Chapter 834: The Chaotic Merchant
It took a full three days for Su Che to display all his “local specialties.” The large glowing sphere across from him was extremely patient—being a being of the Chaotic level, it had an infinite lifespan and didn’t regard time as a constraint.
“Very good!”
After viewing them, it expressed great satisfaction and said to Su Che, “I never expected that someone so young as you could bring so many specialties to trade with me. Moreover, your universe seems quite rich in resources.”
Su Che nodded silently, becoming even more convinced that a being who had wandered through the chaos for countless years wouldn’t care about so-called chaotic treasures but would only be interested in the local specialties of various universes. After all, it couldn’t enter other universes, so to obtain such things, it could only exchange them from travelers like himself.
So, what could he get from it in return?
Su Che didn’t ask further. He had never done such a transaction before and had no idea how to speak or act—so he let it take control of the deal.
“Now, it’s my turn,” said the glowing sphere. “But I don’t know what kind of items interest you. Can you give me a general range?”
Su Che nodded and displayed his two magic artifacts: Wealthful Treasure and Demon-Slaying Spear. He said, “I’m only interested in things that can enhance my strength. In my home universe, there are many people stronger than me who pose a threat to my life. That’s why I’m wondering if there’s any way to increase the power of these two artifacts.”
“Of course!”
The sphere replied without hesitation. “Please forgive my rudeness, but I must be honest—your two protective artifacts are quite limited in power. At this level, I wouldn’t even take them. So, there are many ways to enhance the power of such items… I hope you don’t mind me saying this?”
“It’s fine,” Su Che said with a smile. “I’m actually glad to hear that. It means you truly have ways to strengthen my self-defense capabilities. Otherwise, I’m still quite weak, and many things in this chaos could pose a threat to me.”
“Very well,” replied the sphere. “How do you hope to enhance their power?”
Su Che first pointed at Wealthful Treasure. “This is my defensive artifact. I hope to improve its defensive capabilities because I rely on it to travel through the chaos and explore those unknown cosmic spaces.”
Then, pointing at the Demon-Slaying Spear, he said, “This is my offensive magic weapon. I hope to use it to penetrate the enemy’s defenses, without having to worry about it being taken away by them.” Since Su Che didn’t know what kind of dangers he might encounter in the Chaos, he could only put forward a general request. As for how to strengthen these two magic weapons, he believed this experienced Chaos-level powerhouse surely knew what to do.
“I understand,” said the light sphere. “If you’re sure and willing to trade your special items with me, then give them to me.”
“I’m sure!” Su Che replied without hesitation and handed over the Wealthy Treasure and the Demon-Slaying Spear.
When two completely strangers make their first trade, one party must take the initiative to show trust. If both sides are skeptical, a deal is unlikely to be struck. As the weaker party, Su Che felt he should show the proper attitude.
Swish! The Wealthy Treasure and the Demon-Slaying Spear were absorbed into the light sphere’s body. It might be used to strengthen them, or it might trick them and never return them to Su Che. Of course, Su Che thought the latter possibility was very small.
A powerhouse who roamed the Chaos as his marketplace and had seen countless Chaos treasures—hadn’t he said that he wasn’t even bothered to pick up something as ordinary as the Demon-Slaying Spear?
Suddenly, the light sphere asked, “The time it took you to show me your special items—how long was that in your universe’s time?”
“Three days,” replied Su Che.
The light sphere responded, “Strengthening these two magic weapons will take ten times as long, that is, thirty days.”
“No problem,” Su Che said with a smile. No one would mind just thirty days.
The light sphere added, “During this time, I’ll recommend some other types of items to you. After all, based solely on the value generated by strengthening these two weapons, I don’t think you can get much in return for them.”
“Okay,” Su Che said sincerely. “It’s clear you must be the most trustworthy Chaos merchant. It’s truly an honor to meet you.”
A smile identical to Su Che’s appeared on the light sphere as well. “Good reputation is the most important thing for a merchant, in every universe, isn’t it?”
“Indeed,” nodded Su Che.
Swish! A flat crystal, about two feet square and resembling a mirror, emerged from the light sphere and floated slowly toward Su Che.
After taking it, Su Che immediately understood that this crystal tablet was actually an inventory list. Holding it in his hands, he could freely browse through all the items listed inside. The images displayed were not visual but mental images; without the need for any language specific to a particular race, one could fully understand the detailed information related to each item—its name, size, functions, attributes, origin, the energy required to control it… and even any side effects, all listed in great detail. Su Che casually flipped through a few items and found that one of them had more information about side effects than about its functions—over ten times more. There was even a polite warning at the end: “Please do not choose it unless necessary!”
Lao He laughed from the Immortal Prison, saying, “It’s really rare to find a merchant who values credibility so much in our universe! Are all the wandering merchants in the Chaos like this?”
“Who knows?”
Su Che found it quite novel as well, but he didn’t want to talk or ask too much about it. Doing so would seem highly rude and might also give the other party an impression that the merchants in his own universe weren’t very trustworthy… As the saying goes, family secrets shouldn’t be exposed—it’s better not to say anything, otherwise it might make them doubt his credibility.
There was plenty of time, and the number of treasures listed was countless. There was no need to rush while browsing slowly. The light sphere across from him remained silent and unconcerned about time, never pressing Su Che to hurry.
“This is good,” Su Che thought to Lao He. “Look, this Chaos Transmission Stone can be used to establish a coordinate point in the Chaos, allowing one to enter other universes. If faced with an insurmountable danger, one can activate this stone to instantly leave that universe and retreat to the pre-set coordinate point in the Chaos…”
“Indeed, it’s great,” Lao He nodded. “It’s a super treasure for escaping danger. Though it’s a one-time-use item, it can save your life at critical moments.”
“Exactly!” Su Che agreed in his mind. In fact, he wanted many of the treasures he had seen earlier and wanted to buy them all.
After a while, Su Che said cheerfully, “Lao He, look—this pair of wings can increase flight speed several times over, with the exact multiplier varying depending on the race. The side effect is that it requires life energy to function; the more life energy used, the faster the speed… We have plenty of life energy, so we don’t mind its greedy demands.”
“It’s good, sure.” Lao He scratched his forehead and muttered softly, “But why do you always prefer these things for escaping? Is our situation really that dire?”
“Haha…” Su Che smiled inwardly. “You’re right. Let’s take a look at something else.”
Su Che and Lao He kept flipping through the list of treasures, but there was one item they definitely had to buy: the Chaos Map drawn by the Chaos Merchant himself.
Chaos was its marketplace. Over countless years, it had encountered countless travelers, and the map recorded the exact locations of thousands of universe worlds.
It also detailed which areas posed threats to Chaos travelers of different strengths and which universe spaces were unsuitable for certain types of travelers.
With this map, in the future, when Su Che traveled across Chaos, he could not only avoid unnecessary detours but also evade dangers in advance and learn about the characteristics of other universe worlds…
The value of this map was truly immeasurable, surpassing all other treasures.
Thirty days passed in the blink of an eye. The light sphere returned the vast wealth and the Demon-Slaying Spear to Su Che. It was unclear how it had enhanced these two magical artifacts, but when Su Che held them, he could sense a huge change—even their appearance had changed significantly.
However, it was still uncertain by how much their power had increased. Only by testing them in battle against opponents could they find out.
Before Su Che could express his gratitude, the light sphere said, “In addition to these two enhanced artifacts, you can choose eight more items from the list.”
“Only eight?”
Su Che was stunned. On this list, he had picked many treasures he wanted.
“Yes,” replied the light sphere. “The special products you showed can only be exchanged for ten items.”
Su Che nodded blankly and thought to Lao He, “Look, they’re not fools. They surely know that these so-called special products we showed are worthless, just in larger quantities.”
“True,” Lao He muttered. “With their experience, it’s almost impossible to take advantage of them. They’ve traveled through Chaos for countless years—what kind of things or situations haven’t they seen?”
Despite knowing this, Su Che still felt quite disappointed. He didn’t know what else he could offer to satisfy them and get more of the treasures he desired.
The celestial artifacts in our universe would surely be dismissed by them; the so-called top-grade materials are no match for those created by chaos. Moreover, since they don’t even bother to pick up treasures of this caliber like the Demon-Slaying Spear, what could possibly arouse their interest?
