Chapter 6: The Blood Woman’s Hatred (Part 1)
The Blood Woman remained silent for a while before starting to organize the talisman pouches on top of the altar. She spoke slowly, “I was captured. The Gu Mi family destroyed my hometown. I’ve been wandering outside ever since. By then, I was already a professional at the fourth-tier altar and owned a Blood Soul Altar. When I returned home… I found it gone…”
Luo Jie asked, “You came to avenge yourself and ended up getting caught?”
The Blood Woman nodded and said, “The Gu Mi family has hidden strength that’s extremely powerful. At first, I could still kill some altar-level experts, but later I could only target lower-level disciples. They had too many altar-level experts, always coming in large groups. I had no way to fight back and was eventually trapped…”
Guo Shier said, “We’re here to avenge ourselves too…”
The Blood Woman asked, “You’re not like me, are you? You’re also here to seek revenge?”
Everyone nodded. Only Nan You muttered, “I’m here to rob.” Chen Tianyao lowered his head, thinking, “I was captured… But the rewards are good—way better than what I’d get by hiring someone. Hehe.” He no longer felt resistant. The only thing bothering him was the talisman embedded in the altar—that was his real concern.
Luo Jie said, “Don’t worry, Blood Woman. Just follow me, and watch as we destroy the Gu Mi family!”
The Blood Woman smiled and said, “Okay!” Only then was she willing to become Luo Jie’s sacrificial spirit. With her as his sacrificial spirit, Luo Jie’s strength increased by 30% instantly.
Luo Jie beamed with joy. He hadn’t expected such rich rewards in Qingdao City—not only had he destroyed the Gu Mi family’s ancestral altar, but he also obtained a compatible sacrificial spirit. He asked, “Chen Tianyao, are there any other important places in the Gu Mi continent?”
Chen Tianyao replied, “Yes, many places are very important.”
Guo Shier exclaimed excitedly, “Which places? Tell us! Hehe, let’s visit them one by one…”
Eagle Demon laughed, “Right, right, let’s go visit them.”
Chen Tianyao inwardly scoffed: Sounds nice, visiting? It’s pure nonsense. He said, “The Gu Mi continent isn’t particularly large, but it’s a continent suitable for professionals to live on—something you all should know.”
Luo Jie nodded and said, “Mm, this continent is good for enhancing spiritual power.” He smiled self-mockingly, “It’s a hundred times better than the continent we used to live on… I never understood the mysteries of the lower-tier continents before. Only later did I realize that continents are indeed different, and so are their secret realms.”
Chen Tianyao said, “Yes, generally speaking, an ancient family will occupy one or two such continents as their core territories. In fact, even on these continents, there are regional differences—places suitable for cultivation and places suitable for inheritance. For example, Qingdao City is the most suitable place for inheritance.”
Guo Shier asked, “What’s special about a place for inheritance?” He wasn’t very familiar with this aspect.
Chen Tianyao said, “Regarding a place for inheritance, have you noticed that in this place… the soul feels relatively calm?”
Guo Shier thought carefully and found it true. At least they hadn’t lost their minds and gone on frenzied killing sprees. Even though they harbored deep hatred, their desire to kill wasn’t intense. He nodded and said, “There’s something like that. Not too much anger… It’s a strange place.”
Chen Tianyao continued, “Actually, as the core continent of an ancient family, there must be a particularly excellent place. Usually, the family’s most important city is built there. The most important city of the Gumi family is Gumi City. Around this city, there are several other cities, all of which are the main cities of the Gumi family. The destruction of any one of these cities would cause significant harm to the Gumi family.”
“There are also some other important cities, like Mixia City. But the destruction of such cities only causes discomfort to the Gumi family; it can’t really harm them…”
Chen Tianyao explained in great detail.
Guo Shier asked, “Master, what do you think?”
Luo Jie thought for a moment before saying, “Then let’s target their core cities directly. Let’s not attack Gumi City first. Instead, attack the cities around it and draw out their top fighters. I estimate Gumi City’s defenses must be very strong.”
Chen Tianyao nodded. “Gumi City not only has extremely strong defenses but also defensive talismans designed for attacks. If we were to attack… with our current strength, it would be difficult. Unless we can enter the city directly, but it’s hard for us to infiltrate there—the inspections are very strict, so the chances of getting in are slim.”
The old man couldn’t help but say, “This kid is really trying his best.”
For Chen Tianyao, he was a traitor to the Gumi family. As a mercenary, he was unqualified. But if he were a qualified mercenary, he might have already died. As long as he could save his life, he would rather betray the Mercenary Association, even at the cost of a large sum of money or facing pursuit.
To obtain more resources and wealth, Chen Tianyao had to rely on Guo Shier and their team. He had already made up his mind: once Guo Shier and the others completed their revenge mission, he would leave this continent and go live somewhere far away. After all, as a high-level altar professional, he would be welcomed wherever he went.
Guo Shier said, “Master, if we can capture Gu Mi City, you should be able to advance, right?”
Luo Jie replied, “I’m already on the verge of advancing… Kill a few more high-level professionals, and I think I’ll have a chance. Hehe, an eighth-level altar… I’ve longed for that for a long time.”
Chen Tianyao felt his scalp tingle with envy. This method of advancing just by killing people was truly insane. He didn’t realize that neither Luo Jie nor Qi Nanshan would have been able to continue advancing without Guo Shier’s Soul Scripture refining them—otherwise, they might have gone mad and died long ago. Only the two of them understood the danger involved. Guo Shier’s Soul Wave technique had been crucial in getting them this far.
Guo Shier said, “Let’s find a place to rest first. Grandpa Nanshan has just advanced and needs to consolidate his position too.” In fact, not only Qi Nanshan but also Old Shuai and the Blood Woman needed to be adjusted and refined using the Soul Scripture. Fighting continuously at this point was not appropriate, and he knew that well.
Qi Nanshan said, “Shier is right. Chen Tianyao, can you find a relatively safe place?”
Chen Tianyao hesitated for a moment before saying, “I do know a place—a small village that’s quite secluded. But the people there… could you please refrain from killing them?”
Luo Jie asked, “Who are they? Professionals?”
Chen Tianyao shook his head. “They’re ordinary people. Well, there are a few low-level professionals too, with the highest being at the master level. I have a woman living there…”
Guo Shier asked in confusion, “A woman? What do you mean?”
Luo Jie and the others understood. Professionals weren’t averse to romantic relationships, especially high-level professionals who traveled far and wide. When they stayed in a place, they often found women to live with them. Whether it was an ordinary woman or a female professional, most wouldn’t refuse. Living with a high-level professional could result in children with great potential, allowing them to lead a good life in the future.
High-level professionals had long lifespans. Staying in one place for a decade or even decades wasn’t much of a deal for them, but for ordinary people, it was the most important period of their lives.
Chen Tianyao smiled and said, “She’s a very beautiful woman. Hehe, she’s my woman.”
Guo Shier then understood. He wasn’t stupid either and said, “Okay, let’s go. Chen Tianyao, is it far from here?”
Chen Tianyao replied, “Not far. Flying from here, at our speed, it will take about a day and a night. We’ll arrive quickly. It’s on the edge of the mountainous area. Well, few people go there. On the Gu Mi Continent, it’s a rather unremarkable place.”
Eagle Demon asked, “How did you end up looking for a woman there?” He was very curious.
Chen Tianyao said, “Once, while on a mission, I passed by there and happened to meet her. Hehe, to be honest… I’m not really interested in women, but that woman gave me a different feeling. And then… hehe.”
Luo Jie said, “Okay, let’s go there then.”
…
Guo Shier and the others didn’t take a day and a night. It only took most of the day, as Luo Jie flew them there. They all sat on Luo Jie’s altar, including Qi Nan Shan. Luo Jie’s speed was far beyond what Chen Tianyao had estimated.
Chen Tianyao guided the way, while Luo Jie flew. In just half a day, they reached the edge of the mountainous area. It was a place with beautiful mountains and clear waters. A stream flowed out of the mountains, and not far from where the stream exited the mountains lay a small village. Scattered buildings were located on both sides of the stream, along with some cultivated farmlands.
The people here made a living by hunting, and the farmlands were used only to grow food, which was taken care of by the women in the families.
Chen Tianyao’s woman lived upstream by the stream, in a small courtyard. Luo Jie flew above the courtyard, and everyone flew down from the altar. Luo Jie folded up the altar, and the group landed in the courtyard.
Guo Shier stood in the courtyard and found it very beautiful. The courtyard wall was made of a fence—rough logs split open and planted directly into the ground, creating a fence of uneven height. Over the years, mottled moss had grown on it, along with unknown green vines that bore sparse white flowers, emitting a delicate fragrance.
Below the fence grew a cluster of low flowering trees, with light golden flowers in bloom. At the entrance of the courtyard stood a huge ancient tree whose canopy covered the entire courtyard. Sunlight filtered through the canopy, casting spots of light on the ground. As the breeze blew, those spots seemed to dance playfully.
It was a two-story wooden building with a peculiar design. In front of the courtyard was a small wooden platform, on which several potted flowers were placed. There was a corridor surrounding the upper floor, with large windows through which one could see the thin curtains gently swaying. The courtyard was extremely quiet, with only the occasional sound of birdsong heard.
Chen Tianyao called out, “Woman, I’m back!”
Guo Shier was stunned. It was the first time he had heard such a term of address—calling her directly “woman.” Did this woman not have a name?
Suddenly, a cry came from inside the building, followed by a woman rushing out.
Chen Tianyao laughed loudly as he leaped onto the wooden platform. He spread his arms wide and exclaimed, “Haha, woman, have you missed me?” Not only Guo Shier but everyone else was utterly baffled.
The woman rushed out of the house and threw herself into Chen Tianyao’s arms, slapping him twice with a light “slap, slap” sound. Then she burst into tears, crying, “You still remembered to come back? You actually remembered to come back… uuuuuh…”
Chen Tianyao remained calm, kissed her fiercely, and said, “Don’t be upset, don’t be upset… Hehe, I’m here now, right?”
The woman started punching him wildly, but those punches only made Chen Tianyao look pleased. He smiled and said, “Woman, woman… stop hitting me. We have guests…”
The crying stopped instantly, and a timid voice said, “Ah… you? How did you bring people here? I… I…” She peeked out from Chen Tianyao’s arms, secretly glancing at the people in the courtyard. Suddenly, she realized her posture wasn’t very good—her legs wrapped around Chen Tianyao’s waist, like a koala hugging a tree trunk. Her face turned red instantly.
The courtyard became once again extremely quiet, so quiet that one could even hear breathing.
