Chapter 373: Diverting Disaster
Plane Collapse is a level 5 spell. Although bronze mages can cast it, it requires a thorough understanding of spatial rules to master successfully, so few mages below the gold rank can wield it. Even among gold archmages, those who can cast this spell are extremely rare. Donald was able to master it thanks to his divine knowledge and the advantages provided by the House of Time.
The effect of this spell relies on spatial power to disrupt the boundaries between planes, creating a small rift that allows small objects to be sent to another plane or used to construct a two-way miniature plane portal. Since such spells can open plane portals, they can naturally also interfere with or even destroy them!
The advanced version of Plane Collapse, Massive Plane Collapse, creates a full-scale plane rift. Although Donald also mastered this advanced spell, as it is a level 9 gold spell, its 10-minute casting time—though not extremely long—is precisely what they lack now.
Thus, Donald abandoned the more effective level 9 spell in favor of the level 5 Plane Collapse. With limited time, he could shorten the casting time of level 5 spells using certain hyper-magical techniques. Coupled with his status as a legendary archmage, he managed to reduce the casting time to less than a minute. For a level 9 spell, it would be difficult to shorten the casting time.
Moreover, the plane portal here was only small. A small rift created by level 5 Plane Collapse was sufficient to disrupt its stability, preventing those behind from locating their exact coordinates in the main world and threatening its safety!
Once the black spatial blade generated by Plane Collapse disrupted the plane portal they came through, the teleportation light of the Door of Uncertainty enveloped the few people present, causing them to vanish into the abyssal world in the blink of an eye!
Just as Donald and the others left, a pitch-black beam—or rather, a column of light (who has ever seen a beam over ten feet in diameter?)—was fired toward the Necromantic Castle.
When that column of light struck the castle’s defensive barrier, which could even resist semi-divine warriors for a while, it was as if piercing thin paper—destroying most of the castle effortlessly.
“Cowardly vermin! Daring to come to the abyss to cause trouble! I’ll crush you!”
A thunderous voice that seemed to echo across the entire plane rang out. Its owner was a giant with an appearance resembling an orangutan.
The giant was covered in black hair, standing over a thousand feet tall, with swirling vortexes of dark power around it, like those of an abyss. No wonder such a powerful being would cause such a stir by appearing in the space between two realms! It casually destroyed several advanced demons that were not even worth fighting. Its huge blood-red eyes scanned the surroundings and quickly located the spatial passage between the Bone Wasteland and the Barbarian Demon Realm, as if the soil and rocks underground could not block its vision at all.
“I found it!”
“It’s a passage to the Main World! It’s been so long since I last tasted the delicious souls of humans!”
Opening its mouth filled with fangs, the giant licked its snake-like, forked crimson tongue, then used its massive hands to tear apart the soil, revealing the nearly collapsed spatial passage. Only attacks of sufficient energy or spatial power could disrupt the stability of the passage. The collapses caused by the giant tearing apart the soil had no effect on the passage’s existence. The falling soil and rocks, upon touching the already unstable passage, were either sent to another world or dissolved by spatial turbulence.
“You can’t escape!”
With a ferocious smile, the giant released a force to stabilize the collapsing passage. Then, red light shot from its eyes, forcing the original passage to widen into a black hole hundreds of feet wide. While this could maintain the passage’s stability for a while, the consequence was that once the force was used up, the passage would completely vanish. But the giant clearly didn’t regret this, as in its mind, reaching the Main World to capture those invaders and enjoy human souls was what mattered most!
Even though the passage was hundreds of feet wide, it couldn’t accommodate its massive body. To pass through, the giant had to shrink itself to ten feet in size and suppress most of its power before stepping into the black hole.
In the Main World, before the passage they came through, a flash of light appeared, and Donald and the others reappeared in the underground cave. After extreme peril, they finally returned safely to the Main World.
Before he could introduce them, he saw that the dimensional portal, affected by that spell and on the verge of collapse, began to stabilize again, even showing signs of expanding further. Donald was shocked and immediately shouted, “Kelsas, close the portal and activate the seal!”
The blood elf mage promptly carried out his master’s orders. Yet, the sealing spell array they had jointly devised earlier could not stop the portal from expanding; it could only slow it down a bit.
Donald sighed bitterly at this.
“It seems I underestimated the immense power of a being like the Destroyer Lord!”
Amphus said in terror, “Master, think of a solution quickly! Otherwise, before the gods discover his avatar and drive him out of the primary material realm, all humans and other creatures in this area will be destroyed!”
Hearing this, Donald was deeply shaken. That would not do—his own human territory was Dalaran. How could he allow his efforts to be ruined in such a short time? Even if it was the Destroyer Lord, one of the Three Lords of the Abyss, it was unacceptable!
With this thought, Donald clenched his fists, firming his resolve. He cast aside fear and worry, focusing entirely on devising ways to save his territory and prevent the Destroyer Lord from arriving.
As the dimensional portal continued to expand and cracks appeared all over the altar of the sealing spell array, on the verge of complete destruction, Donald suddenly had an idea. Remembering the underground cave environment they were in, he came up with a very feasible plan!
“Let’s go!”
With that, he teleported everyone with him. When they reappeared, they found themselves on the ruins of Scorpion Tail Flower City, the once dominant force in the northern part of the Darklands.
Meanwhile, Donald was using telepathy to communicate with Oniel, the Soul Devouring Demon who was temporarily residing in the semi-dimensional realm of Golden Heart Stealer.
“Oniel, this is where Scorpion Tail Flower City used to be. Tell me how to get to the nearest Heart Stealer tribe.”
He didn’t release it to lead the way because the main computer could obtain information from its mind.
“As you command, my master!”
After forming a contract, the Heart Stealer had completely abandoned its own racial identity and was utterly loyal to Donald as its master. It would execute any order, even leading an attack back to its own tribe, without hesitation.
Guided by O’Neill, Donald determined the direction and then said to those behind him, “I know there’s a Heart-Thief Demon tribe not far away. If we lure the avatar of the Destroyer Lord there, we can buy time as long as possible. The Main Material World imposes severe restrictions on abyssal creatures, especially powerful demon lords. They surely won’t be able to stay in the Main World for long!”
Upon hearing this, everyone’s eyes lit up—this was indeed the best solution at the moment! By diverting the threat, when the avatar of the Destroyer Lord chased after them, it would surely be led to the underground world. Even if it caused havoc in the Dark Regions, it would be hard for its effects to reach the surface world. After all, the underground world is vast beyond measure, and even gods would find it difficult to fully understand its environment!
This was also why Donald didn’t use the divine artifact, the Gate of Uncertainty, but instead employed teleportation magic to leave teleportation ripples, making it easy for the enemy to track him by following those traces!
So, led by Donald, the group quickly headed deeper into the underground world.
A few minutes later, Donald and the others, who had been rushing, sensed tremors coming from behind. Clearly, the avatar of the Destroyer Lord had caught up and was getting closer.
It surely wouldn’t have the patience to play hide-and-seek with them in this complex underground world, so it resorted to forceful methods to clear obstacles and chase straight for them. As for the damage caused to the environment of the Dark Regions? Please—if the Destroyer Lord cared about such things, it wouldn’t be the Destroyer Lord at all, but rather a king of environmental protection!
Soon, following O’Neill’s guidance, Donald found a Heart-Thief Demon tribe near the former Scorpion Tail Flower City. This tribe was the stronghold of the Mind Merchant Guild, the third faction of Scorpion Tail Flower City back then.
In the underground world, the best business was undoubtedly slavery. With their innate mental talents, the Heart-Thief Demons were skilled at enslaving the minds of other intelligent races—likely the best slave traders in the multiverse!
When they reached the outskirts of this Heart-Thief Demon tribe’s territory, the group unfortunately encountered a hunting party of these demons.
It was a group of over thirty, including controlled slaves, with five adult Heart-Thief Demons.
As soon as Donald and his group appeared, they caught the demons’ attention. Strangers entering their territory clearly meant nothing good.
After warning the tribe behind them, the demons screamed and attacked Donald and his group.
Donald, who was at the forefront, naturally suffered the most attacks. But soon, those Mind Flayers launching invisible attacks began screaming in pain as they held their heads. Protected by the high-tier artifact, the Book of Truth, which shielded his mind, Donald could completely ignore the attacks from these monsters skilled in manipulating souls—like a gentle breeze. Even without the artifact’s protection, his soul level and powerful divinity made it impossible for those Mind Flayers’ psychic spells to affect him; attempting such attacks would only result in severe psychic backlash! The vibrations from behind grew increasingly louder. Donald and his companions naturally didn’t want to engage further with these Mind Flayers. With swift actions, they eliminated this squad of Mind Flayers, whose strength was barely at the silver level. As for the slaves, deprived of the Mind Flayers’ control, their minds became chaotic, leaving them standing there in confusion. Ignoring these pitiful, unthreatening enslaved beings, Donald took two of those who appeared human and brought them into the demi-plane, while ignoring the obvious orcs, thereby causing a minor hassle for their pursuers—though it was a trivial one at that!
