Chapter 2: Mission (Part 2)
Monier knew Guo Shier had misunderstood. She smiled and said, “Professionals generally don’t kill ordinary people because they pose no threat to their lives nor can they improve their own strength. Advanced professionals also rarely attack lower-ranked ones for the same reason… The fiercest battles occur between those of the same rank or with similar strength—only then do they fight and kill each other. Of course, if a lower-ranked professional dares to offend an advanced one, death is inevitable.”
Guo Shier began to understand. When Kumu encountered Luo Jie, he didn’t kill him because he disdained killing. Luo Jie posed no threat in his eyes, and since Luo Jie hadn’t offended him either, he was lucky to survive. Thinking back to that moment, it was truly terrifying—if anyone had offended Kumu, none of them would have survived. It was only after arriving here that Guo Shier realized how formidable Kumu was.
With Monier guiding Fei, the three of them moved at great speed and reached Wuyu Town in just over an hour.
…
Wuyu Town was extremely beautiful. Guo Shier felt as if he had arrived in the water towns of the previous life—shrouded in misty rain, the entire town hidden beneath green tree canopies. Fine raindrops fell, and a light mist rose, making the air especially fresh. A cobblestone path wound forward; the stones, wet from the rain, resembled smooth jade, showing faint blue patterns.
Willow trees grew along the edge of the town, and not far away lay the vast Xing Lake.
Monier led Guo Shier and Eagle Demon onto the cobblestone path. Guo Shier was stunned. The scenery here bore too many similarities to his previous life’s water towns—even more beautiful. He stood quietly until Monier gently pushed him. “Baby, what’s wrong?”
Guo Shier shook his head slightly and said, “Nothing. It’s just really beautiful here.”
Monier exhaled in rare admiration. “Yes, this is the most beautiful place in Chenxiao Sect—Wuyu Town! Baby, do you know what it used to be called?”
Before Guo Shier could answer, she continued, “Blood Rain Town! It was once called Blood Rain Town.”
Guo Shier asked, “Why that name?”
Monier replied, “It was once attacked by a very powerful sect. The entire town and all its inhabitants were slaughtered, with only a few escaping to Chenxiao Sect… Chenxiao Sect almost fell too. Without the protective talisman array, it might not exist today.”
Guo Shier asked, “What kind of sect could be that cruel and vicious?”
Monier shook her head and said, “Fights between sects are like this. There’s nothing really fierce or malicious about it. If it were the Chenxiao Sect to attack, they would do the same thing…”
Guo Shier felt a chill sweep over him. The local customs and moral standards were vastly different from what he was used to. He sighed inwardly and asked, “What happened after that?”
Monier replied, “After that… that big sect was destroyed by our Chenxiao Sect. That’s because we obtained the Void Mist Dao, and with two master-level experts who went to the higher-level Spellcraft Continent and managed to advance, our strength far surpassed theirs. Hehe, so they were wiped out, while Chenxiao Sect survived.”
As they spoke, the three of them walked along the bluestone path into Misty Rain Town.
A small river flowed through the town, with many small boats moored along its banks. Along the riverbank was a street, and on the other side were houses with simple architecture.
Guo Shier felt a sense of familiarity. Compared to the water towns of his past life, the houses here were much simpler, yet the atmosphere of a water town was strong. There were also stone bridges over the river, with people coming and going, creating a lively scene. Almost everyone who saw them showed reverence and quickly stepped aside, waiting until they passed before continuing on their way. This was the extraordinary status of professionals.
The three walked slowly. Monier held Guo Shier’s hand, introducing things to him as they went. She seemed very familiar with the place, knowing every shop by name. Guo Shier asked curiously, “Masteress, do you come here often?”
Monier said, “Yes. When I was young, I would come here every few days. Except for that wooden-headed master of yours—he gets angry every time he comes here. Sigh, he’s always furious.” She held a great grudge against Kuumu; whenever the topic came up, she would be filled with anger.
Guo Shier secretly chuckled. He had known Kuumu’s temper from the start—it was that of a madman, a professional madman who was only interested in things related to his profession and paid no attention to anything else.
He didn’t try to persuade his masteress, knowing it was useless. Both of them had stubborn temperaments and wouldn’t listen to anyone’s advice.
Eagle Demon followed Guo Shier silently. He was usually quiet, and in unfamiliar places, he became even more silent.
They soon arrived at a dock, where there was a river bend with a dozen or so wooden boats of varying sizes moored there. Some fishermen were unloading baskets of fish and shrimp, while others were merchant ships with workers loading goods. Right next to the dock was a large restaurant, with a flagpole at its entrance and a flag fluttering in the wind.
Guo Shier had seen such a flag before and knew that this industry belonged to the Chenxiao Sect. He asked, “Masteress, is it here?”
Monier nodded. “It’s behind the restaurant. Let’s go in.” Instead of entering the restaurant, she led him through a small alley beside it. They quickly passed the restaurant and arrived on a street behind it.
This was the bustling commercial street; the streets along the riverbank were merely residential areas.
People were coming and going on the street, most of them looking relaxed. From time to time, carts carrying goods passed by, along with a few horseback riders who appeared tired and clearly had come from afar.
Guo Shier felt a strange sensation, as if he had arrived in a water town from his past life—an ancient one. Although the clothing of the people here was very different from that of ancient times in his past life, their long robes gave them an ancient appearance. The absence of modern items further enhanced the sense of antiquity. He really liked this feeling.
Suddenly, the sound of rapid horse hooves came, followed by someone shouting, “Move aside! Move aside!”
Chaos ensued immediately, as pedestrians rushed to the sides of the street. Monier held Guo Shier’s hand and stayed in the middle of the street. She refused to move, so Guo Shier quickly pulled her to the side. Monier said, “Baby, don’t move.” Guo Shier couldn’t help but smile bitterly, knowing she was upset.
Eagle Demon stepped forward and blocked in front of Guo Shier. Monier said calmly, “Xiao Ying, don’t block me!”
At that moment, three tall magic horses appeared around the corner and rushed forward at high speed. The riders immediately spotted Monier in her purple robe. Their expressions changed drastically—everyone knew the status of those in purple robes within the Chenxiao Sect. The three of them tightened their reins desperately. One of them shouted, “Move aside! Move aside…” His voice had changed.
The magic horses were extremely fast. It only took a few breaths to cover dozens of meters, and the three horses were already right in front of them.
Monier firmly refused. She raised her hand and waved it lightly, and three silver talismanic patterns suddenly appeared, causing the three talismanic horses to explode. The three people on the horses realized they were in big trouble the moment Monier raised her hand. Unable to stop their galloping horses, they had to leap off and jump to the side of the street. The moment their bodies left the horses, the horses exploded, splattering flesh and blood and creating three clouds of blood mist.
Guo Shier was stunned. What kind of technique was this? He didn’t even understand how Monier had done it—she hadn’t shown any talismans; she just waved her hand, and the three strong talismanic horses exploded into piles of flesh and blood mist. It was terrifying.
The three men didn’t dare to escape. They crawled over and knelt in front of Monier, their faces pale.
Monier sneered, “So impressive! Are you feeling happy and excited?”
Only then did Guo Shier realize that these three must be inner disciples of the Chenxiao Sect, as they were all wearing sapphire robes with identity tokens tied to their waists, and they were around twenty years old. A closer look showed that two of them had the strength of talisman casters, while the third seemed to be a talisman martial artist.
“Elder Uncle…”
Monier said irritably, “Get up! I’m too lazy to deal with you. Stop being so arrogant from now on!”
The three men hurriedly got up and ran away. Monier called out, “Come back!” They stopped reluctantly, and Monier said, “Clean up this mess. If I see you being so arrogant again, well, don’t blame me if I’m not gentle!”
After saying that, Monier led Guo Shier forward until they reached the entrance of a large shop. Then she whispered, “Baby, isn’t my wife impressive?”
Guo Shier was stunned for a moment before realizing what was going on and couldn’t help but laugh. It turned out his wife was just showing off. He said with a smile, “Your wife is really impressive…”
Monier walked into the shop proudly. In fact, when she was younger, she had been even more arrogant than those three.
Guo Shier asked, “Were those talismanic horses just now?”
Monier nodded. “That’s right, but they’re not good talismanic horses. True good talismanic horses have extremely fine scales and no hair… Good talismanic horses are also called dragon horses—those are truly rare and excellent horses. With the power of talismans, dragon horses can even gallop a foot off the ground at astonishing speeds… Even in our Chenxiao Sect, there aren’t many of them.”
Guo Shier was amazed. “Dragon horses? So powerful!”
Monier nodded. She waved for a clerk and asked, “Where is your boss? Call him here to see me.”
Soon, the boss rushed out. He was a middle-aged man who said respectfully, “Uncle, I am the new manager of Dachen Shop. My name is Xie Lingyun. You can just call me Xiaoyun… What can I do for you, Uncle?”
Guo Shier felt goosebumps all over his body. Xiaoyun? This guy is really exaggerating! Monier seemed unfazed at all. She nodded and said, “Xiaoyun, I need your help with something.”
Xie Lingyun replied, “Please give your instructions, Uncle.”
With the sound of footsteps, a voice came through, “…I’ve had such bad luck today… Damn it, I finally managed to get three talismanic horses, only to have them beaten into a mess of flesh…”
A cold smirk appeared on Monier’s lips.
