Chapter 7: Intervention (Part 1)
The Eagle Demon was also stunned. After a long while, he said, “I don’t know what level this mutated Spirit Beast is… All I know is that we don’t even have the right to get close to it!”
A dragon-type mutated Spirit Beast! This could be identified at a glance—it was quite different from the Earth Dragon and Giant Nesting Dragon that Guo Shier had seen before. It must be an ancient dragon-type mutated talisman beast.
Zhu Jiamao, the Fiery Beauty, Yan Ci, and two other elders stood side by side in midair, all with grim expressions. Zhu Jiamao said in a deep voice, “Everyone else, evacuate immediately! The Great Sage should organize a team! The five of us will hold it off here!”
Guo Shier was shocked. Zhu Jiamao hadn’t said to kill it but to hold it off. In other words, even these five experts weren’t strong enough to kill this ancient Spirit Dragon.
Then, another identical mutated Spirit Dragon appeared. All the other Spirit Beasts vanished, and the giant pillars retracted back into the ground one by one. Guo Shier suddenly realized what was happening and said, “This isn’t a mutated Spirit Beast… it’s an Aberrant Spirit Beast! It’s even more powerful than mutated Spirit Beasts!”
The Eagle Demon said, “I’ve only heard of Aberrant Beasts… Uh, I get it now.” He too was someone who had received inheritance, allowing him to search for relevant information, so he understood right away.
Zhu Jiamao shouted, “Lure them away! The Fiery Beauty and I will form one group, Yan Ci… you form another group—lure them away! Everyone else, leave this place immediately!”
“All Great Sages stay behind; everyone below the rank of Sage must leave!”
After saying that, the Fiery Beauty and Zhu Jiamao rushed at an Aberrant Spirit Beast.
The Sages quickly moved toward the Ancient Talisman Gate. They were well-trained experts with a clear organizational structure, far from being a random crowd. Soon, they entered the Ancient Talisman Gate in an orderly manner by group.
The first to enter the Ancient Talisman Gate were the wounded, followed by weaker individuals like Guo Shier.
Guo Shier didn’t want to leave. He wanted to see how Zhu Jiamao and the others would fight against the Aberrant Spirit Beasts. But his opinion meant nothing; it was impossible for him to stay.
Everyone returned to the Land of Blood through the Ancient Talisman Gate. Guo Shier and the Eagle Demon came out through the cave and stood atop the cliff, looking around in astonishment. Since the thick black fog had completely dissipated, they saw the true face of the Land of Blood for the first time.
Rugged rocks and bones littered the ground, with soil as black as ink, giving off an impression of desolation and cruelty—like an ancient battlefield after countless battles. There were also many huge pits on the ground, unknown whether left by fighting or formed naturally.
The Eagle Demon sighed, “What a bloody land!”
Guo Shier suddenly froze. He noticed another change in his life sigil ball and immediately focused his mind on it. The sigil gate Li Ran had left for him had changed, and the coordinates inside had transformed back to the original ones. This meant he could go back.
The Eagle Demon sensed Guo Shier’s unusual expression and asked softly, “What’s wrong?”
Guo Shier tried hard to calm his racing heart and whispered, “We can go back… Be careful, don’t speak…” If they could escape this place, it would be incredible luck. He had almost given up at the altar, but now he had a chance.
The Eagle Demon nodded silently, secretly excited. The gains from this trip were unimaginable. He never thought he would be promoted to a Saint Master and even inherit the legacy of the Ancient Soul Altar.
Guo Shier didn’t want to explore why the sigil gate had changed; he just wanted to leave as soon as possible. He was wary of professionals from the Advanced Continent. To this day, he still didn’t know what class Zhu Jiamao and the others belonged to—only that those old men were far stronger than even a Great Saint Master.
There were people everywhere, mostly Saint Masters, with a few Mad Masters, including quite a number of Advanced Saint Masters. Guo Shier had no chance to open the sigil gate, which filled him with anxiety.
Most people were sitting on the ground resting. When passing through the ancient sigil gate, Guo Shier had retracted his Dark Wing Scorpion. He didn’t have time to observe the changes in his life sigil ball and was only thinking about how to find a chance to escape. At this moment, he longed for the thick fog of the Bloody Land.
The Eagle Demon also observed carefully. After a while, he said in a low voice, “No chance!”
Guo Shier felt frustrated and nodded slightly. “Yes, no chance… There are too many people from the inspection team.”
There were over two thousand people around, with more and more carts arriving, dropping groups of inspectors—all skilled professionals. Guo Shier said gloomily, “How can there be so many skilled professionals… It’s terrifying.” He thought the experts from the Chenxiao Sect were already numerous, but only in the Bloody Land did he realize he had been living in ignorance.
Just as the two were at a loss, Zhu Jiamao and several other top experts flew over. All five of them seemed in disarray; Yan Ci and another elder appeared injured, with blood on their mouths, cursing all the way as if unwilling to give up. Everyone understood that they must have suffered greatly.
Guo Shier smiled bitterly and said, “Alas, we’re in big trouble!”
Zhu Jiamao landed on the ground and said, “If we don’t kill those two Abnormal Spirit Dragon entities, we won’t be able to control the Ancient Soul Altar. We’ll have to request experts from various major sects…” Before he could finish speaking, a huge talisman gate suddenly appeared not far from Guo Shier and his group.
An invisible repulsive force pushed the surrounding Saint Masters far away.
Zhu Jiamao’s expression changed as he said, “Who’s coming? This is… this is an advanced talisman gate!”
As the talisman gate appeared, Zhu Jiamao shouted, “Be on guard! Form a combat formation!” He knew things were bad—this kind of talisman gate was extremely advanced. Even on the Advanced Continent, only super-large sects would possess such luxurious teleportation talisman gates. This was a gate that spanned secret realms and continents, a high-end device used in continental wars.
Guo Shier’s group stood out alone. Since they weren’t part of the inspection team, they stayed put without moving. All the surrounding Saint Masters retreated.
Eagle Demon shouted, “Let’s retreat!”
Guo Shier grabbed Eagle Demon tightly. He didn’t want to retreat—chaos meant more opportunities. Moreover, he had a faint hope that the change in coordinates might be related to Li Ran.
Zhang Yaojin and the others also began retreating quickly, leaving only Guo Shier and Eagle Demon near the talisman gate. Zhou Xiaoling called out, “Shier, come here quickly!”
Before Guo Shier could respond, ten people flew out of the talisman gate, followed by hundreds more. Realizing he had been reckless, Guo Shier quickly pulled Eagle Demon back.
Zhu Jiamao and the others stepped forward immediately and shouted, “Who are you? Where did you come from? This is a restricted secret realm—no outsiders are allowed in!”
Faced with those ten unusually young people, Zhu Jiamao was extremely shocked. He realized they were no less skilled than himself—all were experts surpassing Great Saint Masters. The hundreds who came after them were all Great Saint Masters, most of them advanced Great Saint Masters. He knew these people must have come for the Ancient Soul Altar.
The ten top experts didn’t respond either. They stood in two rows in midair, waiting quietly.
Two more people came out of the talisman gate, after which it disappeared swiftly.
As those two appeared, Zhu Jiamao, the Fiery Beauty, Yan Ci, and the two elders beside them all changed expressions. The powerful spiritual pressure from them was even stronger than that of the two mutated spirit dragons that had appeared at the altar—overwhelmingly so. All the experts hovering in the air were forced to land, including those who had come out of the talisman array gate.
Guo Shier was extremely disappointed and muttered to himself, “Could I be wrong? Does this have nothing to do with Li Ran?”
The two of them seemed very young, but no one would think they were truly young. One male and one female, holding hands, they wore identical outfits—bright red robes. At first glance, Guo Shier thought they looked like the bride and groom from his past life.
The man was handsome and striking, while the woman was breathtakingly beautiful.
Zhu Jiamao’s expression turned extremely ugly. He whispered, “Old Yan, be careful and retreat. Send a message to the sect! Ask for reinforcements!” One of the great sage masters beside him quietly stepped back.
The man and woman ignored Zhu Jiamao completely and bowed toward the place where the talisman array gate had disappeared, saying, “Master.”
The air seemed to twist suddenly, and an old man with a white beard appeared out of thin air.
The moment he stepped forward, Zhu Jiamao’s expression shifted from ugliness to utter despair. He instinctively bowed and said, “A junior sees you, senior!”
The old man said indifferently, “You may take these people and leave. You’re… quite good, quite wise—you didn’t attack. Go. Here’s a message token; you can use it to report back. You don’t need to take any responsibility for this matter.”
Guo Shier kept watching closely. He saw the old man throw something small, which Zhu Jiamao caught, his face showing relief. He knew they couldn’t fight anymore.
The old man asked, “Who is Guo Shier?”
Guo Shier’s heart felt as if it had been hit by a hammer. He stepped back, his heart pounding wildly. But he knew he couldn’t hide now—many people here knew his name. He stepped forward and said, “I’m Guo Shier.” He tried his best to stay calm.
The old man said indifferently, “Come to me.”
Guo Shier had no choice but to obey. He walked over silently, with the Eagle Demon following closely behind.
Zhu Jiamao glared at Guo Shier fiercely before turning and saying, “Let’s retreat!” There was resentment in his voice. When the old man called out Guo Shier’s name, he realized that this kid was a thorn—a thorn that had infiltrated their ranks. He was filled with rage.
Guo Shier turned to look at Zhang Yaojin and the others, only to find that they had blended in with the crowd and disappeared.
