Chapter 575: Accidental Information
“There’s really no snacks at home. Just eat something casually.” Kai Xin found a few small bags of red ginger and the snacks that Ji Mu San Lang usually brought from his bedroom and placed them on the dining table. “Xin, pour some hot water.”
Kai Xin noticed that as he put the snacks on the table, Xu Yao’s eyes immediately fixed on those small packs of red ginger, but she said nothing.
“Wow, I didn’t expect Xin’s boyfriend to be so considerate. Xin, make sure to tell me if you ever break up with him.” It seemed only then that Xin’s friends felt closer to her.
“What are you thinking, you crazy girl?”
“But what kind of snacks are these? Alcohol-flavored sunflower seeds? Peanuts? No cotton candy?”
“You just had a meal—do you still want more?”
“Whether I like it or not…” The women teased each other, “Take it back to show off.”
Kai Xin deliberately turned his gaze outside, but out of the corner of his eye, he saw Xu Yao get up, fill a cup with hot water from the dispenser, add some red ginger, and hold the cup—her tension and unease fading significantly.
“What’s this? It’s red—looks delicious.”
“It’s red ginger water. When my mother gave birth to me, she lost a lot of blood and seemed to have some health issues. The elders said eating this could replenish energy. When I was young, I was weak, but just smelling the red ginger water made me feel better. Eventually, I got used to it.” Xu Yao held the cup, speaking while inhaling the fragrance spreading from it.
Of the four girls present, except for Xin, all were observant. They could tell Xu Yao seemed much more energetic than before, and they showed concern and sympathy upon hearing this.
But when they turned their attention back, they saw Kai Xin staring blankly out the window, seemingly lost in thought. They wondered, “What a coincidence—Kai Xin actually has red ginger here.”
“Yeah, I’ve never seen you bring it out before, nor have I seen you prepare snacks for Ji Mu San Lang.” Xin still didn’t realize anything and stared at Kai Xin curiously.
“…If I don’t want to eat it, I won’t. It’s rare for this young master to be generous once in a while.”
Kai Xin’s words knocked everyone off their feet.
“A few packs of snacks and you call it generous? You stingy billionaire, that’s unfair!”
“Right! Take him back to school for criticism! Hmph! With so many beautiful girls visiting you, this is such a low standard of hospitality.”
“Exactly, exactly.” Xin snickered secretly.
Xu Yao silently held her cup, her face showing a smile, but she was puzzled—why would a boy’s bedroom have things like red ginger stored there?
“Xin, have you washed the dishes? Come help out,” Kai Xin reminded her nonchalantly, unimpressed by external things. Xin exclaimed, “Ah, I forgot the water was still on,” jumped up from the sofa, and rushed into the kitchen.
“Be careful, don’t break anything,” Kai Xin muttered. Sure enough, a loud crash of broken dishes and Xin’s scream came from inside.
Whoosh!
Several women stared at Kai Xin as if she were a monster.
“Good things don’t work; only the broken ones do. Go ahead and eat. I’ll go check,” Kai Xin said, feeling anxious, and hurried into the kitchen.
Xin frantically tried to pick up the broken pieces on the floor. When she saw Kai Xin enter, she got distracted, and a shard cut her finger, causing bright red blood to flow immediately.
“Be careful.”
Anxiously, Kai Xin rushed to Xin’s side, ignored caution, grabbed her hand, and held it under the faucet to clean the wound. Then she went to the bedroom to find a bandage and carefully wrapped it around her finger.
“Why is it shaped like this?” Xin asked, blushing, pointing at the two strips on her finger.
Kai Xin replied instinctively, “This shape is more noticeable, reminding others that your hand is injured so it won’t be accidentally touched.”
“Should we add a heart-shaped bow? You two are so cheesy,” several women and Xu Yao, who had somehow appeared outside the kitchen, teased, looking at Kai Xin busy with the wound and Xin’s red face with envy.
“Xin, are you okay?” Xu Yao, far more humane than the other women, stepped forward to check Xin’s injury but immediately focused on the bandage on her finger.
The bandage wasn’t wrapped in a straight circle but in a cross shape, making it look like a red scarf. Xu Yao was stunned.
“Sis Yao Yao, do you think this shape is strange too? Kai Xin said, ‘This shape is more noticeable, reminding others that your hand is injured so it won’t be accidentally touched.’ Don’t you think it’s strange?”
Holding up her injured finger, Xin deliberately imitated Kai Xin’s tone, looking very playful.
“Okay, stop showing us your heart-shaped bow. We know you two are very affectionate. We’re leaving.”
“Oh, okay. Go ahead. I’ll clean up first.”
“No, let me do it,” Kai Xin sighed helplessly. “You’re injured. If I keep letting you work, who knows how many people will come to bother me tomorrow.”
Hearing this, the women all showed expressions of “as expected” and “you’re sensible.”
Xu Xin waved her already bandaged finger and said, “The bandaging is good; I’m fine now.”
“I said I didn’t need it. I’ll do the dishes.” Kai Xin skillfully rolled up her sleeves, not noticing that Xu Yao, who had been watching Xu Xin’s wound, also caught Kai Xin’s unique way of rolling up her sleeves—first three turns, then pulling it up.
It seemed…
How could it be… so similar!
Xu Yao finally realized that they shared so many similarities in everyday life. And Kai Xin always having red ginger on hand—was that also a coincidence?
Her mind was in chaos. She stood there dazed, not hearing what the others were saying, before leaving that secret base surrounded by the women.
…
Inside the house, after Xu Yao and the others left, Kai Xin washed the dishes while reflecting on her behavior that day, letting out a soft sigh. In the end, she couldn’t resist taking out the red ginger and accidentally showing Xu Yao the bandage on her wound. Thankfully, it was just a detail; Xu Yao probably wouldn’t notice anything.
Unaware of this, Xu Xin had quietly swept the broken dish shards into a bucket with a broom and then stood behind her, admiring the bandage on her finger like a tie, her face showing a rare faint blush and a hint of pride. Then she crossed her arms and watched Kai Xin wash the dishes intently!
…
After leaving, Xu Yao felt extremely conflicted. Back at campus, her phone vibrated several times before she answered it. A deep voice came through, “Why did it take you so long to answer… By the way, did you gain anything from visiting Kai Xin today? Does she have any plans for the near future?”
“…”
Xu Yao remained silent for a while, lowering her head to inhale the scent of the red ginger water in her cup before lifting her bright face and saying, “We didn’t talk about anything related to the game.”
