Chapter 744: The Twin Snakes of Order
As an inevitable existence in the multiverse, the River of Darkness carries the time and fate of the lower realms. This was a plan the Will of the Abyss had long sought to carry out but failed to accomplish—only for Donald to seize the opportunity and take control of this mighty force.
Under the influence of the River of Darkness, impurities in the universe no longer accumulate at the bottom of the endless abyss for long. They are quickly purified into opposing energies that rise to the top of the universe, then evolve into various substances and energies, forming a perfect cycle.
Previously, the accumulation of abyssal waste had been a plague for the multiverse. Now that this problem has been alleviated, it naturally earned the recognition of the Will of the Universe, which granted it the power to permeate the entire universe.
As the master of the River of Darkness, even when Donald is not present there, he can always draw upon the power of a supreme god bestowed by the river.
His avatar deep within the River of Darkness can wield the formidable strength of a near-supreme god—though only within the river’s domain. Yet, this already makes him one of the most powerful beings in the multiverse.
Among the series of major events that have occurred in the multiverse since the Division of Heaven Mountain, this is perhaps the one that has shaken the gods the most.
With the official dissolution of the Alliance of the Three Glorious Gods, over a dozen city-states in the main world broke away from the Land of Dawn, Sendel, and its glorious alliance. This outcome was welcomed by the various forces on the main world’s continents.
As the effects of the split among the three glorious gods spread throughout the universe, Donald’s avatar on the River of Darkness sailed downstream aboard a ghost ship, traversing most layers of the abyss. He gathered much first-hand information little known even to the gods, then drifted to the mysterious region of the Mad Sky Tunnel, where he even encountered the figure of an old friend.
The Mad Sky Tunnel is likely the most desolate place in the outer planes. Located at the bottom of the universe, it is a strange world filled with numerous twisted underground tunnels intertwined with one another. Howling winds fill this place, and it intertwines with the bottom of the abyssal world—seemingly one entity yet also like two separate worlds.
These tunnels range from tiny paths too narrow for a person to pass through to ones that are almost infinitely large.
However, regardless of their size, there are almost two common traits: First, gravity here exists merely to cause outsiders unaccustomed to the environment to crash into walls in the shortest time possible. Second, the wind here is filled with eternal wails.
This is now the final part of the River of Darkness as it flows through the universe.
“This place really isn’t very welcoming to outsiders.”
On the ghost ship, Donald removed his cloak and looked ahead—as if he had just experienced a war, surrounded by an atmosphere of terrifying doom and disaster. Loki, the god of doom, who stood there quietly, smiled and said, “If not, I wouldn’t be here either!” Indeed, there are many realms that are hotter, colder, or have more cruel inhabitants than the Chaotic Void Tunnels, but when it comes to loneliness and madness, this place is truly unique. In this world that resembled both a birdcage and an endless cave, howling winds rushed around, as if countless mouths were shouting loudly. The violent hurricanes here emitted wails at an unbelievably loud volume, scattering most magical energies and making it difficult for spellcasters to complete their spells. Only those with power beyond legendary levels were not greatly affected. It’s easy to imagine how difficult life here must be. Only a few reclusive and peculiar beings considered this place suitable, and it’s likely only they in the entire universe would think so! Accompanied by cries that seemed to stem from extreme pain under the suppression of the supreme gods’ powerful forces, and the echoes brought by occasional breezes, Loki threw a glimmer of light onto the ghost ship. Donald reached out, and as divine light surged, he picked it up—only to find it to be something like rotten wood or burned stone pillars, devoid of any powerful aura. Yet the symmetrical patterns that seemed to form an endless cycle proved it was a mysterious material, at least of a rank beyond ordinary immortality. “This is…” Donald showed a mix of confusion and surprise. He sensed a familiar and powerful force within this material—a force that directly influenced certain laws of reality. Even though what was here was the incarnation of the River of Death, the fluctuations of this force traveled through the connection between the incarnation and its true form, reaching the true body of the faith god. This immediately shocked Donald. “I retrieved this from the edge of the chaotic spacetime at the bottom of the Chaotic Void Tunnels. I believe it will be of great use to you—probably equivalent to a high-tier artifact!” The chaotic spacetime, filled with storms of time and space, is the area closest to the Cosmic Crystal Wall. It’s a dangerous zone formed by spacetime storms leaking from outside the wall, deadly for beings below the level of supreme gods—even supreme gods could perish there if they weren’t careful.
Hearing Loki say he had gone to such a place for his own sake, Donald felt deeply moved. Yet most of his attention was drawn to the materials before him. With a trembling voice, he said, “If I’m not mistaken, this must be the foundation of the universe—the remnants left after the Fall of the Twin Serpents of Order. I never imagined you, Loki, could obtain such a supreme artifact; its value far exceeds that of an ordinary divine weapon.” Order and chaos are two sides of the same coin, just like the Yin and Yang theory in his past life. All universes begin as swirling masses of chaos. When it’s time for change, two powerful forces of opposing yet intertwined rules emerge, establishing the basic order of the universe and bringing order out of chaos, from which other laws arise. These two powerful forces resemble beings with their own wills and are commonly known as the Twin Serpents of Order. One could say they are the creators of the universe; some cosmic civilizations give them other names, such as Pangu and Nüwa in his past life’s PanGu mythology. Just as order and chaos are one, so too are the Twin Serpents of Order, born from order and chaos as the creators of the universe. These two oldest entities in the universe embody the duality of order; they work tirelessly together to shape themselves out of the endless chaos. In Mayan mythology, they represent the two initial circular shapes that interlock to form an infinite loop, constituting the basic framework of spatial dimensions. In ancient legends, even the gods considered them mythical: one of these cosmic serpents has wings and feathers, dedicating itself to goodness, while the other has scales and a forked tongue, embracing the path of evil darkness. Yet despite their differences, they were the original founders of cosmic order and the strongest representatives of the universe’s will. But as the universe developed, the disputes between the two ancient serpents grew increasingly fierce—one wanted order and evil realms to hold supreme status, while the other desired order and good realms to do the same. Thus, ignoring their common goal of maintaining cosmic order, the serpents began to fight each other. Their battle shook the foundations of the cosmic realms; one rose upward to the upper realms, while the other fell to the depths. As a result of this struggle, they separated, and their bodies formed the initial outlines of heaven and hell.
The force of the explosion formed the inner boundaries of the universe’s core and the material world at its center, giving rise to the initial gods and demons.
There are also legends saying that although the bodies of the Order Serpents died while promoting the development of the universe, their wills did not perish. They still exist in some unknown corner of the universe, maintaining the balance between order and chaos.
These remnants of the Order Serpents, which remained intact and did not become part of the universe’s structure, are incredibly rare and precious to any being.
They can be said to form the foundation for higher gods and even supreme deities. Any higher god would guard them tightly and never expose them, yet Loki handed them over to Donald so easily, as if they were just ordinary divine artifacts.
Although, per their previous agreement, Loki was supposed to find something of equal value in exchange for Donald’s Book of Doom to advance his own path, the value of these remnants far exceeded that.
Especially for Donald, a true god dedicated to the path of order, these remnants were far more precious than the Book of Doom—a higher-tier divine artifact. It could be said that not only did it repay Loki’s favor, but it also left Donald feeling he owed him even more.
However, there was no need for much talk between them. Donald simply threw the Book of Doom at Loki and immediately sent the remnants of the Order Serpents to his true body via the River Styx, to avoid any further complications.
Since the King of the Undead, Oscar, had obtained a portion of the evil essence and could use it, along with the laws of death, destruction, and slaughter, to comprehend the Truths of Doom, Donald could naturally also grasp the power of the Truths of Order from these remnants.
Moreover, the evil essence was merely the laws left behind by the evil serpent among the Order Serpents, which was of a lower rank compared to the true remnants of the serpents.
Donald not only gained more power of order but also found great use in these remnants. After integrating them into his own divine artifact, the Whip of Order—a powerful intermediate artifact used to subdue gods and maintain order—it was instantly elevated to a higher-tier divine artifact.
This was Donald’s fourth higher-tier divine artifact, in addition to the Book of Truth, the Book of Fate, and the Book of Doom. Such an experience was likely unique in the entire history of the multiverse—perhaps without precedent, at least unmatched.
Donald, who created the Mantra of Order, has reached a highly advanced level of mastery over the laws of order. He can become an upper god at any time and join the most powerful beings in the multiverse, free from too many concerns and able to follow his own path unhindered.
