Chapter 560: Raising the Throne High
After drawing a mass of structured power from above Penn’s head and channeling it into the phantom figure in front of him, Clinton promptly retracted the wooden board’s illusion. Having done this, he reminded the other three still-in-shock demi-god warriors, “Let’s go! If we don’t leave now, the members of the Church of the Three Glorious Gods will arrive!”
The three demi-gods finally snapped out of their daze. Elder Yin stretched out his hand and seized the traitor Penn, who had lost his legendary power, experienced extreme emotions, and was now in a state of mental chaos. He then pinned Penn under his arm.
Hawking, on the other hand, waved his hand to unleash the power of the illusion domain, erasing all traces of their presence there, leaving not even a hint of evidence. Only then did he set off with the others.
After leaving Firn City and joining forces with several strong members of the thief guild lurking outside the city, Clinton took out another ancient ring glowing with divine light. He said to everyone, “Gather around me! We’ll use the divine artifact bestowed upon me by my lord to teleport away!”
Seeing that Clinton had prepared a more convenient way to leave—far easier than flying—they were naturally delighted. This way, they wouldn’t be chased by demi-god warriors sent by Sendel once word reached them.
So, once everyone gathered, the ring in Clinton’s hand emitted a flash of light, activating its function. A divine glow enveloped the four demi-gods, the Chosen Ones, and the other golden-ranked warriors, who instantly disappeared from outside Firn City. Not even a trace of their presence remained within the range of the teleportation glow, with no spatial ripples spreading outward.
This was the power of a divine artifact.
Donald, fearing that Clinton might encounter strong members of the Church of the Dawn if something went wrong, had temporarily granted him the true divine artifact, the Gate of Indefiniteness, when he arrived. Although Clinton’s strength wasn’t enough to defeat the demi-god warriors of the Church of the Dawn, they were still enemies of Dalarn. It would be troublesome for him to escape, so leaving as soon as possible to avoid confrontation was the right approach.
Though it was only a lower-tier divine artifact with little offensive power, the Gate of Indefiniteness, which focused on the spatial domain, surpassed even mid-tier gods in terms of teleportation capabilities—unless one had profound mastery over the spatial domain!
With this powerful ancient artifact originating from the Babylonian pantheon of another universe, as long as they didn’t engage in direct combat with their opponents, it would be quite easy for Clinton and his group to escape! After returning to Fallen Thalassia using the artifact, Elder Hidden handed over the traitor Penn, who had already lost any chance of turning things around, to his subordinates. The demi-god warriors from the three major factions then invited Clinton, the chosen one of the Natural Guardian, to the most luxurious hotel in Fallen Thalassia. While entertaining this distinguished guest, they also discussed plans to collaborate with Dalaran to establish a teleportation network. Behind the three major factions of Fallen Thalassia stood three true gods: Shadow Magic City was under the followers of the Goddess of Night, while Rosenberg was ruled by a group of seasoned deceivers loyal to the God of Intrigue, Bansen. Both of these factions had powerful higher gods backing them, whereas the King of Shadows, Tord, behind the Thieves’ Guild, was merely a lower god, making him somewhat suppressed by the other two factions. However, the Thieves’ Guild possessed the most extensive intelligence network on the entire continent, and their God of Thieves had certain connections with the gods of the neutral faction, so their influence couldn’t be underestimated—either of the other two major factions wouldn’t go too far against them. Initially, the demi-god warriors of the other two factions had come to serve as witnesses only because of the true god behind Dalaran and the convenience of the teleportation network. Naturally, they also wanted to gain such opportunities given the wonders of the Law of Truth that had spread throughout the continent’s elite circles and the gods’ churches over the past few years. By forming ties with the chosen one of the Natural Guardian this time, they would find it easier to act in the future. Yet, after all, they were factions leaning toward evil, even outright evil camps. That’s why they hadn’t been invited to the last grand assembly. But now, seeing the immense power displayed by the chosen one of the Natural Guardian, they could tell just how powerful the true god behind him was. Coming from the ranks of the King of Lies and the Lady of Shadows, two powerful higher gods, their insights were naturally far beyond those of a lower god like Elder Hidden. They were deeply awed by Clinton’s ability to strip away domains so effortlessly! After all, even many true gods, even if they reached the level of mid-tier gods, might not be able to so easily take away a legendary domain from someone without harming them at all—even if that power originally came from the other party’s divine artifacts. Such an act required mastery of extremely high-level rule powers. It was undeniable that a true god with such talent had immense potential to become a mid-tier god!
What surprised the three demigods the most was that, despite having experienced it firsthand, when they tried to recall that moment, they could only remember the fact that the traitor Penn had had his powers in the realm of laws stripped away, but they couldn’t recall at all how Clinton, the true god’s chosen one, had done it. Therefore, upon returning, they immediately communicated with their respective true gods and reported everything they had experienced. To their surprise, even those three deities couldn’t figure out what method Clinton had used. Even the memories in the minds of the Elders were vague. This immediately piqued the interest of the three lords behind them as well! If someone could influence powerful demigods like the Sage of Shadows and the Elders, who had firm wills, and even the three mighty true gods behind them couldn’t uncover the truth through their subordinates’ memories, it was clearly not something ordinary power could achieve. This showed that the Natural Guardian truly couldn’t be underestimated! With the approval of their respective true gods, the three demigods naturally became even more eager to win over Clinton, the true god’s chosen one of Dalaran. Donald had already thought of this before sending Clinton to handle this incident. To prevent other true gods from investigating the process of obtaining the Essence of Laws and thus discovering the existence of the High Divine Artifact, the Book of Fate, he directly used the power of this artifact to disrupt all external observations related to it. Unless one possessed the same level of artifact power, even higher gods couldn’t uncover the secrets unless they saw it with their own eyes! As for why Clinton could so easily strip away the power of the Essence of Laws, the outside world only knew about the various benefits of this precious and immortal divine artifact, but they didn’t realize that aside from the benefits, there were also certain limitations to using it. First, the effect was best on the first use; on the second use, it only provided a boost in power without much additional benefit in the realm of laws. Second, since its “law seed” was formed through the High Divine Artifact, the Book of Fate, all beings who benefited from using the Essence of Laws were subject to the constraints of that artifact. If they tried to attack Donald and those associated with him, they would suffer backlash from the laws of that realm—minorly, they would lose part of their power; severely, they might perish or even become puppets of the Book of Fate.
If an ordinary strong person eventually becomes a demigod or even an actual god by reaping the benefits of the Law Fruit, it’s almost as if they’ve signed their true name in the Book of Fate, entering into a supreme contract with their soul imprint, thus falling under the control of the Book of Fate just like the 600 major gods of the Babylonian pantheon. This is simply a combination of the “List of Deified Gods” and the “Book of Life and Death” in a fantasy world! Of course, Donald isn’t planning to reveal the side effects of the Law Fruit. If his close allies benefit from it, he won’t harbor any hostility, but those with ulterior motives will have to face punishment! After Clinton, the Hidden Elder, and the three demigods returned to Fallen Tarrin to ensure the safety of their followers, Donald turned his attention away. Although an actual god can monitor the status of any believer at any time, especially those who possess some of his own powers, there’s no need to spy on their private lives unless necessary! Donald believes that with Clinton’s steady and adaptable cautious nature, he can handle cooperation with the three major forces, so there’s no need for constant oversight. He has more important things to attend to now! As for cooperating with the three actual gods behind the three major forces of Fallen Tarrin? Though Donald isn’t the kind to generalize from a few examples and doesn’t think all those in the dark and evil camp are irredeemably guilty, he also doesn’t want to get involved with them at this stage, especially the God of Intrigue, Benson. The King of Lies, a supreme god of pure evil, may not be as brutal as the Lord of the Abyss, but his skill in political manipulation and love for schemes certainly won’t make any actual god feel comfortable associating with him! Over the three years since his marriage, Donald has made thorough preparations to seize the throne and elevate his divine kingdom from the main world to the upper realms! His preparations even exceed those of ordinary lower gods—his kingdom’s size is already comparable to that of mid-tier gods! Thanks to the benefits he gained from the Ruins of Oblivion, he was able to accomplish this easily, even at a speed dozens of times faster than typical newly risen gods. Although those who returned from the Ruins of Oblivion and the godly strong ones guarding outside saw Donald and his group’s powerful and intact forces, no one knew that the one who benefited the most was actually Donald’s demigod incarnation as a new god.
The true origins and secrets of the Eternal Cemetery of Forgotten Ruins are likely known only to Donald, the Sphinx, and Loki. One of the latter two is a completely loyal servant who has made a pact with Donald, while the other is an otherworldly god who needs his help in some regard. Due to the secrecy of their own origins, they naturally won’t reveal these secrets to other gods in this universe! Thus, as an alien visitor who possesses such a shocking secret—even one that would shock the supreme gods of that universe—Donald has virtually no risk of being exposed!
