Chapter 410: The Path of True Gods
Believing in gods is, relatively speaking, the most widespread path among true gods. In the entire multiverse, most true gods follow this path. Reaching the supreme realm like that of a Supreme God means becoming the King of Gods, on a par with a Creator God! At that point, they are no longer affected by the power of faith and are essentially immortal. Even if the universe is destroyed, they can escape to another universe or create one of their own!
Law Gods take a different path from God of Faith from the very beginning—by relying solely on their own strength rather than the power of faith to endure the process of being transformed by the laws. Only those who do so truly qualify as Law Gods. The biggest difference between Law Gods and God of Faith is that Law Gods establish their own divine kingdoms within themselves, rather than placing their kingdoms in the outer realms of the cosmos and merging with the powers of laws to gain divine domains. For true gods, the laws themselves represent them.
At the ultimate stage, such Law Gods become what are known as Creator Gods. It is said that all existing universes were created by such supreme beings!
Regarding divine domains, since Law Gods create and control laws within their own worlds and use those laws to achieve their goals, they do not possess divine domains. However, they can also invoke external laws, but if they do not obtain the authority over laws like God of Faith, their priority will be lower compared to those who excel in similar fields.
The advantage of Law Gods is that they need not worry about being influenced or burdened by followers. Moreover, after successfully igniting their divine flames, they can use the power of faith to strengthen their own strength.
The advantage of God of Faith, on the other hand, is that after obtaining authority over laws, they can form avatars to act on behalf of their true forms. Additionally, once their divine kingdoms rise to the outer realms, it greatly protects the safety of their true forms—a feat that ordinary Law Gods cannot achieve.
Most true gods and even half-god warriors in this universe are aware of the advantages of Law Gods. Yet, even with the help of higher gods, it is impossible for an ordinary person to ignite a divine flame on their own and embark on the path of God of Faith.
Although true gods meet the conditions to ignite their divine flames through their own strength, those who have already become God of Faith cannot reverse their past choices, not even by using powerful supernatural spells to restore time to before they ignited their flames.
It is said that in the history of the main world, a powerful supreme god once did the same thing. Although its will was strong enough to withstand the process of rule transformation, it lacked sufficient power and could not replenish it through external means. During this experiment, it was unfortunately invaded by its rival true god in its divine realm. How could it, with the strength of an ordinary demi-god, compete against a powerful true god? It ultimately perished while attempting to ignite the divine fire.
Afterward, many true gods analyzed the process of this experiment, and all their conclusions indicated that even if it had not been attacked by its enemy, the chances of that true god successfully igniting the divine fire solely through its own strength, without any help from divine power or faith, were less than one in ten thousand. At best, it would fail halfway and have to rely on the support of its followers to embark on the path of becoming a god through faith in order to avoid destruction.
In the worst case, it might hold on to the end but fail to sustain the burning caused by rule transformation due to insufficient soul power, ultimately disappearing without a trace.
Therefore, later true gods regarded the so-called path of rules as nothing but a false legend or speculation, something no one could achieve. Moreover, true gods are already immortal beings; once they reach the status of supreme gods, they generally do not face destruction, unless they are extremely unlucky or become enemies of all true gods in the main world.
Take the Goddess of Night as an example. This powerful ancient true god has been destroyed and sealed many times, yet she still continues to be active in the multiverse. Every time she regains her strength, she possesses at least the power of a supreme god!
“Perhaps you don’t fully understand what a rule god is like. Such true gods are indeed extremely rare in my era. The God of Winter Wolves is likely the only rule god in the main world!”
Next, Sera explained what he knew about rule gods. Donald shook his head inwardly—although Sera came from ancient times, his knowledge was only superficial, as he was not yet a true god and could not access many secrets related to true gods. Donald, on the other hand, knew more about these matters.
With numerous advantages in this regard, Donald already had an idea that many true gods would consider fanciful—namely, he intended to follow the path of the Law God. After igniting the divine flame, he would undergo another process of being deified through faith, thus embracing both paths of true gods. He did this partly to confuse other gods and prevent them from discovering his identity as a Law God; after all, he might be the only Law God in the entire multiverse. So, what would the other true gods think? It’s likely that powerful higher gods would soon disregard their status and try to capture him as a test subject. On the other hand, the path of the Law God offered certain advantages over that of the Faith God, along with more backup options—something Donald valued greatly, as it ensured he wouldn’t be defeated by hostile true gods if his strength was insufficient. Planning ahead had always been his habit! Another advantage of being a Law God was that his divine kingdom resided within his own body, allowing him to enter the main world in his true form at any time without being constrained by the rules of the plane. This made it extremely difficult even for higher gods to capture him. Donald knew his will might not be as strong as that of Celt I, who had honed it over centuries, but he had the advantage of the Book of Truth, a high-tier divine artifact that even higher gods could not obtain. This gave him a huge edge on the path of the Law God that other deified beings lacked! Pure soul power was an effective means within the scope allowed by not relying on external forces to ignite the divine flame. Even higher gods could not gather such pure and intact soul power—any trace of external influence, whether it was faith power, divine power, magic, or sword energy, would lead one down the path of the Faith God. With such advantages, why not choose the path that was best for him? Why settle for a lower rank like that of a totem god? Totem guardians were among the lowest-ranking true gods, similar to those low-level totem gods in the Totem Continent, some of whom even had weaker strength than gold or legendary warriors of the same rank. They even gave rise to pseudo-totem gods like sacred spirits, ancestral spirits, and natural spirits, whose flaws were even more apparent. If Donald wanted to become a totem god, he could have done so long ago if he had wished—so why wait until now, when he was close to igniting the divine flame?
