Chapter 438: The Three Major Divine Roles
Every deity, especially those of faith, knows and masters certain specific things in the mortal world and certain laws of existence to varying degrees. In these areas, such deities possess absolute power and control.
Thus, this power is commonly referred to as a divine role.
Deities generally take great interest in their divine roles and related matters, and they often exert their greatest strength when dealing with these matters, sometimes even surpassing other deities who are stronger than themselves in these fields.
Every deity has a primary divine role, and may also have additional secondary roles. The primary role is the most important component of a deity’s divinity, akin to the beams and pillars of a house, while secondary roles are usually additional legal authorities held by the deity. These two generally coexist and are interconnected, giving rise to power in other areas.
Of course, the term “primary divine role” here does not refer to the Supreme God but rather implies something primary and official.
For example, if a deity is the God of the Sun, then his primary divine role is the Sun, while his secondary roles might include one or more aspects such as light, dawn, or dusk. The primary role is the strongest legal authority held by the deity, with the other secondary roles generally being related to or consistent with it. This means that a deity in the realm of goodness will never possess a divine role related to evil!
Regarding the choice of divine role, Donald had already thought it through. He did not choose low-level or less promising areas such as trees, jungles, or monarchical power, nor did he opt for the eight supreme divine roles that could lead to instant success.
After all, no matter how extraordinary the Codex of Gods is, it cannot directly grant Donald a supreme divine role. While some may try to achieve greatness overnight, most will end up failing.
So, after careful consideration, Donald focused on the three laws of nature, balance, and space as his long-term goals.
These three laws were determined by him based on the divine role areas recorded in the Codex of Gods. Among them, the divine role of space, as a fundamental law, is too profound even for higher gods—most deities only grasp a superficial understanding of it. Donald knew he was not yet capable of mastering this divine role. At his current level of divinity, he could at most handle divine roles of intermediate gods. Going any further would be excessive, even risking his divinity from being overwhelmed by the power of the law, let alone supreme or fundamental divine roles.
So Donald’s goal was merely to initially grasp the laws of space and establish a spatial domain; with his ability as a summoner to wield spatial power, this was something he could achieve.
The divine offices of Nature and Balance both belong to the eight supreme divine offices, and neither is something a newly risen god could covet!
However, thanks to the Codex of Gods, Donald could easily master the relatively simpler secondary laws associated with them, enough for him to officially become a true god.
In this world, there is no such thing as a supreme divine office; those that reach the level of higher gods are generally called higher divine offices, and the rest follow suit. Mastering the secondary laws derived from powerful divine offices brings immeasurable benefits to a true god’s future path.
Many true gods only realize this after successfully consolidating their divine offices or even ascending to the throne, but by then their path is largely fixed, and changing it would require incalculable costs.
Those like Donald, who are foresighted enough to plan their development path in advance, are probably only a few true gods descended from higher gods!
Even those born into divine families don’t have such a significant advantage as Donald, as their fathers don’t possess divine offices above the level of Dao that they could choose from.
For Donald, the process of consolidating a divine office was relatively simple. He already had some foundation in the realms of nature and space—especially in nature, as although most of the natural divinity had been integrated into the divine essence and creation of the Law God’s kingdom, his understanding of this divine realm still remained, and in his consciousness world, he possessed the spear formed from the secondary law power of “Nature’s Wrath,” which was the embodiment of natural wrath.
Thus, re-consolidating natural divinity and understanding how to form a divine office through it was the easiest task for Donald. The entire process took less than half a day, and without the help of the Codex of Gods, he already succeeded in obtaining a law power in the realm of nature.
Opposite to Nature’s Wrath, the divine office Donald formed was “Nature’s Protection.” Now that he had acquired his first divine office, he could be called the God of Nature’s Protection!
But this wasn’t the end. He continued to work hard to consolidate his second divine office.
In the realm of space, Donald still had a certain foundation. Through his research on summoner abilities and summoning spells, he had gained a basic understanding of the principles governing space. His understanding became more systematic after creating a demi-plane and establishing a divine kingdom. Although this knowledge was still relatively weak compared to that of true gods, Donald had a significant advantage: he possessed an elementary divine artifact, the Gate of Indefiniteness—a true elementary divine artifact that wielded certain powers related to space laws.
These laws mainly pertained to interdimensional teleportation and summoning, enabling Donald to initially master the spatial aspects related to summoning. Moreover, due to his reputation as a genius summoner, he was revered by many who understood summoning. Having also grasped the space laws required for interdimensional summoning, the will of the plane even granted him a divine priesthood as a summoner. Like racial priesthoods, such a professional priesthood had to be recognized by the majority of beings of that profession and race in order to take shape—this was likely why Donald received so much favor from the plane.
Strictly speaking, with the favor of the natural will, Donald was essentially like a half-son of the plane in his home world. Becoming a god there gave him advantages that other true gods could not match.
Compared to the realms of nature and space, he knew very little about the supreme priesthood of Balance—indeed, he was quite unfamiliar with it.
Laws are like a towering tree, with numerous branches at different levels beyond its main trunk. The law of Balance is one of the core sources of this tree; it is a supreme law derived from the two fundamental laws of order and chaos.
Although the term “balance” sounds simple, everything in the world depends on it. Without balance, there would be issues ranging from soil erosion and natural imbalance to species extinction, and even the collapse of planes and the destruction of the universe.
The universe constantly maintains balance between order and chaos. Where there is existence, there is destruction. Even the gods’ pursuit of immortality is, in essence, a quest for another form of balance.
These insights were derived from the teachings of the Book of Truth combined with his theories from his past life. This time, without any advantages, Donald relied on the help of the Codex of Gods and expended considerable divine power to create a derived realm related to the priesthood of Balance—the realm of conservation of energy.
Once this realm developed further and took shape as the priesthood of Balance, Donald would likely be at least a mid-tier god, or even a high-tier god of Balance.
With the help of the Codex of Gods, Donald combined his own power to forge another divine authority related to the law of balance—namely, the Demon Hunter. Since the legacy of the Demon Hunter, as a heroic class race simulated by the Book of Truth from another fantasy world, is no less powerful than that of the demi-gods in this world, Donald could achieve demi-god status merely by practicing systematically using the power of the Demon Hunter. With his power level already meeting the standards, it was not surprising that he developed a divine domain. Thus, this newly ordained true god unexpectedly possessed three divine authorities at once, one of which was a class-based divine authority that other true gods found difficult to claim—a situation unprecedented in the history of the main world. Aside from a few lucky geniuses, which demi-god did not painstakingly accumulate faith to reach the status of a new god? Moreover, they were already content with forming one divine authority and mastering one or two related domain powers. The domain powers of true gods are on a completely different level from those of legendary warriors. A legendary domain is merely a barrier formed by invoking a small portion of the power of the laws, whereas when the domains of demi-gods and true gods are unleashed, they can take the form of a powerful attack or defense, or even create a miniature world governed by the same laws in the main world—where the demi-god or true god becomes the ruler, controlling all rules and rendering beings of a lower order virtually incapable of resistance. Only forces of equal strength can break through such powerful divine domains. Compared to divine authorities, acquiring domains is relatively easier; once one masters a divine authority, they will inevitably gain one or more related domain powers. However, for true gods, understanding additional domain powers outside their own divine authority scope is quite difficult. Such additional domains often serve as the foundation for a new divine authority, requiring significant time and effort to comprehend and integrate before finally forming a full divine authority. For this reason, even powerful beings like the Lord of Dawn have no more than five divine authorities, highlighting the difficulty of acquiring them. Donald, in addition to his three divine authorities, immediately obtained five domains: Purification, Growth, Summoning, Energy Conservation, and Demon Hunting.
Among them, purification and growth are fields derived from the laws of nature, while the summoning field falls under the category of spatial divinity. At least energy conservation is one of the fundamental sub-laws under the law of balance. There is also a demon-hunting field, which is related to the balance field as well. The main world is a material plane dominated by order, whereas abyssal demons are invaders of chaos and evil. Eliminating and purging demons and abyssal influences represents an effort to find balance between order and chaos for the main world and even the entire universe. This is connected to the purification field, a sub-field derived from the intersection of the natural laws and the supreme divinities of nature and balance. If developed properly, it could fully become a purification divinity that allows one to achieve the rank of a mid-tier god.
