Chapter 10: The Frozen Continent (Part 2)
For seven consecutive days, Guo Shier and his companions searched the ice fields for various materials. During this time, Huo Fen Tian never appeared, but Guo Shier’s intuition told him that Huo Fen Tian was nearby, not far away. He didn’t know why he felt this way, but he simply sensed that Huo Fen Tian was still there.
That day, Guo Shier and his group continued to race across the ice fields. Searching for materials was a tough and tedious task, but fortunately, they could find rare ice-related materials each time, which made everyone happy.
Suddenly, Eagle Demon shouted, “Stop!”
Guo Shier had already run far ahead. Hearing this, he turned back and asked, “What’s wrong?” Then he understood and looked up, saying, “Are they mutated rune beasts? Uh, mutated snow wolves.”
A few small black dots appeared on the distant snow dunes. Guo Shier cast a vision-enhancing spell and immediately recognized them as mutated snow wolves. These mutated snow wolves weren’t very large, about three meters long, and differed from those he had seen before. Their fur was pure light blue, with a faint blue glow.
Nan You said, “There are more behind us too.”
Soon, Guo Shier realized that snow wolves were everywhere—around them in all directions. They were surrounded. Guo Shier couldn’t help but laugh. “Interesting. They must have been following us for a long time without us noticing. Truly worthy beasts of the Frozen Continent.” He wasn’t worried at all. Even if there were mutated snow wolves at levels seven or eight, or even if their numbers were large, they posed no threat to them.
Intimidating howls, mixed with a chilling aura, came from the wolves. Eagle Demon laughed, “There are over two hundred snow wolves. Heh, if we hadn’t advanced to the altar level, it would be difficult to deal with them. Ordinary professionals would be in big trouble if they couldn’t fly.”
Guo Shier exclaimed, “What beautiful fur! Blue… truly stunning.”
Since reincarnating into this world, besides liking to collect food, Guo Shier also loved collecting various furs. He had rarely seen fur of such beautiful color. He said, “I want their fur! It’s too pretty.”
The wolf pack closed in, emitting intimidating growls and showing their fangs as they threatened the group. Guo Shier couldn’t help but laugh.
The four of them simultaneously exerted soul pressure. They now understood that soul pressure was more effective than many weapons. Working together, they quickly subdued the wolf pack. The wolves let out panicked howls, realizing they had encountered powerful opponents.
Eagle Demon took action himself. As a hunter from the grasslands, he naturally had his own methods. Since Guo Shier liked the fur of snow wolves, he specifically targeted larger ones, killing over a dozen in just a few minutes. Guo Shier said, “That’s enough, Uncle Eagle Demon. There’s no need to kill them all.”
When the soul pressure vanished, the snow wolves, freed from oppression, fled outward like birds in flight.
Eagle Demon and Luo Zhan began stripping the wolf skins, while Guo Shier collected the souls of the snow wolves. Soon, the group finished their task. They were all experienced, having spent years exploring the Secret Realm Continent, and were highly skilled at hunting magical beasts, allowing them to collect and process them quickly.
Guo Shier gathered the dozen or so blue snow wolf skins and said satisfactorily, “Uncle Luo, back in the Tongyou Secret Realm, it was so difficult to kill even a mutated magical beast.”
Luo Zhan replied, “It’s still the dragon-type mutated magical beasts that are the most formidable. Even if snow wolves reach level seven or eight, they’re still far behind.”
Guo Shier nodded, “Yeah, dragon-type mutated magical beasts are never easy to deal with.”
Nanyou stood up, flew into the air, and glanced around before shouting, “Someone’s coming!”
Guo Shier followed him upward and asked, “Where?”
A blue glow flashed, and a figure gradually became visible. It was a young man dressed in blue robes, looking very fresh. He stared at Guo Shier and the others for a while before asking calmly, “Are you people from the Snow Valley Secret Realm?”
Guo Shier countered, “Who are you?”
The man replied, “I’m Ji Yuntian, the ancestor of the Guji family.”
Guo Shier asked, “What do you want?”
Ji Yuntian said, “You’re from the Snow Valley Secret Realm… Hmm, it seems one is missing…” Suddenly, he emitted several red glows. Guo Shier immediately recognized them as message tokens. His expression darkened as he said, “That’s right. We’re from the Snow Valley Secret Realm.”
Eagle Demon, Luo Zhan, and Nanyou had already set up their altars, and Guo Shier did the same. He flew up and sat on top of his altar, with the Moon Blade circling above his head. The four of them remained on high alert. Ji Yuntian exuded immense pressure, and Guo Shier was sure this guy was at least a master with a third-tier solid altar.
Ji Yuntian sneered and also set up his altar. Guo Shier’s eyes widened in shock. “Damn it, a master with a fifth-tier altar! How can we fight this?” His soul trembled. “Old man, hurry up and help! There’s a master here… Damn, a master with a fifth-tier altar!”
The soul of the handsome old man transmitted, “Don’t be afraid. I’ll help you secretly.” He had no choice but to help—if Guo Shier was doomed, he too would be doomed. So in a critical moment, he would never stand by idly.
Ji Yuntian said, “You’ve killed so many clan disciples and still dare to wander around the ice plains? Impressive, truly impressive!”
Guo Shier said gravely, “Uncle Eagle Demon, come here—go to the altar!” Eagle Demon and the others immediately folded up their altar and flew onto Guo Shier’s altar. They knew well that Guo Shier was the strongest here; there was no way they could fight Ji Yuntian—the gap in levels was too huge.
Without the support of the handsome old man, Guo Shier also lacked the confidence to confront a master with a fifth-tier altar.
Ji Yuntian was overjoyed. No professional with a second-tier altar had ever dared to confront him—this was simply unbelievable. He said, “Will you surrender, or shall I kill you?” In truth, he didn’t dare kill Guo Shier because there was still that powerful woman around.
He had originally planned to retreat immediately after finding Huo Fen Tian and send a signal token, but since Huo Fen Tian wasn’t there, he changed his mind and decided to capture Guo Shier and the others alive so he could have hostages. He was excited—catching them would earn him great merits for his clan.
The soul of the handsome old man transmitted, “Put away the Moon Blade. Use my Soul Annihilation Gun!”
Guo Shier without hesitation put away the Moon Blade, and a long spear appeared above his head. This golden spear was only the size of a toothpick, and with the handsome old man’s concealment, it seemed even less noticeable than the Moon Blade. Ji Yuntian didn’t care at all. How good could a professional with a second-tier altar’s sacrificial treasure be? He had no idea that this Soul Annihilation Gun was a sixth-tier sacrificial treasure, one rank higher than his own.
Ji Yuntian’s sacrificial treasure was a cold-type ice crystal long knife, a fifth-tier sacrificial treasure. He wasn’t in a hurry to act either. This time, the Guji Clan had brought a large number of altar-level masters to surround and kill those who came out of the Snow Valley Secret Realm, especially Huo Fen Tian. They guessed that the woman had at least a seventh-tier altar or higher, but they couldn’t be sure because her killing speed was simply too fast.
Guo Shier said, “My fate is in my own hands! You can’t decide it for me!”
Ji Yuntian showed a cold smile and said, “Hah… Interesting. Don’t you realize… the huge gap between you and me?”
Guo Shier replied unflinchingly, “I don’t think there’s much of a gap!”
Ji Yuntian was extremely arrogant. He didn’t even ask for Guo Shier’s name, showing no respect for him at all. With a cold sneer, he said, “Oh, so confident? In this world, confidence alone isn’t enough. If you can block my strike, then… I’ll let you go!”
Eagle Demon couldn’t help but curse, “Disgraceful bastard!”
Luo Zhan still didn’t quite understand, but Nan You had already realized. He said, “This is forcing Shier to fight him head-on.”
Guo Shier said coldly, “I’m afraid even if I block your strike, you’ll have some nonsense to say again. Hmph, do you think I’m not brave enough?”
Ji Yuntian was secretly pleased and said, “Then let’s give it a try!”
In fact, Guo Shier also wanted to fight him head-on. After all, the Soul-Annihilating Gun was controlled by Old Shuai. With the power of a sixth-grade sacrificial artifact like the Soul-Annihilating Gun, even if Old Shuai couldn’t fully utilize it, fighting head-on was completely feasible.
“Fight!”
Guo Shier pretended to point at Ji Yuntian. The Soul-Annihilating Gun above his head spun once before shooting out abruptly.
Ji Yuntian wasn’t expecting Guo Shier to attack first. He flew into a rage and shouted, “Slash!”
The Ice Crystal Long Blade turned into a blue beam of light, slashing forward with a thunderous sound. Since Guo Shier had taken the initiative, he could strike directly without dodging.
Boom!
The two sacrificial artifacts collided head-on.
The Soul-Annihilating Gun was sent flying backward. Ji Yuntian was shocked to find that his own life sacrificial artifact couldn’t shatter the other’s. He stared in disbelief at the Soul-Annihilating Gun—what grade was it? It could withstand his fifth-grade life sacrificial artifact! A professional with a two-layer altar could block his attacks? What a joke.
Guo Shier looked at him coldly.
Ji Yuntian remained calm and said, “Again!” The Ice Crystal Long Blade suddenly extended, and the ice and snow on the ground cracked under gusts of wind. A cold aura surrounded the blade, and in an instant, it grew to a hundred meters long. The distance between the two widened to a full kilometer.
Eagle Demon and the others cursed loudly. Such a master speaking like some fool.
Guo Shui activated the Soul-Annihilating Gun. In fact, it was Old Shuai who was controlling it. In an instant, the gun also grew to a hundred meters long, hovering above Guo Shier’s altar.
Ji Yuntian roared, “Kill!”
The Ice Crystal Long Blade slashed down again. Guo Shier responded with equal ferocity, shouting, “Kill!”
Boom! Boom! Boom!
Unrelenting attacks. Ji Yuntian was horrified to find that his Ice Crystal Long Sword kept retreating. The final strike made the sword emit a mournful sound. Yet Guo Shier didn’t have the means to break through the opponent’s sacrificial treasure—after all, the Soul Annihilation Gun wasn’t under his control. Though it was a sixth-grade sacrificial treasure, it could only give him a slight advantage and not completely suppress the opponent.
The two were evenly matched. Ji Yuntian’s expression darkened. He never expected that a professional with a two-tier altar could match him in battle. Suddenly, he unleashed another sacrificial treasure, planning to use two weapons at once.
Guo Shier didn’t dare continue fighting, as he saw magical lights flashing on the horizon—Ji Yuntian’s reinforcements had arrived. It was already difficult for Ji Yuntian to handle one opponent; adding another expert with a solid altar would be overwhelming. He instantly teleported away.
Ji Yuntian cursed loudly and chased after him.
