Chapter 255: The Royal Tombs of Dayan, the Ninjas
The Royal Tombs of Dayan!
Though the name sounded impressive, for China, with its thousands of years of history and culture, there were countless imperial tombs from various dynasties scattered across the land. The Dayan Dynasty was but a minor ripple among them. Under such social circumstances, the royal tombs of the Murong family—a lineage still harboring aspirations to revive their nation—were destined to remain hidden and unrecognized by the current regime.
The Royal Tombs of Dayan… a place that had to be concealed in secrecy, where even the Murong family could not openly pay their respects!
……
“The surroundings here are quite nice.”
After two days of travel, the group led by Kai Xin had arrived at the Royal Tombs of Dayan ahead of schedule. The area was surrounded by lush bamboo forests, creating a serene and pleasant environment. Xiao Bei couldn’t help but express his admiration.
Lei Zhan also glanced around from his horse, enjoying the beauty of the bamboo groves and the refreshing breeze. He commented, “To use such a vast area for tombs is truly a waste of resources.”
Kai Xin didn’t respond.
Since entering the bamboo forest, he had sensed something unusual in the atmosphere. Through the subtle shifts in energy, he could clearly feel that unseen eyes were watching them.
But…
He didn’t reveal this right away.
It wasn’t his first time at the Royal Tombs of Dayan; he knew everything about this place better than anyone else.
The horse’s hooves moved slowly, its lowered brows occasionally sweeping over the shaded areas of the dense bamboo. With a disdainful snort, it continued onward at the same pace, leisurely making its way forward.
Swish… rustle…
The sound of clothes brushing through the air and the crunch of footsteps on bamboo leaves reached their ears faintly.
Xiao Bei and Lei Zhan finally noticed something. They tensed up instantly, scanning cautiously in the direction of the sounds. Out of the corner of their eyes, they saw a vague dark figure disappear behind a cluster of bamboo not far away.
The same sounds arose again.
As they turned their heads repeatedly, similar dark figures appeared in several different directions. They moved at incredible speed, and a faint glint of cold steel could be seen.
“It seems we’re surrounded, haha…”
Lei Zhan laughed rather than panicking. He calmly drew his sword from behind, holding it in reverse grip, his gaze scanning the bamboo forest with fierce determination, clearly eager for action.
Over these two days, they had traveled non-stop for two full days. In his words, his muscles and bones were about to rust; if he didn’t find a place to stretch out properly soon, he might even forget what the opening move of the “Wuji Sword Technique” was.
At the same time, the two zombie puppets also leaped to the ground from behind Xiao Bei. Their auras were now more solid, and their physical strength had improved as well. They landed silently, their heads covered by masks that hid their repulsive faces, standing quietly on either side of Xiao Bei like two silent messengers of death.
It was after being controlled by Lu Mingyue’s puppet and almost forced into a kiss with a zombie that Xiao Bei began to equip his own puppets with these masks—probably because he was truly disgusted by that experience.
A few seconds later… the mysterious dark figures lurking deep in the bamboo forest finally revealed their true forms. Amidst a series of strange, urgent commands, more than a dozen dark figures rushed out from behind the bamboo all around, each holding a Japanese sword with their hands behind their backs, dressed in full black ninja gear with black masks on their heads. They moved in steady, quick steps, advancing at astonishing speed toward the three of them.
“Damn!”
“Ninjas?!”
Xiao Bei and Lei Zhan’s expressions changed slightly. Amidst their cries of shock, Lei Zhan immediately activated his protective barrier and soared high into the air to confront the ninjas ahead.
The two zombie puppets raised their heads, carrying a foul stench, and charged headlong at the ninjas…
“Damn you, little Japanese devils!”
Xiao Bei spat and darted out from behind the zombie puppets. His shiny black claws struck one of the ninjas in the back, tearing through the ninja’s black outfit and leaving several dark bloodstains.
Lei Zhan was even more fierce! With his protective barrier active, he withstood the sword attacks of eight ninjas without any damage, not retreating even an inch. He swung his “Wuji Sword Technique,” causing the first six ninjas to stagger back as if struck by lightning, revealing horrifying wounds on their chests—Lei Zhan had also learned the “Wind Spirit Spin”…
One after another, the two men and the two zombies drew all the attention of the surrounding ninjas.
Kai Xin remained completely unfazed, still sitting on the back of Ti Ying. From his vantage point, he watched the two fighting groups ahead without the slightest expression change:
The Great Yan King’s Tomb, though merely the tomb of an ordinary emperor in history, was a treasure trove of wealth, culture, and weapons for the poor and backward Japanese. If they could successfully open the tomb and smuggle its contents back to their island, it would be of immense significance!
The Murong family also discovered by chance that a group of fully armed foreigners had sneaked into this place and even entered the king’s tomb.
For this reason, the Murong family was furious!
If it weren’t for the imperial court’s close surveillance of the Murong family and its recent use of the eight major families to suppress them, the Murong clan could have simply sent any skilled warrior to wipe out those reckless pests completely.
Yet…
For the sake of the Murong family’s legacy, skilled warriors could not be deployed lightly, nor could the imperial court discover the hidden imperial tombs of Great Yan. If the Six Gates or the Eastern and Western Factories found them, the Murong family might face the doom of having its entire clan punished.
Thus, the Murong family thought of their eldest disciple, “Happy”!
Recently, Happy had gained a reputation in the martial world, but not yet enough to draw the attention of the elite warriors in the imperial court or organizations like the Jinyiwei. Therefore, “Miss Murong” ordered Happy to rush to the location of the tombs immediately and capture those Japanese invaders who coveted the wealth hidden in the Murong family’s tombs!
In his past life, Happy had never received such an order and naturally didn’t know that this was actually a key mission for the Murong family. In the past, they always followed the Shaolin forces to hunt down the invaders; only now did he realize there was such a hidden layer to it.
After some contemplation… Happy gained a deeper understanding of this mission.
It seemed that only he had been assigned this task. In that case, it must be a secret mission of the Murong family!!
This could explain why no one had revealed any details about the imperial tombs of Great Yan in his past life. At this thought, Happy felt relieved once again.
Besides receiving rewards from the tombs, it seemed he would need to return to the Murong family after completing this mission. With this thought, Happy’s gaze returned to the two squads of ninjas.
In a short time, nearly half of the sixteen ninjas had already been killed. These guys, whose strength was only at the Creation Realm level, were merely the lowest-ranking members among the ninjas, assigned to act as sentries outside.
It was inside the tombs that the real battlefield lay!
