Chapter 294: Radishes, Rabbits, and Falling Rain
“Dragon-seizing hand, skillful in capturing dragons—not bad!”
Hearing this pleased response, Rong Bo stroked his beard in thought before nodding with a smile. “Not bad. During the time you were away from the sect, you haven’t neglected your skills. You’ve lived up to the young lady’s expectations.”
“With Rong Bo and the young lady’s guidance, how could I dare to slack off?”
His tone shifted, and Happy looked at Rong Bo with slight embarrassment. “But there’s one thing I need to apologize for to both of you.”
“Oh? What is it?”
Rong Bo wore a kind smile, his amiable expression leaving the Murong clan’s disciples in awe. They thought they must be dreaming—how could the usually stern old butler be so friendly to a player? What was going on?
“Two months ago, the clan ordered us young ones to escort a cargo to the capital… But we lost it after just half a day…”
“Oh, such a trivial matter.”
Rong Bo shook his head and chuckled. “They’ve already told me. That little thing? Our Murong clan can afford to lose it. Besides, the clan didn’t have high hopes for you guys anyway. It was just an experience for you youngsters. As for the lost face? Hmph, you’ll have to find it back on your own from now on…”
“Understood, Rong Bo.” Happy also felt relieved that this matter was settled.
“Go to the backyard to see the young lady. She’ll be happy to hear you’re back.” Waving his hand, Rong Bo turned without hesitation and shouted at the newcomers standing nearby. “What are you doing? Watering the flowers or bathing them? Idiots!!”
“…Why are you standing there like an idiot? Do you think you’re the emperor? Go get water now!” Under Rong Bo’s scolding, the newcomers burst into tears—such a huge gap, such unfair treatment!
Happy walked toward the backyard with a faint smile, familiar with the path, drawing attention from many male and female disciples who began to chatter.
“Who is he?”
“Why haven’t I seen him before?”
“I don’t know…”
“Maybe he’s one of the first batch of Murong disciples.”
“Ah? I heard those people have become quite famous now…”
As a few female disciples passed by Happy, murmurs came from behind.
Happy paused slightly.
Ever since leaving Gusu City, he hadn’t been in touch with Ximen Qing, Little Li the Windy, nor Guijianchou, He Shiyi, and the others for a long time…
He wondered how they were now. Who was in control of Gusu City now? The Tianba Sect? Or the Longhu Sect?
With various thoughts in mind, Happy went to the backyard where the rabbits were kept. The environment remained as tranquil as before, except that the person taking care of the rabbits was now a young girl wearing a snow-white dress. She was trying to feed a large white radish into the rabbit hutch, but the rabbits ignored her completely, staying curled up aside. Occasionally, one would hop around, yet they also showed no interest in the large radish she kept offering.
The girl was clearly a novice; her arm ached from holding the radish, and she hadn’t managed to feed a single one. Disheartened, she pouted and muttered in a childish voice, “Who said rabbits like radishes? They’re all liars!” Annoyed, she threw the radish aside in protest.
At that moment, someone knelt down beside the girl and gently placed a carrot into the rabbit hutch while tapping the ground. The girl turned her head, staring wide at this unexpected visitor.
Instantly, the fluffy little rabbits in the hutch became active, as if sensing their favorite scent or still remembering their former caregiver. They rushed out of the hutch, competing to hold the red carrots, chewing away quickly and adorably on the carrots that Happy kept handing them.
“Amazing,” the girl exclaimed in awe.
Happy looked puzzled. “Who told you rabbits like white radishes? You should feed them carrots. Eating white radishes can cause stomach problems. Also…” She dug at the grass nearby and said skillfully, “Grass and vegetables shouldn’t be given randomly, especially to little rabbits—it can make them sick. They should eat these, along with some plain water, not cold water…”
“Wow! Senior, you’re so amazing!” By the time Happy finished speaking, the carrots in her hand had been eaten up by the rabbits. The girl’s eyes shone with excitement; she almost regarded Happy as her idol!
But her next words shocked Happy! “Senior, you must have often been punished by the steward for feeding the rabbits before, right?”
“Punished?” Happy was confused. When had the tasks of the inner disciples become punishments?
The girl, on the other hand, gave an air of understanding. “That old steward is really mean. He always yells at people. Just for making a small mistake, he sent me here to feed the rabbits. I still can’t do it well, and he doesn’t even teach me martial arts…”
“…” Hearing the girl’s complaints, Kai Xin once again felt torn between laughter and annoyance. After all, being transferred to the inner sect was an opportunity countless outer sect disciples dreamed of but could never obtain. This kid had gotten lucky by entering the inner sect, yet still had so many complaints—how utterly insensitive.
Never mind.
For the sake of his junior sister, he would give her some guidance.
“From now on, feed the rabbits according to what I say. If you take good care of them, someone will naturally teach you martial arts. Understand?” Kai Xin also revealed his own plan.
The girl nodded repeatedly, showing she had remembered:
“I understand. Thank you, senior brother. By the way, my name is Yu Luo. What’s yours?” After saying her name, she prepared to ask the mysterious senior brother’s name.
At that moment, the third daughter of the Murong family, like a fairy descended from the heavens, appeared gracefully in the corridor across from them. Her gaze shifted to Yu Luo, then stopped on Kai Xin:
“Are you back?”
“Yes.”
“Come with me.”
Miss Murong’s words were concise, yet each one was smooth and melodious, sounding like celestial music to the ears.
The girl Yu Luo clearly recognized Miss Murong as well. She immediately fell silent, looking at Kai Xin and then at Miss Murong, feeling like an outsider who dared not speak up.
But after Miss Murong entered the room across, seeing the mysterious senior brother walking away, she suddenly remembered she still didn’t know his name. Panicked, she grabbed her dress and chased after him into the corridor:
“Senior brother! Senior brother! What’s your name?”
“Kai Xin.”
With a smile over his shoulder, Kai Xin walked into Miss Murong’s room without looking back, leaving the girl Yu Luo standing there, frowning as she repeated to herself:
“Kai Xin?”
“What does that mean?”
“He’s happy because he thinks I can’t feed rabbits?” The girl’s expression changed instantly, from angry to sulky. She stomped back to the rabbit hutch, sat down with a huff, and muttered, “Hmph! Senior brother isn’t any better. I’ve never raised rabbits before—how would I know… Stop staring! Don’t eat the radish he gave… Here, take this one…”
She pushed the large white radish firmly in front of the rabbit, which looked innocent.
