Chapter 382: Alchemy Factory

Donald’s words clearly caught the attention of the High Lich.
“I certainly know this legendary spell ritual, but the specific methods behind it were lost thousands of years ago. Without this legendary spell, even a true god would find it extremely difficult to restore a lich to full life—unless that god is the Great Creator!”
Donald smiled and said,
“I know that as well. Although the Lich Rebirth spell has been lost, the Necromancy School of old had an eighth-level spell and a ninth-level spell that were simplified versions of this legendary spell. If we can master and understand the principles of these two spells, I’m 70% confident we can reverse-engineer a relatively complete Lich Rebirth spell. With my abilities in the realm of divinity to assist, I’m 80% confident we can complete the process of reviving a lich!”
“Is that true?”
Since it involved whether he could return to his normal human identity, even a calm-minded High Lich like Chikofield couldn’t help but become excited. Lich Rebirth wasn’t just about changing bodies—it meant gaining a new life in terms of both soul and life force. Although one would lose the immortality and other advantages of being a lich, they could start anew! All their knowledge and memories would remain, allowing them to regain their legendary strength within a few years—even reaching demi-god status wasn’t impossible!
So it was no wonder Chikofield took it seriously.
“Of course it’s true. I wouldn’t propose something I’m not sure about. From what I know, those two spells are the eighth-level Clone Spell and its advanced version, the ninth-level Stasis Clone Spell. Later generations of mages inherited them as part of the necromancy tradition. As long as we find a mage who knows these spells, it shouldn’t be hard to exchange them for what we need!”
The old mage interjected,
“Those who know these spells are usually necromancers, right? Either they’ve fallen to the dark side or, due to societal prejudice, they hide in secluded places and rarely interact with the outside world. It will likely be very difficult for us to find even one or two of them!”
“Even if there are masters who aren’t necromancers but know these spells, they won’t reveal them out of fear of judgment from others. So this is indeed a problem.”
The old mage had raised a valid point. Noticing the thoughtful expression on the half-blood dark elf mage beside him, Donald asked, “Jerm, do you have any clues? Share them so we can analyze them together.”

“I don’t know if it will work either. I remember hearing a legend in the Darklands that there’s a city in the Underworld ruled by male dark elf mages and other mages, which rejects dark races that worship the Spider Queen. It’s one of the few large neutral forces in the Darklands. Many kind and neutral underground tribes and small towns rely on them to survive! Back then, I had an exchange with a mage from there. According to him, one of the rulers of that city, a grand master known as the Immortal Wizard, was killed in front of everyone by his enemies, but reappeared the next day in his mage tower, younger by a dozen years. I wonder if this has anything to do with the cloning technique you mentioned?”
Chicofield immediately said excitedly, “It’s very likely!”
“As far as I know, cloning technique uses arcane power to create an inert copy. After the original dies, the caster’s soul transfers immediately into the copy to revive it. Of course, such a copy needs to be cultivated in a laboratory for at least four months. This method of resurrection also has many drawbacks, but with intent or not, it can still succeed in saving one’s life and granting another existence!”
Donald quickly asked, “Where is this mage city located?”
“That city built by mages is called Samas. It’s situated in the upper middle layers of the Darklands, underground in the Polin Kingdom region in the east of the continent. The nearest entrance is at the border between Gardrel and Polin. It’s said to be one of the few underground cities that doesn’t treat surface races as slaves and maintains regular trade with surface towns!”
Upon hearing this, Donald immediately made up his mind: “Since we know the location, we should send someone to visit that mage. With the resources I have, it should be easy to obtain one or two level-8 or 9 spells. Besides, such a mage-dominated city would be an excellent trading partner for our territory. I’m sure the various products from Dalaran would be highly desired, if not essential, in this underground world with scarce materials but abundant minerals!”
“Perhaps, if the conditions are right, we should build a mage tower near Samas and set up a portal. Then we can claim a territory there, and you, Jerm, would be the perfect person to oversee it!”
The Darklands aren’t ruled by surface kingdoms. As long as one has the strength to defend their territory, they can even declare themselves king without anyone interfering!

The mixed-blood dark elf was greatly excited and said solemnly, “My lord, rest assured. If it’s an underground environment like that, I’m confident I can handle everything!”
With the issue of magic spells having a temporary solution, Chikofield raised another difficult problem.
“As far as I know, spells like cloning require many preparatory conditions, all of which are quite stringent. Besides the materials needed for casting, the most important thing is a completely pollution-free laboratory environment. Even today’s alchemy laboratories probably can’t meet the standards of the Arcane Empire era!”
Donald frowned and said, “This is indeed a tough problem!”
Recalling that in hospitals and biology or chemistry laboratories on Earth in his past life, people had to wear sterile clothing to avoid contaminating the clean environment, which could lead to patient infections or failed biochemical experiments!
Although cloning here used magical power to replicate and cultivate a human body, the environmental requirements should be similar. It was hard to imagine what kind of mutated monsters could arise in a dirty laboratory filled with bacteria and viruses!
“It would be great if we had some alchemy equipment from the Arcane Empire era. Maybe reassembling it could meet the requirements!”
Hearing Chikofield’s exclamation, Donald immediately slapped his forehead.
“How could I forget this!”
He remembered the batch of alchemy devices he had taken from the Arcane Empire ruins in the Two-Legged Dragon Swamp. Aside from some simple instruments that modern mages could understand, which he had placed in the alchemy laboratory of the Twilight Mage Tower, most were stored in his own storage space.
Thinking of this, Donald quickly took out those alchemy devices in the courtyard of the lord’s manor.
Although Chikofield wasn’t an alchemist from the ancient alchemy faction, he had lived an extra dozen centuries, so he should know more about these ancient yet sophisticated alchemy devices than they did.
“You actually have these ancient and precious devices…”
Looking at the alchemy devices all over the courtyard, Chikofield’s Soul Flame trembled, clearly very excited. There had been quite a number of items in that alchemy factory back then. Donald didn’t pick and choose; he collected everything he couldn’t understand. He didn’t even skip items he didn’t know what they were. He almost emptied the entire factory. Even the ones he brought out were only because the courtyard couldn’t hold more—most of the rest were still stored in his space!
“This is a potion concentrator, this is a filter, and this is…”

Sure enough, although Chikofield had not been an alchemist specialized in alchemy when he was young, he was very familiar with these ancient alchemical devices, knowing most of their functions and complete operating methods.
“Great! With these, I can try to rebuild a small laboratory. If the equipment is complete, I might even be able to mass-produce alchemical items from ancient times!”
Donald smiled upon hearing this and said, “Don’t worry, Chikofield. There’s plenty of these. I even emptied an entire alchemy factory when I was in the ruins!”
“What?”
Even Chikofield, an immortal lich devoid of human physiological functions, became uneasy now!
Anyone familiar with this field knew that a complete alchemy factory was one of the ten greatest achievements of the Arcane Empire! Though not as formidable as achievements like the Sky City or virtual deities that even the gods feared, if alchemical equipment could be standardized and mass-produced, what impact would that have on modern society? It could even change the entire structure of the main world!
Donald recounted his experience entering the ancient alchemist ruins. Coincidentally, the location of the ruins was just outside the southern region of the kingdom where the rebellion had occurred. The Three Glorious Gods intervened in the internal conflicts of the Celt Kingdom under the pretext of Andrew. It was unknown whether the ruins in the Twin-Footed Dragon Swamp had been affected.
Even though some of it had been destroyed by the Golden Snake Dragon, what remained still held significant value for excavation, especially for mages below the rank of gold mages.
After learning about the situation of the arcane ruins, the High Lich immediately deduced that the ruins Donald had visited must have been the logistics base of the former Great Arcane Lord’s Sky City.
In that case, the alchemy factory there was at least of medium scale. He was confident that, after accounting for the expenses of the alchemy laboratory, he could at least rebuild a small alchemy factory for Donald!
Of course, Donald was delighted. He immediately took Chikofield to select a location, then ordered the administrator William to clear a piece of land on the west bank of Moonlight Lake as the factory site. He then promptly gathered architects and workers and deployed alchemical puppets to assist them in starting construction.
Since it was a sturdy factory building that didn’t require as much meticulous craftsmanship as a villa or estate, with the help of the powerful alchemical puppets, the main structure of the entire alchemy factory was completed in just three days.

Since the alchemy devices were already available, once the main building was completed, they could simply be assembled there. All of this could only be directed by Chikofield, with the help of the mages and mage apprentices in the territory. Fortunately, Dalaran now had nearly a hundred mages, including apprentices, and they could learn a great deal of ancient alchemy knowledge that had been lost over time during the assembly process. As a result, even for physical labor, many mages rushed to take on the work! Now, Donald truly understood the saying from his past life: “Having an elder at home is like having a treasure!” With his teacher by his side, he didn’t have to worry as much about either his own mage training or the safety of his territory. The old mage’s help was indispensable in achieving what he and Dalaran had accomplished so far. And the value of Chikofield, an ancient relic from two thousand years ago, was even more immeasurable! Just building this alchemy factory for him could create incalculable value!
