Chapter 729: The Awakened Death God

Apart from the deity Nairou, all beings in the Kasseli realm are essentially forced to remain here. Unable to escape this prison, they dwell in sorrow and hatred toward everything.

The Corruptors of Kasseli reside on one of the five layers, depending on their varying degrees of rebellion. The Swamp of Sins holds politicians and traitors to their nations, while the Pit of Stench contains those who sold reason for beastliness. The Desert of Winds locks away hoarders who possess wealth but never help others, and the Peaks of Deceit house hypocrites who harm others with lies. Finally, the Sea of Ice is inhabited by shallow-minded individuals who crave opportunities to show off yet never offer aid to others.

Only the lowest layer, the Abyss of Death, is home to Corruptors who are eternally trapped and tormented, unable to move or make a sound.

Aside from the Corruptors, undead creatures, and a few demon priests, there are hardly any other beings in the Abyss of Death—this is after all the domain of the capricious Nairou, a place no living being wishes to enter.

It is the coldest and lowest layer of Kasseli, or rather, its innermost layer—the most crucial prison in the entire realm. It also possesses unique nested characteristics specific to this realm. But unlike the other five layers, the Abyss of Death consists of just one independent sphere: a black ice sphere with red patterns.

The air in the Abyss of Death is extremely cold and reeks of death, constantly inflicting harm on outsiders and beings of this realm by freezing and destroying their lives. This layer is also dominated by slight negative energy. Half of the Corruptors’ bodies are embedded in ice, and their lies are frozen over their lips.

When Asas and Thanobos appeared in the black ice wasteland surrounding the Abyss of Death, they did not disturb any beings in this layer.

“Aidimachus is imprisoned in one of the auxiliary rooms of the Hidden Palace, under the supervision of a wicked ally of my father—a powerful undead priest named Dark Milaku!”

As Asas spoke, his expression revealed a hint of resentment and self-regret.

Thanobos immediately guessed the thoughts of this fallen prince and chuckled, saying, “I know that guy—a necrotic lich. A wicked and powerful fellow, expert in all kinds of twisted tortures! It seems Aidimachus isn’t having an easy time after sacrificing himself to free you!”

Tanobos’s actions only served to add fuel to the fire. Upon hearing this, Asas glared at it fiercely before changing the subject and saying, “Although Dark Mirak is powerful, its true strength is still beyond ours. The challenge is to deal with Dark Mirak without alerting that Flesh Reaver!”
“Let me handle that problem! Every time Nairou falls into slumber, it takes at least a hundred years. As long as no living beings approach, it won’t be easily awakened. I can set traps outside its throne to block its perception of the outside world. At the very least, it will buy us enough time to escape after it’s disturbed!”
As an undead demon, a semi-immortal being, it could indeed conceal its presence as a living being. This made it very convenient to operate in the Land of Death, the Dead冥 -> Dead Abyss, without arousing much suspicion.
This was also the main reason Asas agreed to make this deal with Tanobos.
The space of the Dead冥 -> Dead Abyss wasn’t as vast as the previous five layers; it was only about the size of a small material plane. Yet for beings at the mortal level, it was already extremely large.
In such an extreme environment like the Dead冥 -> Dead Abyss, even legendary strongmen might not be able to hold out for long.
The largest area in the Dead冥 -> Dead Abyss was the City of Death, a black castle carved from ice.
This was the realm of Nairou, a deity once possessing great divine power.
Nairou was the God of Death, but it also had terrifying names such as the Flesh Reaver, Enemy of Kindness, Messenger of Darkness, and Howl of the Death Bell. It hated all living beings with blood and flesh, wishing to harvest their souls and trap them beneath its throne forever.
When Asas and Tanobos infiltrated the City of Death, they saw that frozen Prayersmiths covered the floors, walls, and ceilings of the city, just as they did in the ice outside.
It wasn’t Asas’s first time visiting this layer, so he wasn’t surprised. He was now in Tanobos’s Withering Domain, surrounded by the forces of death and negative energy. As a living being, his presence wouldn’t be detected by the beings here.
In fact, even if Asas revealed his demonic aura, it wouldn’t arouse much suspicion. Aside from those pitiful Prayersmiths, the creatures here were mostly undead and demons, so a demonic aura wasn’t particularly noticeable.
The residents of the City of Death usually stayed out of others’ affairs unless it concerned them.

Asasus, accompanied by Tanobos, passed through an abandoned corridor leading inside the City of Death and soon arrived at the spacious central hall known as the Hall of Concealment. All kinds of undead creatures lurked here. Lanterns made of noisy, hungry ghost souls floated around, emitting a faint green light that illuminated the area. Hundreds of agate altars were arranged in a circle around the hall, while the undead and demon priests continuously chanted hymns of praise to Nairou and carried out terrifying necromantic rituals. Besides the hymns, some bored demon priests spent countless hours conducting bizarre experiments on the necrotic flesh on the altars. “Nairou’s throne is right in the center of the Hall of Concealment,” Asasus said, pointing at the faintly visible outline of the building ahead. “There are several separate rooms around the Hall of Concealment. Some are used to house the demon priests, others to imprison captives destined to be bound to the agate altars or to become food for the hungry priests. There are also special domed rooms that contain relics sealed by Nairou’s followers. Believe me, you don’t want to go there—even for those demon priests who worship Nairou, it’s an extremely terrifying place!” Knowing that this lord of undead demons had never been a peaceful being, Asasus warned him in advance so as not to disrupt their plans. Tanobos waved his hand to show he understood, his eyes glowing fiercely as he admired everything in this City of Death—those buildings that seemed terrifying to mortals and the various undead creatures, which to him appeared like rare treasures. Asasus wasn’t surprised or suspicious of Tanobos’s behavior. After all, as a deity once at the level of a supreme god, even though Nairou’s power had declined, the rules alone in this City of Death were enough to make any being involved in the realm of death feel their journey was worthwhile. Just as Asasus searched for the target cell and Tanobos studied the rules of death here, both of them suddenly changed expression. A silent yet agonizing howl suddenly came from the center of the Hall of Concealment, shaking the souls of all beings in this layer of the City of Death.
