Chapter 6: Natural Lei Character (Part 1)
Countless streams of molten rock sprayed out, hitting the defenses of Nanyou’s altar with a crackling sound. The intensely hot airflow struck the altar, making Nanyou feel as if he were on a turbulent sea, with his small boat on the verge of capsizing. Frightened, he fled desperately.
Amidst the roaring noises, the collapsed ground rapidly rose back up.
The handsome old man released a palm-sized white talisman. With a flick of his hand, the talisman swelled to over a meter in length and spun in the air. Then the old man shouted, “Go!”
The white talisman flew into the air and hovered above the rising ground. A natural rune was forcibly extracted from beneath the ground. The white talisman emitted a soft glow, enveloping the natural rune. After a moment, a “Lei” character appeared on it. The old man exclaimed, “Kid, pay attention! Success or failure depends on this!” He and Guo Shieru frantically created countless virtual talismans, which began to merge with the extracted natural rune.
It was only then that Nanyou and Huo Yu realized there was a natural rune underground. They exchanged a wry smile. After coming here for so long, they never expected Guo Shieru to obtain this character.
The natural rune was forcibly incorporated into the white talisman, forming a solid talisman that fell into the old man’s hands. He said, “The Natural Lei Character Rune—haha, it’s the best rune for strengthening an altar… without a doubt. Who would have thought such a treasure existed in this poor place, and that I’d even discover it? I told you… with this huge cloud stone mine, how could there be no oddities?”
Everyone listened to the old man’s endless boasts about his own greatness, not knowing what to say.
The ground was in chaos, with a huge, bottomless pit. The scorching molten rock gradually solidified.
The old man casually said, “Kid Nanyou, there’s a mineral vein underground—Qingyun Stone Mine. It’s even more advanced than cloud stone and makes an excellent building material. Report it… By the way, is there any reward?”
Qingyun Stone Mine being more advanced than cloud stone made it an excellent building material as well. Hearing this, Nanyou rejoiced, “Really? It’s Qingyun Stone Mine? Of course there’s a reward! I’ll report it as soon as I get back.” He glanced at Huo Yu and said, “Huo Yu, let’s say we discovered it together—how about that?”
Huo Yu was extremely poor, so she certainly wouldn’t refuse such a good opportunity. Though she wondered why it wasn’t Guo Shieru and the others who found it, she wasn’t the kind to ask questions. She nodded and said, “Alright, then I thank you in advance, younger brother.”
Guo Shier put away the altar and placed it outside again, unsure what the old man would say next. He was a bit afraid that the old man might act recklessly; he didn’t care much himself, but others might not be able to tolerate it.
Nanyou suddenly turned around and asked, “Who’s coming over?”
A beam of white light streaked across the sky, followed by the appearance of a figure. It was an old man with long flowing hair and a cold expression. He first glanced at the large hole in the ground, his expression turning even darker, and asked, “Who took away this natural rune?”
Nanyou replied irritably, “Hey, who the hell are you?”
The old man with long hair said, “I am Lin Su, from the ancient Lin family.”
Nanyou said, “I’m from the ancient Nan family, Nanyou.”
Huoyu said, “I’m from the ancient Huo family, Huoyu.”
Guo Shier watched coldly from the side. He had no interest in introducing himself. In his eyes, this person from the ancient Lin family was merely a master of a solid-form altar and not worth paying attention to.
Lin Su didn’t notice Guo Shier either, as the Eagle Demon and Luo Zhan blocked his view. With a quick glance, he saw that the Eagle Demon and the other were just high-level Grand Sage Masters, so he ignored them and continued, “Who extracted this natural rune?”
Hearing this, Nanyou laughed heartily. He had asked the same question back in the day. Sigh, those were unpleasant memories. He said, “It doesn’t matter who extracted it. The question is… things in the wild belong to whoever finds them. Why do you have the right to question them?”
Lin Su became frantic and said, “I found it first!”
Nanyou sneered, “Strange. You found it first… why didn’t you take it then? Why wait until now? Do you think this is your property? You’re sick!” he mocked rudely.
Lin Su was furious and cursed, “You’re the one who’s sick! Hand over whoever took it!”
Nanyou also got angry and said, “I’ll give you your mother’s head!”
Lin Su immediately brought out his altar and sat on it—it was a solid-form altar. He was extremely angry. He had indeed found this place first, but due to the lack of certain things, he couldn’t extract it right away. If he had forced it, the natural rune would have been damaged. That’s why he had left for a while to find those missing items. After spending two and a half years, he returned only to find that the natural rune had already been taken. Of course, he was furious.
Nanyou wasn’t afraid. With Guo Shier behind him, Lin Su was no match in a fight. It was a rare chance to tease a higher-level professional, so he was thrilled. He immediately brought out his altar.
Huoyu also brought out his altar. Guo Shier and the Eagle Demon Luo Zhan remained hovering aside.
Lin Su also had his reservations. Though he was stronger than the two before him, his advantage was limited. Moreover, the two of them belonged to two ancient clans, both of which were major ones. Offending two such powerful clans at once would be extremely unwise. Yet he simply couldn’t accept it. If he could obtain this natural rune, he might be able to advance again and reach the second level of the tangible altar. So he had no choice but to threaten them with force.
Lin Su said coldly, “With your strength, do you dare fight me?”
Nan You laughed, “Do you think you’re so great?”
Furious, Lin Su shouted, “This drives me mad!”
Guo Shier suddenly interjected, “Then why don’t you just die!” He despised such people the most, so his words were rude. After all, it was he who had taken the item—how could he let Nan You and Huo Yu take the blame?
Ying Mo and Luo Zhan drew their life talismans, ready for battle.
Lin Su was so enraged that he cursed, “Damn you, seeking death!” His sacrificial treasure appeared—a silver spear emitting a cold aura. It was about the size of a chopstick and hovered above his head, spinning like the hands of a clock.
With his curse, the silver spear shot out abruptly, striking at Guo Shier like lightning.
Nan You and Huo Yu didn’t intervene. They knew Guo Shier was strong enough and didn’t need their help.
Ying Mo and Luo Zhan wanted to act, but they weren’t fast enough. As soon as the curse was uttered, the silver spear pierced through the air and arrived before Guo Shier in an instant. The spear was now three meters long and as thick as a duck egg. With a deafening sound, an extremely cold aura locked onto Guo Shier.
Lin Su seemed to already see the scene of the spear piercing his opponent’s chest, a ferocious smile appearing on his face.
A dot of red light suddenly appeared in front of Guo Shier, moving faster than lightning. It struck the spear shaft with a bang! Though not very powerful, it deflected the spear’s trajectory, causing it to pierce empty space beside Guo Shier. Guo Shier said coldly, “You die, I live!”
The Moon Blade suddenly grew massive and swung down fiercely. A blood-red dragon shadow appeared, roaring as it charged at Lin Su.
A third-grade sacrificial treasure!
Frightened, Lin Su quickly retracted the silver spear and used the altar to dodge. But with Guo Shier locking onto his position, evasion wasn’t easy. Watching the Moon Blade descend, he frantically chanted spells while trying to use the silver spear to block it.
Pop!
The altar’s defensive shield shattered.
Clang…
The silver spear sacrificial treasure was sent flying.
Boom!
The altar shattered.
The Moon Blade slashed downward with unstoppable force. Lin Su had no choice but to abandon the altar and teleport away. He never expected Guo Shier to be so fierce—just one strike had left him utterly defeated.
Destroying the altar injured his soul, and Lin Su spat out blood repeatedly. That single strike terrified him.
Half of the altar was destroyed, but thankfully it could still be retrieved. However, repairing the damaged altar would be difficult. His current strength was even weaker than that of a professional with a virtual altar. Lin Su’s face turned pale as he trembled, lips shaking: “You… you… damn it… you’re a master of a real altar! You…”
No way to play around like this. A master of altars hiding behind two Great Saints, making people think he was weaker than them, speaking so rudely—who else but him to be attacked? Yet he ended up getting his head smashed like hitting an iron mountain. How utterly ruthless.
Lin Su was beyond tears, filled with regret. Why attack the strongest person? He couldn’t even block a single strike from his opponent. Not daring to stay any longer, he recalled the damaged altar and ran away, cursing, “You… wait for it…”
Everyone was astonished. This guy reacted quickly—after just a few words, he ran away without hesitation. He wasn’t stupid, but why did he have to attack the strongest person here? It was incomprehensible.
Guo Shier didn’t chase after him; giving him a lesson was enough. He was satisfied with the Moon Blade he had reforged—its power exceeded his expectations. He asked, “Is this ancient Lin family… very strong?”
Nan You replied, “Not bad. It’s a medium to large ancient family, quite powerful, but still slightly inferior compared to our Gu Nan family.”
Huo Yu snorted, “Hmph, even worse than our Gu Huo family. A second-rate ancient family acting so arrogantly—needs to be tamed!”
Nan You said, “It’s a shame he ran away so fast…”
Guo Shier said with a half-smile, “Do you plan to kill him? That will cause great trouble for your family.” Killing a professional below a Great Saint as a master of altars usually wouldn’t cause much trouble, but killing a master of a real altar was like stirring up a hornet’s nest—no family would let it go easily. Masters of real altars were top-tier fighters; losing one of them was unbearable for any family.
