Chapter 1: Spatial Rift (Part 2)
The group flew along the canyon. Guo Shier was extremely familiar with such terrain—having seen it countless times in both the Spellworld and various minor worlds, he held no interest in it. His focus was on what was happening around them; this was not a safe place. Who knew if someone might launch a surprise attack or a fierce monster might appear? These were all threats that needed to be guarded against.
The five of them moved swiftly when suddenly, a low rumbling sound came from behind them. Guo Shier turned around and cursed, “Damn it! There’s a Mechanical Clan spaceship entering the canyon!”
The others’ expressions changed slightly. The spaceship covered almost the entire sky above the canyon, forcing exploration teams from various races to move aside. It moved at great speed, rushing straight toward them. Qi Wu Zhen said coldly, “What an arrogant guy. Could it be from the Mechanical Clan? Unlikely, right?” She knew the strength of the Mechanical Clan—they didn’t have the audacity to act so domineerly. If they provoked a skilled opponent, they’d die without even knowing how.
As the spaceship neared Li Ran’s team, the five of them weren’t flying very fast, but not slow either. Yet the spaceship’s speed was too great. Soon, its massive metal hull appeared behind them. Sericeline’s eyes burned with fury as she said, “Kill them!” She drew her dual knives and turned to confront them.
Qi Wu Zhen replied indifferently, “It’s not your turn to act!”
Hearing this, Guo Shier immediately said, “Sister Zhen is going to act—everyone, back up!” He knew how powerful Qi Wu Zhen was.
Li Ran said, “Just shoot it down!”
Qi Wu Zhen retorted, “None of your business!” Then she vanished from sight, followed by a loud explosion. Sericeline stared in shock as the domineering spaceship crashed into the cliff face on one side of the canyon. What followed was even more terrifying—Qi Wu Zhen suddenly appeared above the spaceship, waved her hands, and countless colorful flames appeared out of thin air. Those flames immediately landed on the spaceship.
As the colorful flames descended, the spaceship’s metal began to burn fiercely. The flames spread to the plants in the canyon, producing a roaring sound. Dozens of people escaped from the spaceship—perhaps so-called experts—but in the flames, they couldn’t last more than a few seconds before turning to ashes, their screams cut short.
Only then did Qi Wu Zhen teleport back. This battle took just over ten seconds. The enemy didn’t even have time to react before perishing in the flames.
Cerisine and Beron’s eyes almost popped out—this was utterly terrifying. It was only then that they realized just how powerful the Spellcasters were. The thought sent chills down their spines; they were lucky to have survived after provoking them in the first place.
This was the true strength of the top Spellcaster experts!
Li Ran glanced back and said, “Let’s go.” He continued flying forward. Guo Shier also glanced back nonchalantly before following, saying casually, “Hey, stop daydreaming and hurry up!” Cerisine and Beron exchanged a look; both saw fear in each other’s eyes. Not daring to delay, they quickly agreed and flew forward as well.
The team continued flying. Cerisine asked cautiously, “What race were those people just now?”
Guo Shier replied, “Who cares what race they are? They’re dead now. If they were so arrogant, they deserved it. Otherwise… this is what happens. They probably never faced setbacks before. Heh, this time it will cost them their lives.”
There were many other teams behind that spaceship, from various races. They all watched in horror as the spaceship burned and flames spread. They hadn’t seen Qi Wu Zhen act at all and thought the spaceship had lost control and crashed into a cliff. Some even felt pleased, but seeing such a large fire, they grew worried too. They could only temporarily unite to try to stop the flames from spreading.
Li Ran suddenly waved his hand and said, “Stop!”
Guo Shier controlled himself and grabbed Cerisine, who was charging forward. Her flying skills could be described in one word: terrible. She could only rely on her short blade to keep herself in the air. Fortunately, it was a reforged weapon; otherwise, she wouldn’t be able to fly that fast. But she wasn’t skilled enough. With her force of impact, she could dash hundreds of meters in an instant. If there was danger ahead, she had almost no chance to dodge and would just plunge straight into it.
Cerisine asked, “What’s wrong?”
Qi Wu Zhen said, “How could there be a spatial rift here?”
It wasn’t a large spatial rift but a tiny one, as thin as a thread. If one collided with it, they would be silently torn into pieces. Even a Spellcaster expert at the altar level, if they didn’t activate their defenses, would be in grave danger.
What was even more terrifying was that those spatial rifts were not fixed but kept moving, like many tiny black threads floating in the air. After studying them for a while, Li Ran couldn’t help but curse, “Damn, this is too scary. If I hadn’t seen it, at least a few of us would have died…” His gaze swept over Seraphine and Beron. Perhaps the three of them could somehow resist, but Seraphine and Beron definitely couldn’t; they would be dead the moment they rushed in.
Just then, a squad of about seven or eight people passed by not far away. They weren’t flying but walking quickly. Although there were many spatial rifts ahead, most of them were in the air, with very few on the ground, so those walking on the ground were relatively safer.
Li Ran and the other five were still figuring out how to cross when they suddenly heard a scream. One person walking there suddenly split diagonally, and those around him cried out in shock. Another person shouted, “Brother… brother…!” His voice cut off abruptly as half of his head fell off and he collapsed heavily. Instantly, everyone in the squad froze in place. Only then did they realize how extremely dangerous this place was. Trembling, they carefully turned their heads to observe their surroundings. It was terrifying—two people had died silently.
One of them spotted Li Ran’s squad not far away and shouted loudly, “Friends… help us!”
Guo Shierqi asked, “How is it that they can’t see the spatial rifts?”
Li Ran replied, “Their eyes haven’t been enhanced with any vision-casting spells, nor do they have soul fluctuations to observe their surroundings. How could they possibly see the spatial rifts?”
Seraphine seemed to remember something and said, “That’s right. Someone once said that entering the Luotian Ruins through this valley is somewhat dangerous, but… it’s not certain that you’ll encounter them.”
Li Ran nodded. “I get it. These spatial rifts aren’t always there; sometimes they appear and sometimes they disappear. We’re lucky to have seen them right away. Damn it, if I hadn’t noticed early, we’d be in trouble.”
The man shouted again, “Save us!”
Guo Shierqi said, “Well, since we’ve seen them, consider it your luck.” With that, he slowly walked over. Just dozens of meters away, he could clearly see those thin threads of spatial rifts moving slowly back and forth, appearing and disappearing from time to time.
Before Guo Shierqi could say anything, one of the frozen men suddenly let out a scream as an arm fell off silently.
Guo Shier saw clearly that it was a sudden spatial rift—staying still wasn’t safe at all. He shouted, “You… take a step back!” The guy screaming held his arm, blood gushing out. His attention was entirely on his arm, so he didn’t hear Guo Shier’s words. Those around him heard it but didn’t have time to warn him, as they were all terrified.
The spatial rift that had cut through his arm moved suddenly, splitting the man in two. The screaming stopped abruptly, followed by two thuds as the two halves fell to the ground. The scene was utterly bizarre. Finally, two people lost control of themselves, frantically drawing their weapons and attacking in all directions, killing two of their own in an instant. Guo Shier cursed under his breath, turned back to Li Ran, and shook his head. “There’s no way to save him… If he wants to die, no one can save him.”
In less than a minute, the entire squad was wiped out. Some were killed by their own comrades, while others ran into the spatial rifts and died silently. Guo Shier asked, “Cecilin, how long will this situation last?” Cecilin shook her head. “I don’t know. I only heard vaguely that it’s not only dangerous to enter the Luotian Ruins, but strange dangers also occur at the entrance from time to time.”
Qi Wuzhen tried to attack the spatial rift. After a while, she shook her head. “There are too many. Unless we use Break Boundary to force our way through, but that’s too costly.” Using Break Boundary seemed exaggerated—since it could tear through space, it surely wouldn’t be afraid of a spatial rift. In actual space, the dangers were likely many times greater. Both Li Ran and Guo Shier were well aware of Break Boundary’s power, but Cecilin and Bolong didn’t. The two glanced at Qi Wuzhen in surprise again; they couldn’t understand what treasure could pierce such a powerful cut.
Cecilin conducted an experiment. She threw an ordinary long sword into the air. The sword flew up and silently shattered into several pieces, continuing to break even as it fell, which sent chills down her spine.
At that moment, another squad rushed over. Out of kindness, Guo Shier shouted, “Hey! There’s danger ahead!” The team ignored him completely. One of them said while running, “If you’re too cowardly, don’t go to the Luotian Ruins. Haha, guys, speed up! We’re almost there!”
