Volume 28: The Throne in the Starry Sky
Chapter 541: The Quetzalcoatl’s Entrustment
According to Donald’s memory, the Quetzalcoatl was a flying serpent and a sacred totem of the ancient Mayans. It was also a deity worshipped by the ancient indigenous peoples of Mexico, governing rain and harvests.
In ancient thought, birds and snakes symbolized the union of heaven and earth, spirit and matter, as well as the cycle of all things—yin and yang.
Donald had always thought of the Quetzalcoatl as merely a totem and legend imagined by ancient people. But after learning that there had once been a world of gods in the Earthly realm, he realized that creatures inherently embodying such principles were very likely to exist.
The Quetzalcoatl statue before him, along with the egg imbued with life force, clearly indicated that his suspicions were highly probable.
Apart from Donald, Sphinx, and Loki, the others were puzzled, as they had never heard of the Quetzalcoatl before.
“So it’s the Quetzalcoatl! No wonder such things happen.”
Loki clearly recognized this true god and immediately explained his background to Donald.
Although the Quetzalcoatl was only a mid-tier god, its innate ability to bring good fortune and luck, along with its powerful prophetic talents, earned it respect even from higher-tier gods and supreme deities who had dealt with it before.
The Quetzalcoatl was a noble, order-aligned divine creature by nature—beautiful in appearance, kind-hearted, highly intelligent, and eager to help other beings. These were its characteristic traits, and many primitive tribes worshipped it as a sacred being.
The life level of the Quetzalcoatl surpassed even that of dragons. Newborns of this race would automatically ignite divine flames upon reaching adulthood, attaining a powerful, immortal semi-divine status. However, such extraordinary talents also resulted in a very low reproduction rate, leaving the total number of Quetzalcoatl in the universe in the handfuls. “As the most powerful existing Quetzalcoatl, it has always been a steadfast supporter of the Mayan pantheon. Its status, even among higher-tier gods and kings, is highly respected by the true gods within the pantheon. If it weren’t for the fact that the more powerful a creature is, the harder it is for it to break through its racial limitations and reach a higher level, with the Quetzalcoatl’s wisdom, it would likely have already become a higher-tier god or even a supreme deity!”
Everyone was deeply shocked upon hearing this. Learning earlier that there were so many unknown and powerful true gods in this world had already shocked them greatly, and now they had even seen one of their relics with their own eyes, plus the testimony of a powerful higher god like Loki—so naturally, they wouldn’t think any of this was illusory! Instead, they felt even more the vastness of the universe and their own insignificance.
“I know why that guy, Jin Gu, is desperately attacking the barrier trying to get into this temple!”
As everyone was in awe, Sphinx suddenly spoke up.
“Oh? What’s the reason?” Donald asked, very interested.
Sphinx, acting like a proud child who had been asked a question, said, “Everything in this temple is clearly prepared for this egg here. I guess this is the child of that Quetzalcoatl god. The temple provides energy to sustain this egg’s life, but it doesn’t allow it to hatch—there must be some purpose behind that!”
“Are you saying Jin Gu came for this egg?”
“Yes, my master!”
Loki interjected, “I think I can understand Jin Gu’s thoughts. Even though it has perished, it still retains some consciousness. It likely wants to use this powerful egg to regain a new life and break free from the shackles of the divine tomb!”
As a true god who had once been on the verge of destruction, Loki was probably the one who understood best the thoughts of a fallen true god among them.
In fact, that ancient demon Jin Gu indeed coveted the life-giving entity inside the temple, but not for itself—rather, it was acting under the orders of its master, the world-destroying demon Tiamat.
An egg that had already been created but not yet fully incubated was a special form of life. If one could pour a remaining soul into such an egg, there was a high chance of obtaining the other’s life imprint, escaping decay and death, and becoming a new being.
Thus, the once world-destroying dragon could be revived from its downfall. Although it would no longer be the ancient dragon Tiamat, for one longing for rebirth, nothing could compare to that!
So, under Sphinx’s command, Jin Gu, though not fully conscious, instinctively carried out its master’s orders despite facing the threat of destruction.
With its thoughts recognized by a higher god like Loki, Sphinx held its head high in pride.
Donald gave Sphinx an approving look, then stepped forward and touched the surface of the egg, which was believed to be the offspring of Quetzalcoatl.
The moment Donald touched the eggshell, the entire temple space suddenly lit up. Within the brilliance, a sacred figure descended, and a majestic yet gentle voice resonated in everyone’s hearts. “Welcome, guests of the Mayan pantheon! I am Kukulkan, the former master of this temple!” The figure made of light took on the exact appearance of a mysterious and beautiful quetzalcoatl statue behind it. “The God of Quetzalcoatl?” Loki spoke up upon seeing this figure. Yet the quetzalcoatl figure did not respond to Loki’s words and continued calmly, “What you see is merely my spiritual projection. Surely the true me must have perished in that great battle!” “My child is likely the last being of the Mayan pantheon. I foresaw everything before the battle began, so I merged it with the core of the divine realm and a fragment of the material world, sending them into the depths of space, hoping it would have a chance to survive!” “My prophecies show that my child’s new father will surely be a true god of nature and order. His future will be incredibly powerful, and under his care, my child should be able to recover from the injuries at birth and grow up healthy! It’s a pity I won’t be able to witness that.” By this point, the quetzalcoatl figure’s tone carried both hope and regret. “My guests, everything in this temple space can be shared with you. As long as you hand my child over to the right person—whomever controls this projection—is my child’s guardian. Goodbye, my child!” Then, the quetzalcoatl figure gazed affectionately at the egg one last time before dissolving into a speck of light. After witnessing this, everyone present exchanged glances; clearly, the guardian mentioned by the quetzalcoatl figure was the one who had triggered this vision earlier. Moreover, what the quetzalcoatl figure had said made everyone wonder if Donald might truly become an incredibly powerful true god, just as predicted.
