Chapter 61
A few people with good physical strength were at the front, stopping about five meters away from Xie Wendong, panting heavily and saying, “Damn it, you forgot that fast. You can’t have forgotten hurting Brother Wu and two others at Xin Qingnian, right?!”
They were from the Soul Reclaiming Gang! Xie Wendong cursed inwardly, took two big steps forward, and smiled, “So it’s because of this trivial matter. I thought…” Before he could finish, he rushed forward in an instant, appearing right in front of the man who had spoken.
The man only saw a dark shadow flash before him, then felt his wrist grabbed, his neck twisted, and after that, he lost consciousness.
Xie Wendong quickly snatched the knife from the man’s hand, waved it to knock him out—everything happened in one smooth motion. It wasn’t until the man fell to the ground that the others reacted, swinging their knives at Xie Wendong.
Xie Wendong laughed heartily and raised his knife to block them. “Clang! Clang! Clang!” With both hands gripping his knife, he deflected the three incoming knives. The force sent him several steps back. Realizing they were going all out, the blood in his veins boiled.
Taking advantage of the distance between them, he quickly pulled out a shirt from his suit, tore off a strip, and tied it under his nose to cover his mouth. His eyes turned icy. Not giving the approaching group a chance, he charged at the three men.
One of them saw him coming and swung his knife. Xie Wendong blocked it with the blade, pushing back slightly to deflect the force. Then, maintaining his momentum, he moved closer to the man and slashed across his chest. Blood splattered on Xie Wendong’s face, but he didn’t have time to check if the man was dead as two more knives came from the left and right.
Xie Wendong quickly bent down, darted under the arm of the man in the middle, pushed him toward the man on the left, and rushed at the one on the right, thrusting his knife straight at the man’s neck. “Ah!” The man screamed in fear, instinctively tilting his neck to avoid the strike. Seeing the knife miss, Xie Wendong immediately swung sideways with force. “Slap!” The two-and-a-half-inch-wide blade slammed hard into the man’s face. Though it wasn’t the blade edge, it still made stars appear before the man’s eyes, leaving him confused as he stumbled back several steps and fell to the ground.
Xie Wendong stopped pursuing and turned to deal with the man on the left. That man had been charging at Xie Wendong but was instead knocked into by his accomplice. Fuming, he pushed aside his companion covered in blood, only to see a pair of blood-red eyes just a foot away. The man was stunned for a moment.
Though it was just a moment, it was enough for Xie Wendong. He raised the corner of his mouth and thrust the knife into the man’s abdomen. The man foolishly looked down and saw half of the blade inside his stomach—no blood, no pain, just a tingling sensation.
The knife had no blood groove, so Xie Wendong pulled it out without difficulty. He brought his face close to the man, looked into his empty eyes, and said, “It seems you really like this knife!” Then, gripping the handle with both hands, he pulled the knife back while kicking the man’s body with his foot.
A gush of hot blood sprayed onto Xie Wendong’s face and body, turning the white cloth over his mouth blood red. The man collapsed to the ground, clutching his abdomen.
Everything happened too quickly. By the time the others arrived, all four of his accomplices were lying motionless on the ground. A man in his twenties or thirties stopped about three meters away from Xie Wendong and gritted his teeth, saying, “Xie Wendong, you won’t get away alive today!”
Although Xie Wendong had easily defeated those four earlier, only he knew the danger he had faced—sweat beaded on his forehead and back.
There were still over twenty of them, slowly closing in on Xie Wendong, intent on surrounding him.
How could Xie Wendong not understand that if they surrounded him, there would be only one outcome? He shouted, “How do you know my name? Who told you?” As he spoke, he stepped back.
“Hehe! You don’t need to know!” The man sneered viciously and yelled at the others, “Go at him! Kill him to avenge Brother Wu!”
The twenty-some men rushed forward, wielding knives and sticks. Xie Wendong inwardly groaned in despair—he wasn’t a god; how could he defeat so many people? But he wasn’t someone who gave up easily, as long as there was a sliver of hope.
Xie Wendong swung the knife in his hand, fighting while retreating, never giving them a chance to surround him.
He pushed the skills he had learned and experienced in fights, along with the concepts of Tai Chi, to their limit. His body moved like a loach, swiftly dodging their attacks; like a leopard in the darkness, he struck deadly blows at the slightest opening, retreating after each strike regardless of whether it landed, avoiding entanglement.
In this back-and-forth struggle, they fought for nearly five hundred meters. Several men lay sprawled on the ground, hit by Xie Wendong, groaning from time to time. The leader was furious, shouting loudly. How could dozens of them not defeat a single opponent, only to have that opponent knock out eight or nine of their own? How could he explain this back to the gang? He roared, “Damn it! Haven’t you guys eaten? There’s only one of them, and you still can’t take him down? Give it your all to finish him! I’ll chop anyone who doesn’t try!”
Hearing the giant’s shouts, these men gritted their teeth and intensified their attacks. Xie Wendong felt the pressure multiply; his stamina was at its limit, and his wrist holding the knife had gone numb from the opponent’s attacks, leaving him unable to feel anything, merely mechanically gripping the handle. His will gradually faded, and at that moment, Xie Wendong even felt like laughing—how could his own hero end up in such a situation? He wondered what Sanyan, Li Shuang, and the others would say if they knew. Just as the giant thought Xie Wendong was about to give up, sirens were heard in the distance. Both sides heard them clearly, but with different reactions. Xie Wendong was overjoyed; it was the first time he had missed this sound so much. The members of the Soul-Reclaiming Gang, on the other hand, were furious—seeing their efforts about to be ruined, how could they accept it? The leader, especially, was panicked and shouted, “Damn it! The police are coming! Even if we get caught, kill Xie Wendong first! Someone from the gang will rescue us! Give it your all!” But Xie Wendong’s fighting spirit flared up again. With a “haha,” he roared, “Come at me!” This time, Xie Wendong didn’t run either. Some unknown strength supported him as he fought back against his opponents. The battle was filled with the sounds of metal colliding, shouts, and screams of pain. As the fight intensified, over a dozen police cars stopped by the roadside, and dozens of officers rushed out. A middle-aged man with two stripes and three dots on his shoulder held a megaphone and shouted, “Everyone, stop! We’re the police! Put down your weapons!” The gang members had already seen the police approaching. Seeing them coming their way, a few timid ones scattered, while the rest stopped fighting. The police, seeing the gang members still holding weapons, drew their guns and shouted, “Drop your weapons! Raise your hands above your heads!” Under the threat of guns, the gang members quickly threw down their weapons and raised their hands high. The police rushed forward, pressing the men to the ground without hesitation, using batons on those who resisted. A few officers noticed another man standing there, covered in blood, his knife stained red. They immediately aimed their guns at him and ordered, “Throw down your weapon!” It was Xie Wendong, who had been fighting hard. Hearing the police’s shouts, Xie Wendong wanted to throw down his knife, but his fingers were numb and uncontrolled. He could only hold the knife and raise his hand, smiling bitterly. “Officer, I can’t control my hands!” As he spoke, Xie Wendong slowly turned around, facing away from the police. The officers exchanged glances, shook their heads, put away their guns, and pressed Xie Wendong to the ground. They tried to take his knife, but he held it too tightly, and despite their efforts, they couldn’t move his fingers.
At that moment, a female police officer came over, glanced at Xie Wendong on the ground, then at his hand holding the knife, and said to the other officers, “It’s okay. Forcing it will break his fingers. His fingers are just temporarily numb; they’ll be fine once the blood flow returns.”
“Xiao Peng, this can’t be right. What if he uses the knife to attack? Look, he’s the only one with blood all over him…” one of the officers protested.
The female officer smiled and said, “It’s fine as long as we put handcuffs on him.” She then knelt down and tore off the red cloth covering Xie Wendong’s mouth (the white cloth had turned bright red from the blood). Seeing his face in shades of white and red, she couldn’t help but laugh.
Xie Wendong was pinned to the ground, his consciousness fading due to exhaustion. When the female officer knelt down, he could faintly make out her appearance—she was beautiful, a blend of boldness and modern femininity that made his heart race. Before losing consciousness, his eyes slowly drooped, a smile on his lips as he murmured, “White!” Then he fainted.
Her voice was soft, but the female officer heard it clearly. Her face turned red instantly. She quickly stood up, awkwardly pulling down her skirt, and glared at Xie Wendong, who was now unconscious but still smiling.
The female officer’s face was red with embarrassment. She stamped her foot and pointed at Xie Wendong, telling the officers nearby, “Take him to the hospital!” Then she walked away quickly. The officers hadn’t heard what Xie Wendong said and were confused by her angry departure. They wondered what was wrong with this rare beauty in the police force—something seemed strange about her. Not understanding, they shook their heads and carried Xie Wendong to the car to take him to the hospital, still holding that blood-stained knife in his hand.
