Chapter 50: Orc Killer (II)

“A shaman priest? Has the orc chief gone mad? Why send a shaman as a vanguard? Could there be some other purpose?”
Donald was deeply puzzled. What he didn’t know was that the orc chief had sent a priest precisely because of him.
Hundreds of orcs had died mysteriously, yet only a few of their souls returned to the orc god totem used in the ritual. This phenomenon disturbed the old shaman.
Since the fall of the orc god, the shamans of various tribes drew most of their power from the ancestral spirits within the totems worshipped by their tribes. These ancestral spirits grew stronger by absorbing the souls of dead orcs—more souls absorbed meant a more powerful totem. This was the core secret of orc shaman priests. Aside from the elder-level shamans of the Bronze rank and above, even the chiefs of various tribes were unaware of the details.
If the humans developed a method to prevent orcs’ souls from returning to the orc god totem on a large scale, the already unstable situation of the orcs would collapse as the shamans lost their source of power.
Thus, no matter how one looked at it, the old shaman couldn’t simply ignore this incident; he must uncover the true cause. Even if he couldn’t resolve it himself, he had to report it to the council of elders and the high shaman.
As for soul-related issues, only orc spellcasters like shamans could investigate them, which was why a junior priest was sent to explore. The other warriors were there to protect the shaman.
Even without considering morale, the combat strength of fifty elite orcs could rival that of three hundred regular human soldiers—enough to ensure the safety of the shaman priests.
However, the old shaman hadn’t accounted for Donald as a variable.
With the Book of Truth in hand and sufficient energy, Donald wasn’t afraid of any number of enemies. He assessed his own power and found it enough to deal with this orc group.
The creatures he had summoned earlier hadn’t reached their deadline: fourteen night elf archers, four troll headhunters and six troll shaman-healers, along with six level-two monsters, lightning lizards, and two level-three units, female hunters.
In previous battles, their side had ambushed the enemies, so aside from a few minor injuries to the summoned creatures, they had been lucky enough to suffer no losses at all, saving Donald some magic cores.
To ensure he could eliminate the entire orc group in one go, Donald readily drew out his magic core bag and summoned six human witches and two magic disruptors.

Although both of these summoned creatures are only level 2 units, the Witch can be considered the most elite support caster among the four major races in Warcraft. Whether it’s slowing down enemies, using invisibility spells, or shape-shifting, she wields powerful spells to restrict enemy movements and create favorable conditions for her own side.

The Magic Destroyers, on the other hand, are units designed to deal with enemy spellcasters. These noble Night Elf warriors possess unique and powerful spell-stealing abilities, can control enemy summoned units, and have two extraordinary traits: magic immunity and magic feedback. When attacked by enemy spellcasters, they are not only immune to all magical damage but can also drain the target’s mana during the attack, inflicting damage equal to the mana consumed.

With these two units in control, neither the elite Orc warriors nor the enemy spellcasters and shamans can fully unleash their true strength. With other units leading the assault, Donald is 90% confident he can wipe out the enemy completely.

After arranging everything, Donald led his troops to ambush in the direction the Orcs were advancing, while owls in the sky kept watch over the enemy’s movements.

The wait was long. After a meal’s time, the Orc army finally entered the range of the Night Elf archers. However, Uther did not order an attack right away, as the Elf archers in his own army had the greatest range, and the other summoned units could not match their long-range firepower. It was necessary to wait until the enemy reached a location suitable for most units to attack, so as to concentrate all long-range firepower and achieve the greatest results in the first assault.

But Donald’s plan could not be carried out perfectly. As a spellcaster, although his profession differed, the psychic sensing ability of shamans and priests was not much inferior to that of mages. The young shaman in the Orc army sensed something was wrong not far from the ambush site.

The young Orc shaman gave a shout, and the enemy army stopped at the edge of the ideal ambush location. Seeing this, Donald realized his original plan had to be abandoned; he had to launch an attack immediately, otherwise, giving the enemy time to react and form a defensive formation would put his side at a disadvantage.

So Donald simply stepped forward boldly to draw the Orcs’ attention.

Seeing a human alone waiting ahead, many orcs showed cruel and bloodthirsty expressions. The orc shaman, whose wisdom was on par with that of ordinary humans, immediately thought there must be an ambush—otherwise no human would dare face powerful orcs alone. So the shaman ordered the group to stop advancing and planned to send two warriors to investigate first.

At that moment, Uther, hidden behind Donald, waved his hand at the two magic disruptors and six witches beside him, and magic light was instantly emitted from their hiding place.

“Enemy attack! Enemy attack!”

As the magical waves were detected, chaos erupted among the orc group. They quickly reacted, and several orc axe warriors rushed forward in pursuit of the attackers.

“Kill all humans!” Led by the leading orc warriors, these axe warriors shouted loudly what they thought in their hearts, charging forward with all their strength at the enemy forces.

In the eyes of the orcs, humans had always been a weak, cowardly, and inferior race. Despite human soldiers often forming neat formations on the battlefield, once the brave orcs charged, those timid creatures would flee in panic.

Back then, even without weapons, powerful orc warriors could crush human skulls with sticks just by hitting them!

But this enemy was different from all previous humans. The orcs’ experience was completely useless. More than a hundred orcs split in half—half to protect their noble shaman, while the rest charged at the enemy together. Though their momentum seemed terrifying, Donald’s summoned warriors remained calm, their expressions unchanged, their bows and spear tips not trembling at all, waiting for the orcs to come to them so they could slaughter them.

“Roar!” The orcs charged at the enemy from afar, holding their axes in front of them, hoping to block the enemy’s arrows and break through their defenses.

However, before the leading orc warriors could take a few steps, they encountered an invisible force, causing their pace to slow down significantly, as if in slow motion.

The slowdown of the leading axe warriors meant the orcs behind them couldn’t stop in time and crashed into their comrades, tumbling everywhere and turning the formation into chaos.

“Kill!”

At the same time, seeing the enemies in chaos due to the witch’s slowdown spell, Uther, as the commander, naturally wouldn’t miss such an opportunity. He immediately ordered the ranged warriors led by the elf archers to take action, firing their attacks at the orcs in large numbers. In the blink of an eye, dozens of orcs were hit.

Fortunately, orcs were strong-minded; aside from a dozen or so who were hit in vital areas and suffered serious injuries, the rest could still get up and continue fighting.

However, losing a dozen comrades before even reaching the enemy was an unprecedented blow to the orcs, especially since the enemy seemed to be the usually weak humanoids. This made many orcs hesitate, filled with both anger and fear!

The orc sorcerer reacted quickly, preparing to cast a spell as soon as he was attacked. But he wasn’t fast enough against Donald’s well-prepared ambush. As the witch’s slowdown spell took effect, the two spellbreakers already stole the mana from their innate spells and unleashed it against the shaman.

Before the young orc shaman could cast his spell, he noticed a significant loss of mana in his body, causing his unfinished spell to dissipate. Thankfully, it was due to insufficient mana that no backlash occurred; otherwise, he would have damaged himself severely before even attacking, losing the ability to resist.

As he prepared to cast another spell, a few seconds later, the young shaman’s mana was completely drained. He waved his wooden staff uselessly, unable to cast a single spell. Faced with this sudden turn of events, the orc shaman screamed in terror, hastily tearing off one of the three beast skulls hanging around his neck. Muttering words, a spelllight flashed within the skull, ready to attack the spellbreakers.
