Chapter 7: The Masters of the Gu Mi Family (Part 1)
As the teleportation array activated, the portal reappeared. A blinding glow flashed, and seven people flew out of the portal. Leading them was a master at the sixth-tier altar, along with two professionals at the fourth-tier altar, and the remaining four were all at the second-tier altar. This was the core force of the Gu Mi family.
As soon as the seven stepped out of the portal, they spotted Guo Shier and the others. They then saw corpses scattered everywhere, along with piles of ashes drifting in the breeze, accompanied by a strong smell of blood.
Guo Shier and the others didn’t move either, merely watching coldly. In truth, they were excited—there was actually a professional at the sixth-tier altar. The happiest was Qi Nanshan, as he realized he was close to advancing. If he could defeat this sixth-tier professional, he might reach the seventh tier, greatly enhancing his strength.
Qi Nanshan whispered, “That guy is mine. No one else gets him!”
Guo Shier rolled his eyes. Of course not—he couldn’t defeat someone of that caliber. Aside from Luo Jie, no one else could take them all on. Of course, Luo Jie wouldn’t compete with Qi Nanshan either, knowing he was about to advance.
Only seven people came this time, with no more professionals following.
The leader, the professional at the sixth-tier altar, was a tall young man. Of course, “young” was just in appearance; no one could guess his actual age—he might even be an old man who had lived for hundreds of years.
He had a robust build and a fierce aura, clearly someone who often traveled and fought. His gaze was sharp, and when he saw Luo Jie and Qi Nanshan, his pupils contracted slightly.
They were the commanders of the previous group, but unfortunately, all those professionals had been killed. Now, only these few skilled fighters remained—just like Guo Shier and the others, forming the core of the battle force.
“The ancestor of the Gu Mi family, Mi Renjiu.”
Mi Renjiu, at the sixth-tier altar, was one of the top elites in the Gu Mi family, ranking among the highest ancestors. He never expected that just by arriving a little late, everyone who came before them would be wiped out, and the enemies were so powerful—one at the seventh tier and another at the sixth, both stronger than many top experts from other ancient families.
Qi Nanshan’s eyes gleamed as he said, “You’re a bit stronger than that Mi Le, right? Hey, since we’re all at the sixth tier, my opponent is you. Don’t forget after you die… it was me who killed you!” His words were infuriating—forcing a dead man to remember who killed him.
Mi Renjiu’s reaction was similar to Mi Le’s—he was extremely anxious. He also recognized that the two experts across from him were Soul Altar professionals, possessing the most terrifying Soul Altars, which were a nightmare for professionals. They could not only challenge opponents beyond their rank but also devour their souls. Fighting against them meant that if one lost, nothing would be left of them.
He suppressed his panic and shouted in a feignedly bold tone, “Hold back from attacking!”
Guo Shier didn’t pay attention to the conversation ahead. He secretly used soul vibrations to communicate with the others: “Uncle Eagle Demon, hold off one Level 2 Altar professional. You don’t need to win—just keep them occupied. Uncle Luo, you do the same. Nan You, are you confident you can hold off one? If not, help Uncle Eagle Demon and Uncle Luo, ready to support them at any time.”
Eagle Demon nodded. “No problem. Holding off one is easy.”
Luo Zhan nodded silently. He was also confident he could hold off a Level 2 Altar professional. Though he might not win, he certainly wouldn’t retreat quickly. Nan You said, “I’ll assist Uncle Eagle and Uncle Luo. There are two girls at the altar too; it wouldn’t be good if they got involved.”
Guo Shier said, “Good. You two hold off two of them. I’ll take care of the other two Level 2 Altar professionals. Master, the remaining two Level 4 Altar professionals are yours. Don’t delay—kill them quickly, then come help us.”
Luo Jie smiled. “No need to worry. Leave it to me.”
Guo Shier shook his head. “No, Master. We need some combat experience. It seems the Gu Mi family isn’t weak—being able to send a Level 6 Altar expert in such a short time shows they’re dangerous. We need to be careful.” He had always been cautious, especially in situations with unclear outcomes.
Luo Jie trusted Guo Shier’s judgment, knowing he was skilled in certain areas. He said, “Alright, I’ll follow your advice.”
Qi Nanshan lazily said, “Hey, Mi Renjiu, spit it out! Don’t dawdle!”
Mi Renjiu’s face turned ashen. Most professionals cared about face, and he felt extremely humiliated. His lips trembled several times, but no words came out. He suppressed his anger and briefly compared the strengths of both sides. He knew well that the slightest carelessness could lead to total defeat.
He said, “Everyone, can you tell me… why are you enemies of our Gu Mi family?” He really couldn’t understand why so many high-level professionals would attack them. These professionals were ruthless, yet there was no large army of supporting professionals, which suggested this was likely a feud.
Upon hearing this, Qi Nan Shan’s expression instantly turned ferocious. He said, “Be enemies with you? You’re wrong. We’re not enemies with you—we’re… death enemies!” The murderous intent lurking in his soul was overwhelming and impossible to conceal.
Mi Ren Jiu felt a chill in his heart and asked, “Where exactly has our Gu Mi family offended you all? Could you tell me?”
Luo Jie replied indifferently, “There’s no need to ask. Get ready to fight!” He wasn’t even bothered to explain.
Fueled by hatred, Mi Ren Jiu gritted his teeth, suppressing his erupting anger as he said slowly, “You… can’t… force… me… to… fight… unjustly!”
Qi Nan Shan sneered and said, “It’s simple. You destroyed my family and the continent! That’s all—haha! Haha… Now you fucking understand, right?”
Mi Ren Jiu’s heart turned icy. Over the past few decades, his family had conquered many continents, thanks in part to his decisions. Before conquering each continent, they conducted thorough reconnaissance—though those were mostly mid-to-low-level continents with no high-level professionals. Even if there were one or two who had reached the Altar level, they weren’t a concern. But these few people were simply too powerful.
This wasn’t just an ordinary conflict—it was a hatred that demanded extermination. Realizing he was doomed, Mi Ren Jiu started planning to escape and pretended to stay calm, saying, “Is that so? I’m very sorry. I didn’t expect such an outcome… Is there any possibility of reconciliation?”
Several hateful gazes shot his way. Mi Ren Jiu nodded and said, “Alright, I get it.” Then he suddenly teleported away. After all, he was a master at the sixth level of the Altar. If he set his mind to escape, not even Luo Jie could stop him.
Qi Nan Shan roared and chased after him, unwilling to give up this easy prey. In the blink of an eye, both of them vanished without a trace. The other professionals from the Gu Mi family panicked immediately. At that moment, Luo Jie took action. He quickly enclosed two masters at the fourth level of the Altar within his combat range, casting several spells in succession to lock them down and prevent them from teleporting away.
Guo Shier also targeted the two professionals at the second level of the Altar. He shouted, “Uncle Eagle Demon, Uncle Luo, take one each… Leave the rest to me!” His soul trembled with excitement: “Old man, use the Stabilizing Pearl! I’ll take out one first!” Suddenly, a pearl appeared above his head, rapidly expanding to the size of a football and emitting a faint glow.
The handsome old man chanted countless spells in succession inside the altar. In an instant, one of the two people targeted by Guo Shieru froze on the altar. He realized in horror that he couldn’t move at all, nor could he use his sacrificial treasure—his entire body was as if frozen in ice, leaving him unable to do anything but watch helplessly as the moon blade flew toward him. He tried to shout, but couldn’t even open his mouth.
As if trapped in an endless nightmare, extreme fear flashed in the eyes of that altar-level professional.
Crack!
The moon blade transformed into a hundred-meter-long giant blade and slashed down. Bound by the Dingkuo Pearl, the man was split in two by the blade. Even the altar beneath him couldn’t withstand it—after all, the moon blade had reached the level of a fifth-grade sacrificial treasure, far beyond what a professional with just a two-layer altar could resist.
In an instant, countless tentacles emerged from beneath Guo Shieru’s altar, curling around the shattered altar and the two halves of the corpse. Even so quickly, half of the man’s soul had already dissipated, with the rest drawn away by Gu Xi Bi’s tentacles. At the same time, a sacrificial treasure was obtained from the broken altar. When searching for the altar’s hidden symbol space again, the altar turned to ashes due to the loss of its soul, and everything inside it was destroyed as well—nothing remained to be found.
The other professional with a two-layer altar was so terrified that he turned and ran. But under the control of the Dingkuo Pearl, he couldn’t teleport and could only flee desperately.
Guo Shieru sneered, “Run? I’m an expert at escaping… Let’s see where you can run to!” Only he could say such things. The handsome old man shook his head and sighed inside the altar—this guy had no resistance to running at all, as if it were something honorable.
The man fled frantically in terror. Guo Shieru sneered once more and teleported away immediately. The Dingkuo Pearl wouldn’t affect him, so he could teleport effortlessly.
An altar appeared not far from the man, causing him to scream in fright. By now, he had no choice but to fight desperately. He knew that if he couldn’t defeat Guo Shieru, he wouldn’t be able to escape. In an instant, his face turned from pale to grotesquely fierce as he roared, “I’ll fight you to the death!”
Every time Guo Shieru heard these words, he couldn’t help but laugh, because he had once said the same thing himself—“I’ll fight you to the death.” This was usually a phrase uttered in despair. He shouted, “Then let’s fight! Slash!” The moon blade flew down with a howling sound, its piercing whine like a sharp whistle.
Helplessly, the man summoned his life sacrificial treasure—a double-headed giant axe—that flew out in a spiral to meet the slashing moon blade.
Boom! Crack…
His life sacrificial treasure immediately flew out. At the moment of collision, it was severely damaged—there was a huge difference in strength between the two. Spitting out a mouthful of blood, he dared not fight anymore and turned to run; if he didn’t, he would die.
Guo Shier tried teleporting again, this time appearing above the man’s head. Countless tentacles of the Guxi Bi extended out, instantly enveloping both the man and the altar. The tentacles transformed into spears, forcefully breaking through the defenses and capturing the man. The handsome old man shouted excitedly, “Good, another one!” He immediately controlled the Guxi Bi to forcibly seize the opponent’s soul and the items in the altar’s secret space.
The man panicked, realizing he couldn’t move at all, and then noticed that the items in his secret space were rapidly disappearing. He had never heard of someone being able to steal from his secret space—what kind of technique was this? Feeling dizzy, he saw his soul gradually fading away.
“Ah… no… no…”
In just a few moments, his soul was completely extracted by the Guxi Bi, and his body collapsed weakly on the altar. The moment his soul vanished, the entire altar collapsed with a loud crash, turning into a cloud of dust. His life sacrificial treasure was also forcibly taken away.
Guo Shier didn’t dare delay. He turned and rushed toward the professional fighting against the Eagle Demon. Although that person had the upper hand in the fight against the Eagle Demon, he lacked an effective way to defeat it, and the two kept circling each other. When he saw Guo Shier finish off two altar-level experts and fly back, he regretted not having fled earlier.
“Uncle Eagle Demon, leave this to me. Go help Uncle Luo!”
The Eagle Demon responded by teleporting away. Guo Shier silently shouted, “Handsome old man, use the Dingkuo Pearl!” The man also tried to teleport away, but the Dingkuo Pearl emitted a circle of talismanic light, quickly controlling the surrounding space. His two attempts failed, leaving him filled with fear—he knew things were bad.
