Chapter 740: The Insect Prince Obakos
Since most demon lords were busy resisting the invasion of the Allied Forces of Justice and failed to notice the actions of the King of the Undead, and the Lady of the Dead, Vinsari, who controlled the largest part of Thanatos, fled without a fight, Oscar easily regained control of Layer 113 of Thanatos.
Among the three great powers, Eustachius was tied down in the Bone Wasteland of Layer 9, the God of Orcs, Ughesh, was preoccupied with his own affairs, and Grant lost control of Thanatos due to the betrayal of his son, Yasas. At this critical moment when Oscar was unifying Layer 113 and striving to become a supreme god, Grant had no effective strategy to counter him.
Controlling an abyssal plane and obtaining a virtual divinity granted by the Abyssal Will was not as quick as truly striving to become a supreme god. Oscar had once been one of the abyssal giants, and now that he had regained his power, he wouldn’t go through a novice adaptation period. Thus, Grant wouldn’t risk unnecessary trouble.
After all, Ughesh faced the threat of destruction; even if he managed to escape, his strength would decline. Therefore, the Abyssal Will was pleased to see Oscar return to the abyss.
For the abyss, all demons, even demon lords, were merely tools to be used—without any emotions involved.
With the Allied Forces of Light currently in the spotlight, Grant certainly didn’t want to throw himself into danger and suffer heavy losses.
This was understood by the Fallen Lord, as well as Donald, who was keeping an eye on the King of the Undead.
Due to Donald’s interference, the King of the Undead’s thousand-year plan failed, costing him the Book of Doom, the Source of Evil, and the downfall of his most powerful avatar. Only the Staff of Death could be recovered. One could imagine just how intense the King of the Undead’s hatred toward him was.
However, Oscar’s reclamation of control over Thanatos was a fait accompli. All Donald had to do was create some obstacles when Oscar tried to go further.
In his view, as long as the King of the Undead hadn’t truly broken through the limits of a supreme god, he posed little threat.
It wasn’t that Donald was arrogant—it was simply because his own strength was overwhelming.
If Donald himself wasn’t worried, then the Fallen Lord, who had no ties to the King of the Undead, certainly wouldn’t worry either.
Since returning to the heavens, Matthews had made smooth progress in transforming his divine authority.
Guided by Donald’s advice, Matthews abandoned his former domain of the sun and chose to follow the path of twilight and decline.
Dusk does not merely represent the setting of the sun; in terms of the laws of existence, it is quite similar to the End. Both are supreme laws of termination. However, Dusk refers to the process by which all things move toward their end, while the End is the result of that termination, which is very similar to the relationship between the other two supreme laws of termination: slaughter and destruction. Slaughter is the cause for things to be destroyed, while destruction is the result; the two are inseparably linked. These four supreme laws of termination have not been categorized by the gods’ system in the multiverse, and the deities associated with Dusk and the End have never appeared. Donald believes this may be because this universe is still in its early stages of development, so no one has yet been able to reach the pinnacle of these four supreme laws of termination. But in the universe where the former owner of the Book of Truth lived, it had reached its peak of prosperity and was approaching its twilight years. Thus, these four supreme laws of termination were highly renowned in that universe; mastering one of them could elevate one’s status to be on par with the three great gods. The power of these laws of termination lies in their aggressiveness, surpassing even the most fundamental laws, granting them immense destructive power. Even peers would be subdued by them, and even higher gods could be overthrown by their force. Since these laws target the very essence of all things, even large planes or entire universes will eventually face their end, unless they are supreme gods who have transcended time and fate. By the time the War of the Abyss broke out, Matthews’ transformation into a deity was almost complete—he was just short of forming the deity of Dusk. But due to the outbreak of the war, Matthews did not rush to take the final step but paused to prepare for action at the critical moment. After all, his accumulated power was already sufficient, and with the additional strength from Donald’s true form arriving later, he had a 90% chance of ascending to the rank of a higher god, which would cause a tremendous upheaval. The birth of a higher god could stir up a storm in the Pantheon and throughout the multiverse. If Matthews ascended at that time, he might not be able to witness the outcome of the battles in the lower realms. After all, Ivan, the Lord of Dawn, out of concern for the Fallen Monarch, would surely stop attacking and instead guard the heavens to defend against Matthews’ invasion. Matthews, who had a good grasp of the overall situation, would naturally not do something that could alert his opponents prematurely.
Donald was well aware of Matthews restraining himself. Since he had agreed to the Light Lord’s request, he naturally had to cooperate with Matthews to complete the task.
One day had passed since the Three Gods of Light began besieging the Orc God Kingdom. No matter how strong the realm’s barrier was, it could not withstand the repeated attacks from millions of heavenly troops and over twenty true gods. Now, the barbarian kingdom was on the verge of collapse. Once the barrier was broken, the Orc pantheon would be like meat on a chopping board, at the mercy of others.
Of course, the Orc pantheon would not sit idly by. On the second day of the siege, reinforcements arrived.
These reinforcements were not demon gods or evil deities, but a forgotten ancient demon lord—a strange scorpion made of dark shadows, covered in carapaces.
As soon as this mysterious ancient demon lord appeared, it attacked a true god with its venomous stinger. Clearly, the toxin on its stinger was extremely deadly. The righteous true god felt a shadow shoot toward it, instantly turning completely black. Then, the divine power and core that composed its body began to burn violently, and it turned to ashes before it could even react.
This was the first true god lost by the Light Alliance in this battle. Even if it was only an avatar, it still dealt a severe blow to this lower-tier deity.
No one knew how the God of Orcs had contacted this ancient demon lord. Even long-lived demon lords like Grant had only vague memories of him.
So when Obakos appeared outside the 18th layer of the Barbarian Kingdom, it truly shocked all the powerful beings present.
Seeing the appearance of this ancient demon, the Fallen Lord showed some reaction. Donald asked, “Such powerful toxicity. Does Lord Matthews recognize this ancient demon lord?”
Matthews nodded and said, “It’s Prince of the Insects, Obakos. In ancient times, when ancient demons ruled the Bottomless Abyss, he once held the title of Demon Prince. After he was killed by the Chaos Aftermath, that title was given to Miskka, the wolf spider, lover and general of the Azure Night.”
“Is that the Miskka who’s currently locked up in the Chaos Fortress in the Mad Sky Tunnel?”
“That’s right! As far as I know, although Obakos was killed by the Mother of Demons, as one of the most powerful ancient demons, he managed to save one of his most powerful divine forms and hid in a place called Shadow Void, deep in the 663rd layer of the Bottomless Abyss.”
Donald looked at the shadowy form of the insect prince Obakos and nodded, saying, “It seems this ancient demon monarch has regained much of its strength. Its attacks possess the power of a higher deity, posing a significant threat to the Light Alliance. However, as a shadow demon without a physical form, it is restrained by the power of light. If only this insect prince comes to its aid, the Orc Godhood will still not escape defeat!” Donald’s speculation was accurate. Obakos had lurked in the Shadow Void of the 663rd layer—a place filled only with shadows and no real existence—for countless generations. Not long ago, having regained some of its power as a higher deity, it dared to emerge from its hiding place to see what the Abyss had become without it. As it turned out, a new demon had taken control of the Abyss, and it had been forgotten. Coincidentally, at that time, the dictator Ughesh was collecting cosmic impurities in the deepest mysteries of the Abyss and encountered this ancient demon monarch, thus forming an acquaintance with Obakos. The insect prince had a primitive and violent nature, while Obakos, as an ancient demon, was one of the oldest demon lords. Even though its strength was far less than before, it constantly sought to restore its power. Moreover, it aspired to attain the status of a deity. Like many other demon lords, Obakos was the king of the insects and controlled those who regarded him as a deity, which would greatly assist them in attaining divine status. Considering that its relationships with the existing ancient demons were no worse than friendship, while the new demon lords were all enemies, Obakos chose to ally itself with the Orc God, the new powerhouse of the Abyss. The Orc Godhood provided Obakos with faith power, while the insect prince served as Ughesh’s enforcer, stepping in to help when the Orc Godhood faced crises. Of course, this came at a cost—Ughesh had to pay a large amount of faith crystals as compensation and offer guidance to Obakos in the realm of true gods. After losing a true god, the leaders of the Light Alliance became furious. They unleashed the power of the Light Judgment through the powerful intermediate deity, the God of War and Judge Behistan. Although Obakos managed to dodge in time, it was still slightly burned by the light’s power, causing aizzling sounds in its shadowy body and causing the insect prince great pain.
Realizing that the power of the abominable True God present was mostly used to suppress his own radiant sacred domain, Obakos, though proud and reckless, was not foolish. His instinct for battle prevented him from continuing the attack; instead, he hid in the shadows of void, waiting for the next opportunity to launch a surprise strike. With Obakos, the prince of the ancient demon race, lurking in the shadows, the attacks by the Radiant Alliance against the barbarian lands were delayed. Due to the enemy’s formidable ability to launch surprise attacks and strength second only to that of the higher gods, most of the True God avatars accompanying them would be doomed if they encountered them. This delay allowed other reinforcements from the orc pantheon to arrive.
