Chapter 695: The New Abyssal Giant
The process of transforming one’s divine role is a daunting task even for an ancient and powerful being like Matthews. After all, for those above the rank of mid-tier gods, changing their primary divine role requires extreme caution. If handled hastily, not only will the effort fail, but their divine rank may also decline, weakening their power. Therefore, before Matthews could fully transform his power, gods like Donald had to help buy time and resist the accusations from other gods.
When the Realm of Perdition crossed beyond the main world and ascended into the upper realms of void, some true gods could no longer remain silent and began to issue accusations within the Pantheon. Most of the gods in the righteous faction opposed the return of the Fallen Monarch to the celestial realm, given the immense influence—or rather, notorious reputation—of the three Abyssal Giants. After all, Matthews had done many outrageous things to establish his foothold in the abyss, causing chaos and bloodshed there. The righteous gods feared that the loss of one demon god in the Pantheon would be replaced by another powerful dark and evil god, threatening the balance of power among the gods.
On the other hand, the gods of the dark and evil faction, led by the Goddess of Night and the King of Lies, were very supportive of Matthews’ joining, expressing their welcome. In contrast, the three radiant gods, who led the righteous faction and firmly opposed evil, did not issue any statements this time, surprising many gods. Yet for those familiar with the radiant gods, this was quite normal and expected. After all, looking at the history of Ivan, the Lord of Dawn, this suddenly risen deity, though extreme in his early actions, had consciously maintained a glorious image since becoming a higher god, rarely speaking and preferring to orchestrate actions behind the scenes. This made it difficult for other gods to fathom the thoughts of one of the most powerful beings in the Pantheon, while also increasing their fear of Ivan.
Chatter among the gods in the Pantheon was intense—there had been no such excitement in a long time. Soon, the accusations from the righteous faction targeted Donald, the lord of the natural gods, as he clearly played a crucial role in the Fallen Monarch’s betrayal of the abyss and return to the celestial realm. In response to the criticisms from some righteous gods, a neutral god among their allies spoke up first. It was none other than Pompey, the God of Poets.
Although this lower-tier god was weak in power, he was renowned among the gods for his romantic and passionate temperament, never holding back in praising those he admired!
“Your Highnesses, you accuse the Lord of Nature’s Guardians of corrupt and evil actions. Then I have a question. Since His Highness Donald was still an mortal, he entered the Abyss and killed two of its lower lords. He later encouraged the demon lords to leave the Abyss and establish a hellish realm to divide its power, as well as helped the Fallen Monarch return to the celestial faction. Which of these actions harmed the interests of the upper realms rather than weakening the power of the Abyss?”
Pompey’s counterquestion left the gods who had been condemning him speechless. They surely couldn’t claim that it was the rise of the Nature pantheon that threatened their power and thus they took the opportunity to suppress them!
The ones making the most noise were merely some weaker gods from the faction of justice. They were just pawns, with the real masterminds not stepping forward so quickly. Didn’t the three major goddesses led by the Goddess of Magic, as loyal allies of the Nature pantheon, along with the Elven pantheon, take any action?
It wasn’t that they didn’t support Donald—it was just that the time hadn’t come yet.
After the God of Poetry spoke up in defense, Ashten, the God of Knowledge who always represented neutrality and fairness among the gods, also expressed his opinion.
“Regardless of the motives behind His Highness Donald’s actions, they have pushed the multiverse toward order. His series of actions have been listed by me as one of the most significant events affecting the multiverse’s structure in the past thousand years, recorded in history for future generations to discuss!”
With just one simple sentence, many true gods changed their stance and sided with Donald.
The clamoring true gods fell silent. They had originally planned to use the incident involving the Fallen Monarch Mathius to undermine the reputation of the Nature pantheon, but it backfired instead. From then on, they stopped mentioning the Nature pantheon altogether and focused solely on the goals of the Fallen Monarch.
By the time the Pantheon was arguing endlessly over the matter of the Fallen Monarch and finally decided to send representatives together to the Fallen Kingdom to gauge the attitude of these former three Abyssal giants, the Fallen Kingdom had already risen to the upper realms, on the edge of the neutral nations’ territory. It was located near the outer boundary of the starry void, stabilized by the nations of the Nature pantheon, forming a counterbalance to the Kingdom of Azeroth and occupying a vast area in the outer regions of the celestial realm.
Some of the true gods on the side of justice immediately sensed something ominous—could it be that the Fallen Monarch intended to stay put? Although Matthews had not made any official statements, his stance remained unclear. Yet most of the true gods on the side of goodness and those on the neutral side breathed a sigh of relief. As long as a powerful figure like the Fallen Monarch Matthews did not join the dark and evil faction, there was basically no threat to them. The gods who had initially favored driving Matthews away immediately changed their attitude. As for the true gods of the dark and evil faction, though they were disappointed that such a powerful being as the Fallen Monarch had not joined their side, they were at least relieved that Matthews had not joined the opposing side of justice. After all, Matthews had originally been a god of the justice faction! But before these representatives of the Pantheon arrived in the realm of the Fallen Kingdom, another major event shook the multiverse, drawing much of the attention away from Matthews and significantly reducing the pressure on him. Ughesh, the god of slaughter and war, head of the orcish pantheon, who had made no significant moves since his resurrection and had never even appeared in the Pantheon, now reduced his divine realm, the Barbarian Kingdom, to the Infinite Abyss and joined the ranks of the abyssal demons. The downfall of the Barbarian Kingdom not only made up for the departure of Matthews’ Fallen Kingdom but also added even greater strength to the Abyss. Ughesh, the dictator favored by the will of the Abyss and granted immense power, immediately rose from the rank of mid-tier god to a new high-tier god. This shocking move immediately caused panic and concern among the gods, diverting their attention away from the Fallen Monarch Matthews.
