Chapter 3: Crazy Insects (Part 2)
After about three minutes, Guo Shier was the first to notice something amiss, as he kept emitting soul waves that spread out in circles like ripples. In fact, these waves were far more intense than water ripples—water ripples spread in a flat manner, while soul waves spread in three dimensions, radiating outward in circles until they faded, capable of reaching distances of over a thousand kilometers. Of course, the farther the waves spread, the weaker the impression the soul received.
“Insects on the left… fly to the right!” Guo Shier warned, slightly relaxing at the same time. If it were just a group of Void Insects, it wouldn’t be so scary; what was truly dangerous was something they didn’t understand.
Li Ran and Qi Wu Zhen were also emitting soul waves, but not as frequently or densely as Guo Shier. It should be noted that although Guo Shier’s soul was slightly inferior to theirs, it was purer and more refined. This was thanks to his frequent recitation of soul scriptures since childhood, along with continuous soul training in his previous lives, making his soul extremely pure and robust, capable of withstanding such strain.
Li Ran led the three of them to deviate slightly from their original direction and fly toward the right.
Kasa happened to see this and cursed under his breath before immediately turning in the same direction. His detection devices hadn’t detected any danger yet, but he knew clearly that these people must have noticed something dangerous if they suddenly changed direction—otherwise, there would be no reason. So he followed closely behind. However, his Star Armament was at its limit, its performance gradually declining. He could only pray that it would hold on.
A moment later, Guo Shier’s expression changed again. With a bitter smile, he said, “Sigh, there are also insects on the right… Damn it, it’s strange. How could these insects appear in this direction?”
Li Ran turned again and rushed forward, hoping to break free from the encirclement before the two groups of insects converged. Now, there was a group of insects behind them, and another group on each side, surrounding them in a triangular formation. They all understood that these three groups of insects were targeting them.
Guo Shier said, “Damn it, let’s fly together and accelerate at the same time! Release our sacred treasures!” He unleashed the Moon Blade. The Moon Blade had been refined by the old man Shuai, slightly repaired, and was now fully usable.
Li Ran said, “Good idea. I’ll be at the front, Guo Shier on the left, and Xiao Zhenzhen on the right. Let’s work together!” In this way, the three of them formed a pointed cone shape, which not only reduced air resistance but also allowed them to concentrate their strength in one place. They had never worked together like this before because their speed was always sufficient no matter how they flew. This situation was quite rare; previously, no enemy had ever forced them to flee so desperately.
With combined efforts, their speed increased again. In an instant, they flashed through the air before disappearing. Kasa stared in shock at the detection device, which he had specifically focused on to monitor the three of them. The speed displayed was unbelievable—far beyond what he thought humans could achieve. It was so fast that the device could only provide an approximate figure. Just seeing that number made him feel like vomiting; it was impossible for him to keep up with them.
A sense of despair overwhelmed him. With a deep sigh, Kasa realized that escaping this time would be extremely difficult.
A few minutes later, the three broke free from the Void Worms’ encirclement. By then, they had left behind all the flying cars and ships fleeing ahead. Anyone trying to escape in that direction was pursued by them. At their speed, the people on those vehicles could only see a flash of light in the sky before they disappeared instantly, followed by a sharp whistling sound—the sound of wind couldn’t keep up with their flight speed.
Guo Shier said seriously, “Those worms are targeting us. They’ve changed direction!”
Li Ran asked, “In our flight direction?”
Guo Shier replied, “Yes!”
Qi Wuzhen laughed, “Do they have intelligence? No, they were flying on instinct from the start… It seems they don’t show any signs of intelligence. Hmm, strange… Forget it. Let’s focus on escaping first. If all else fails, we can use the Boundary Breaker.”
Li Ran said, “Not yet.” He truly didn’t want to use the Boundary Breaker’s essence, as it was their only hope of returning to the greater world. They should avoid using it whenever possible.
Guo Shier said, “We should be free of them soon. Hehe, after flying a little further, we won’t need to rush like this.” Flying at such speeds placed a heavy burden on the three of them, requiring them to draw on the power of the altar and their own soul energy. It consumed a lot of the energy stored in the altar. Under normal circumstances, no professional would be willing to fly like this desperately.
Cerislin was stunned. She never imagined that human speed could reach such a level. Usually, when she flew at high altitudes, the scenery on the ground moved extremely slowly. But when flying high with Guo Shier and the others, the scenery on the ground receded at incredible speed. Fortunately, they had formed an invisible rune defense while flying; otherwise, even the wind facing them would have been unbearable for her, even as a master of the Blade Clan.
Kasa quickly lost track of the three of them. His Star Armament detection device could no longer capture them, but it could still detect the traces they left in the air, so he wouldn’t lose direction. He chased desperately, cursing under his breath. He thought entering the Luotian Ruins this time was a mistake, but there was no turning back. He had no choice but to keep chasing, unaware that two groups of Void Worms were closing in on them.
It wasn’t until the warning sound from the Star Armament rang out that Kasa was shocked. The two groups of Void Worms were closing in from both sides, and the swarm behind them was also approaching. Only then did he realize he couldn’t fly beyond his limits anymore. In an instant, he was engulfed by the swarm. Kasa was a ruthless man—he immediately activated the self-destruct mechanism of his Star Armament. Though the Star Armament didn’t live up to its name, its core part came from the Greater World and was extremely powerful.
Boom!
As the swarm was about to reach Kasa, the man screamed with red eyes, “Let’s die together!”
The Star Armament exploded instantly. Kasa released all his remaining energy. In an instant, a mushroom cloud rose, and a massive shockwave spread out, sending the swarm flying. A few Void Worms were even scattered by the explosion. But Kasa could no longer be seen—he was destroyed in the blast, leaving no trace.
The explosion was very loud, and Guo Shier and the others noticed it.
Li Ran exclaimed in surprise, “Who is it?” Then he realized and said, “Kasa! It must be him! He even blew up his Star Armament. This guy is quite brave.”
Cerislin trembled slightly and said, “Kasa is dead?” She was deeply shocked. Kasa was one of the top warriors and high-ranking figures of the Tianling Clan. To die in a swarm of worms—this news, if it reached the Tianling Clan, would surely cause a huge upheaval throughout the clan.
Guo Shier said, “Judging from these movements, it can’t be anyone else. I guess the explosion of the Starry Sky Armory should have some effect on the insect swarm. Even if it can’t kill them, it will slow down their movements.” At the speed of the Void Insects, just a few minutes of delay can create a large distance between them, which is a huge advantage for Guo Shier and the others.
Qi Wu Zhen said, “We can’t stay at the Luotian Ruins any longer. Let’s leave as soon as possible. These insects are really annoying. If they keep chasing us like this, sooner or later we’ll get caught up in them, and it will be even harder to get out then…”
Guo Shier nodded. “I’m not afraid of anything else, but I’m afraid of getting separated. Once separated, it’s almost impossible to escape alive.”
Li Ran nodded. “We can’t split up. Well, there’s another ruin ahead… Should we go there?”
Guo Shier hesitated for a moment. He had some concerns—not that he was worried about dragging other races along, but because he knew Master Kumu was also at the Luotian Ruins. If he was there too, that would be very bad. He said, “Let’s change direction. I’m afraid Master Kumu is there.”
Qi Wu Zhen asked in confusion, “Do you value that master that much? What can he pass on to you?”
Guo Shier replied, “It’s different…”
Among the four of them, only Li Ran could understand Guo Shier’s feelings. After all, he had also lived on Earth and knew what a master meant to Guo Shier. So he said without hesitation, “Let’s turn around!”
Guo Shier said softly, “Thank you, big brother.”
Li Ran replied, “No need to thank me. We’re brothers.” He understood well what it meant to call someone a brother on Earth, but in the World of Spells, there weren’t as many emotional elements—these things all came from Earth. The more primitive a world, the deeper the relationships between people, while in a developed world, relationships tend to be weaker. A developed world might be one with advanced military forces or technology; people there often focus more on interests and pay less attention to nurturing relationships.
Neither Qi Wu Zhen nor Sericeline quite understood this conversation. All they knew was that there would be no more scapegoats.
Qi Wu Zhen hesitated for a moment and said nothing. She suddenly realized it would be difficult to make the two brothers change their minds. But she didn’t want to put Guo Shier in a difficult situation either, so she shook her head slightly, dismissed her thoughts, and continued flying with them.
Once the direction was changed, the idea of searching for human settlements was essentially ruled out. Now their only goal was to find the exit to the Luotian Ruins as soon as possible. Presumably, the Void Worms couldn’t leave the ruins—stable space was their killer. This place had unstable space, which gave them room to move about.
After a day of long flight, all three felt tired due to flying at full speed. Li Ran suggested, “Let’s find a place to rest; otherwise, we won’t be able to hold on. Hehe, this is the first time I’ve flown so hard. It must be over a hundred thousand miles already, right?”
Guo Shier shook his head. “Who knows? I still can’t accurately estimate my own speed. I just know it’s fast.”
Li Ran said, “Let’s rest over there.” He pointed to a small hill not far away.
Qi Wu Zhen smiled and said, “Okay…”
But Guo Shier cried out, “No!”
Li Ran was surprised and asked, “Why?”
Guo Shier looked into the distance and said calmly, “We’re in big trouble.”
