Chapter 182

He drew his gun at incredible speed, in just the blink of an eye, not even a second. Ma Feng handled guns with the same proficiency as Xie Wendong handled knives. He had no idea how many years he had spent practicing drawing his gun, but he was confident about it. The moment Xie Wendong’s eyes moved, he knew the other man was doomed.

He raised his hand to shoot when suddenly he realized Xie Wendong had disappeared—or rather, someone else had taken his place. Although this person wore the same clothes, his face and build were definitely not Xie Wendong’s. Ma Feng’s eyes widened in disbelief. But the man didn’t give him another chance; he raised his gun and fired straight at Ma Feng’s chest.

Hit by the bullet, Ma Feng stepped back and muttered, “You’re not Xie Wendong!” The man sneered, “I’m not. My name is Golden Eye!” Ma Feng wanted to ask what was going on, but the strength left his body as blood flowed from his chest wound, and he collapsed. As his head hit the ground, he saw another person lying there, with long, thin eyes smiling at him. Only then did Ma Feng understand everything—Xie Wendong couldn’t transform; there were two of them. While Ma Feng was bending down to draw his gun, the other man had crawled to the ground. Xie Wendong got up smiling, approached Ma Feng, and said, “My gun isn’t as fast as yours, indeed!”

Ma Feng twisted his mouth, unsure whether it was out of pain or a bitter smile, and weakly said, “But I’m not as smart as you, nor as lucky.”

Xie Wendong nodded. “So you have to die.” He sighed and added, “I didn’t want to kill you originally. Your brother Ma Wu once helped me a lot.” Ma Feng’s face twitched in pain as he said, “But you still killed him.” Xie Wendong replied helplessly, “It was for one person. Your subordinates said I was narrow-minded, and they’re not wrong. I’m a man who holds grudges. You shouldn’t have hurt Qiu Ningshui—she was kind to me. And you certainly shouldn’t have colluded with the Soul Group; they are enemies of mine.”

Ma Feng sighed and said, “The only mistake I made was not killing you in the Golden Triangle.” Xie Wendong shook his head and laughed. “Do you think the general would let you kill me? You can kill others—they mean nothing to the general. There are countless gangs in the world that want to connect with the Golden Triangle. In the general’s eyes, those bosses are less than ants. That’s why he looked down on you back then. But I’m different. I’m far more important than those bosses. Even if you could hurt me back then, you still wouldn’t be able to leave the Golden Triangle.”

Ma Feng stared at Xie Wendong for a long time, sighed, and closed his eyes. Jin Yan stepped beside Xie Wendong and whispered, “Brother Dong, let’s settle this with him!”
“Mm!” Xie Wendong nodded, his expression unreadable. Jin Yan raised his gun to Ma Feng’s head, about to fire, when suddenly two people rushed out from the bushes by the road—one older, one younger—both in police uniforms, armed with guns, shouting, “Don’t move! Police!”
Xie Wendong frowned, thinking, Oh no, why did the police show up now? He quickly pulled out his ID from the Political Department and said, “I’m from the Political Department; we’re on the same side!”
The two police officers exchanged glances, then slowly approached Xie Wendong. After taking a look at his ID and scanning him from head to toe, the younger officer suddenly fired a shot at his back. The force was strong, and it happened so suddenly that Xie Wendong was unprepared. Every time he showed his ID from the Political Department, whether it was police or soldiers, they would treat him with great respect. He never expected it to fail this time. He took two steps forward and fell to the ground. Before he could get up, the officer stepped forward and pinned him down, sneering, “What Political Department? I’ve never heard of it.” Seeing this, Jin Yan was shocked. He didn’t want trouble since the police had arrived, so he put his gun away. But now that Xie Wendong was in trouble, it was too late to pull out his gun again. The older officer pointed his gun at his head and said coldly, “If you dare move again, I’ll blow your head off.”
Lying on the ground, Xie Wendong narrowed his eyes and asked, “Aren’t you police?”
The two of them laughed and said, “We are indeed police, but we’re also friends of Brother Ma.” Ma Feng lay on the ground, his lips blue and his face pale, but he still managed to force a smug smile and said, “Don’t you think about it? My influence in Kunming is huge. How could there be few acquaintances in the police force?”
Xie Wendong shook his head with a bitter smile. He had been too careless, or rather, he had underestimated Ma Feng too much. Ma Feng’s breathing grew heavier as he said weakly, “Brother, kill Xie Wendong and take me to the hospital. I think I’m about to die.” The older officer grew anxious, quickly took out handcuffs to cuff Jin Yan, then swung his arm and punched him hard in the stomach. Jin Yan cried out in pain, bent over, and glared at the officer with hatred. The officer, feeling uneasy under his gaze, stepped forward and kicked him a few more times, shouting, “Kid, what are you staring at?”
After kicking him a few times, the older officer was out of breath. He helped Ma Feng up from the ground and said, “Brother Ma, I’ll take you to the hospital.”

Ma Feng shook his head. The severe pain in his chest nearly knocked him out. Gritting his teeth in agony, he said, “No, not yet. Kill Xie Wendong first. I have to see him die before I can feel at ease.” He was truly terrified of Xie Wendong. Having been on the verge of death this time, he was even more wary of him, so he preferred to waste time rather than go to the hospital and still wanted to see Xie Wendong die first.

The young police officer laughed, waved his hand, and slapped Xie Wendong across the face. Smiling, he said, “Hey, Ma Ge, just this little brat scared you like this.” Ma Feng looked at Xie Wendong, who was pinned to the ground by the police officer, his face still red from the slap. With a bitter smile, he said, “You control him now. He’s like a sick cat. If he gets away, he’ll turn into a man-eating tiger that will devour you without even spitting out your remains. Hurry, kill him!” The police officer chuckled and said, “Okay, today I’ll turn that tiger into a dead one!” With that, he drew his gun and aimed it at Xie Wendong’s head, slowly pulling the trigger.

Jin Yan was extremely anxious. Despite being handcuffed, he struggled to get up. At the moment the police officer pulled the trigger, he suddenly rushed at him.

With a “bang!” a gunshot rang out. The bullet passed by Xie Wendong’s temple and hit the ground. The police officer was thrown far away by Jin Yan and took several steps back before he could steady himself. Just as he raised his head, Jin Yan was already in front of him. Although his hands were handcuffed behind his back and he couldn’t move them, his feet were free. He kicked the police officer’s gun away with his leg and leaned forward, using the knee of his other leg to press against the police officer’s abdomen. The young police officer groaned in pain, clutching his abdomen as he fell to the ground. Jin Yan, like a madman, kicked wildly at both the police officer’s face and body. Another gunshot sounded, and Jin Yan’s body trembled before he collapsed.

This shot was fired by the older police officer. The bullet hit Jin Yan in the chest. Everything happened so quickly that by the time he reacted, his companion had already been knocked down. In his panic, he didn’t even aim properly and fired at Jin Yan. Seeing him fall, not knowing whether he was dead or not, he wanted to step forward and shoot again when someone rushed to his side. With lightning-fast speed, that person delivered a hook punch to his chin. The police officer cried out in pain and staggered back several steps. It was Xie Wendong, who had just gotten up from the ground. Before the police officer could steady himself, Xie Wendong rushed forward again, throwing punches at the older police officer like rain. The older man, in his forties, couldn’t withstand such attacks and soon lost consciousness.

The young police officer, kicked violently by Golden Eye, somehow managed to stand up unsteadily, picked up his pistol from the ground, and fired at Xie Wendong. Xie Wendong staggered and slowly fell to the ground. The young officer gasped for breath, spat out blood, and limped toward Xie Wendong. Ma Feng was now almost frantic—things were changing too fast, with many twists and turns. Fortunately, their side had the upper hand, and Xie Wendong was also shot and fell to the ground. He said in a deep voice, “Brother, what I said earlier was right, wasn’t it? Xie Wendong isn’t an ordinary person; he’s not that easy to deal with. Go check if he’s dead.”

The young officer steeled himself. Whether Xie Wendong was dead or not, he would fire a couple more shots just to be safe. He walked up to Xie Wendong, who was crawling on the ground with blood at the corners of his mouth. With a cold laugh, he hesitated no longer and was about to shoot Xie Wendong in the head when a gunshot came from afar. The young officer felt numbness in his wrist as his pistol slipped from his hand. Looking down, he saw a blood hole in his wrist.

What accurate shooting! He was shocked inwardly, his expression changing drastically. He no longer cared about Xie Wendong’s fate, nor could he attend to his unconscious companion. He picked up Ma Feng and ran into the grass, disappearing in an instant.

Although Xie Wendong had been shot, he was still conscious. His bulletproof vest had saved his life once again. He managed to lift his head and look in the direction of the gunshot. A person was walking down the empty path—a woman, and a very beautiful one at that. Xie Wendong was familiar with her and was surprised. He thought to himself, Could it be her who shot? This woman was the assassin known as the “massage girl,” whom Xie Wendong had captured twice but released both times. She used to be Ma Feng’s subordinate, but why would she shoot her own side? Had she mistaken someone? But judging by her shooting skills, her eyesight couldn’t be that bad. Xie Wendong couldn’t figure it out, so he stopped thinking about it and watched to see what she intended to do.

The woman first went to Golden Eye to check his injuries. She took out a handkerchief from her pocket to cover his wound, then tore a strip from his clothes to bandage it. After finishing, she came over to Xie Wendong. Seeing him staring at her, she blushed and said, “You must be very surprised, right?”

Xie Wendong replied calmly, “Do I have any reason not to be?” The woman sighed and said, “With your methods, you captured me twice but didn’t kill me or… well, I’m also surprised.” Xie Wendong narrowed his eyes and smiled, then sighed, “Women should stay away from gunpowder and gunfire. Fighting is just a man’s game; it shouldn’t involve women. Besides, I don’t like killing the weak.”

The girl’s expression changed as she said, “I didn’t expect you to still be a staunch supporter of machismo. Yet you killed my sister-in-law with the cruelest methods.”
Xie Wendong sighed helplessly and said, “That’s what Ma Feng owes me! One must take responsibility for their actions. Since he did it, he should have thought about the consequences and been able to bear them. I was just collecting a debt.” The girl replied coldly, “You can go after Ma Ge for what he did. What does it have to do with your sister-in-law?” Xie Wendong sneered, “If anyone’s to be blamed, it’s her for being Ma Feng’s woman!” The girl raised the gun and pressed it against Xie Wendong’s head, shouting, “You’re really a scumbag!”
Xie Wendong’s expression remained unchanged as he said calmly, “That’s the rule of the game. Here, life isn’t important.”
The girl said, “It’s not hateful for a person to make mistakes, but it is hateful when they refuse to repent after doing so. Although you spared me before, do you really think I wouldn’t kill you now?” As she spoke, her finger slowly moved toward the trigger. Xie Wendong smiled upward, startling the girl, who didn’t understand why he was laughing. While she was stunned, Xie Wendong suddenly grabbed her wrist holding the gun and flipped her onto his lap, saying with a smile, “It’s a shame you missed such an opportunity.”
Pressed under him, with no space between them and even able to feel his heartbeat, the girl’s face turned red as she turned away.
Xie Wendong was just bluffing. The gunshot had numbed half of his body, leaving him extremely tired. He slowly leaned his head against her neck and whispered, “I hope you can do me a favor and take my injured friend to the hospital.”
Feeling the warm, moist breath on her neck, her face turned even redder and her heartbeat quickened. She blamed herself for being interested in such a person and snapped, “Now you’ve won again. Can’t you take your friend to the hospital by yourself?!” She wasn’t sure whether she was angry at herself or at Xie Wendong—probably more at the latter. Why get so close to someone like him for no reason!
