier asked, “Is it Shier?”
Wang Dayang said, “That’s right, it’s him! He’s also frozen there. Hehe, interesting.”
The master and disciple both had profound insights, so no one dared disturb them. Such an epiphany regarding runes was extremely rare; once it occurred, it had to be seized—this was an opportunity only high-level altar professionals would encounter. Everyone understood that if these two had insights, everyone else could benefit as well, and it would surely be related to void and space, making it extremely useful. After a few hours, they finally woke up one after another.
After regaining consciousness, Guo Shier was drenched in cold sweat. Entering such a state in a place like this was incredibly dangerous—he might even die without knowing how. When he saw Cericlin’s wary expression, he felt a hint of warmth. Though scared, he had gained a lot—he understood several powerful rune combinations, both offensive and defensive, all realized in an instant while passing through the violent void.
Li Ran came over and asked, “How’s it going, Shier?”
Guo Shier smiled and said, “I’ve gained a lot. I need to test it out.”
Guumu also smiled and said, “It’s a good insight. Let’s exchange ideas later; I need to test it too.”
Guo Shier said, “I’ll go first to see what happens.”
At that time, he couldn’t yet apply the understood rune combinations to the Moon Blade, so he formed the combinations based on his own understanding and swung them immediately, causing the entire passage to tremble.
Li Ran and the others quickly retreated, their eyes filled with surprise. From this attack, they saw the same feeling they had witnessed when Xing Yunzi fought Lan Landai. A rune light flashed, instantly creating a spatial rift ahead. Then, Guo Shier made a horizontal slash, and another spatial rift appeared. He also retreated swiftly, exclaiming in delight, “Sure enough! Haha, I get it now! It’s that simple!”
Next, Guo Shier stretched out his hand and swept, causing the runes to naturally combine into a light screen, which he applied to the spatial rift. An astonishing scene ensued—the entire spatial rift suddenly shattered before quickly healing again.
Li Ran and the others were even more astonished. Ku Mu clapped his hands and laughed loudly, “Great! You understand it even better than I do! Haha, I get it too!” With that, he swung his palm sharply, creating five spatial rifts instantly. Smiling slightly, he shouted, “Split it open!” The combined runes exploded loudly, generating countless thin spatial rifts that quickly covered an area of several hundred meters, forming a terrifyingly dangerous zone. Only those with a deep understanding of void and space could break through such a deadly trap.
Qi Wu Zhen shook his head slightly and said with emotion, “What an extreme master and disciple! Both of them are extremely skilled. Hehe, pass on their knowledge to us.”
Guo Shier and Ku Mu experimented a few more times, making the entire passage unstable. Only after being stopped by the others did they cease. The master and disciple first shared their knowledge with each other and refined it slightly before passing on their insights to the rest.
After receiving the knowledge, Li Ran and the others did not continue on their journey immediately but instead silently processed and absorbed it. These newly discovered skills were incredibly useful, especially in such a dangerous place. Once fully understood and adapted to their own situations, they could use the combined runes to enhance altars, weapons, and their own defenses. This not only greatly strengthened their defense against the void and space but also significantly boosted their own strength.
While the others were processing the knowledge, Guo Shier quickly enhanced the altar and the Moon Blade. The handsome old man helped him apply the combined runes to the Umbrella Tower’s sacred artifact and also refined the Soul-Calming Cauldron. This was Guo Shier’s ultimate weapon, and with the new runes, it gained formidable defensive capabilities.
The seven of them stayed in the spatial passage for a day. Due to the extreme danger, they didn’t dare stay too long. Each of them refined their own altar, slightly increasing its defensive power, before continuing their journey forward.
What was originally a difficult journey full of obstacles became easier after an adventure into the void, thanks to Kuumu and Guo Shier’s insights. After passing through several spatial collapses in a row, Li Ran and the others stopped using the boundary-breaking technique and no longer feared the void. They rushed straight into it, found passages, and forced their way through. Throughout this process, both Li Ran and Guo Shier kept experimenting to improve their rune combinations.
About half a month later, Li Ran hovered in the passage and said, “Based on my estimate, the great world should be ahead. Stay alert—I don’t know what we might encounter, nor if the rules of the great world will reject us… If it does… we’ll likely be destroyed the moment we exit the passage. I must remind everyone of this.”
Guo Shier smiled and said, “Even if that happens, we can’t go back. I reckon it won’t be long before the Luotian Ruins completely collapse. Even if we tried to return, we wouldn’t have time to reach the projected starry sky. Now that we’re here, we have to give it a try. Even if we can only take a glimpse of the great world, I’m willing to do it. Hehe.”
In truth, he knew that even if his body couldn’t withstand the rejection of the great world’s rules, his soul surely could, because his soul originated from the great world and shouldn’t be rejected. Even if his body perished, his soul would be reborn.
Qi Wuzhen said, “I don’t think the great world will reject us.”
Wang Dayang laughed, “Anyway, I’ve lived a full life. To get to see a new world—hehe, it’s worth it for me.”
Kuumu smiled faintly but said nothing. Monier held his hand tightly. As long as she was with Kuumu, she wasn’t afraid of danger—she was willing to die with him.
Sericeline tightly wrapped her arms around Guo Shier’s waist. She didn’t care about life or death. At this point, there was no question of regret.
Li Ran nodded and said, “If that’s the case, we… can finally enter the great world and the vast universe. Hehe, it’s an endless place, far larger than you can imagine. It’s incomparable to our original world. That’s where we can truly show our abilities. Let’s go!”
The seven of them formed a five-star formation once again and charged forward at full speed. The final section of the passage was filled with spatial rifts, but under their assault, they couldn’t withstand even the slightest impact and were instantly shattered by the flashing runes. They no longer needed to activate their protective Aura Rings either. Through their research, they had found that the power of runes alone was sufficient to destroy those spatial rifts—the power of the void had been completely suppressed by the runes’ power.
There were more and more spatial rifts ahead, seemingly on the verge of collapsing. At that moment, everyone took action. Runes flew everywhere, instantly sealing countless spatial rifts. As for the smaller ones, they didn’t dodge or avoid them but charged straight at them, their own rune-based defenses being enough to handle them. The spatial rifts, which had once been feared like tigers, were no longer terrifying in their eyes.
It took the seven of them half a day just to traverse this short passage. Finally, they saw a faint light in the distance. Li Ran couldn’t help but shout, “It’s right ahead! Does anyone feel anything?”
The others replied, “Nothing! Not a thing!”
Li Ran declared decisively, “Let’s charge out!”
