Chapter 361: Chicofield’s Wish

“Welcome to my castle, esteemed legendary archmage. Your incantation spells are truly powerful—could they be sacred words learned from the Book of Ultimate Goodness, or bestowed by some mighty god?”
The undead lich, though its body was withered, still maintained the demeanor and grace of an archmage, speaking in a hoarse voice.
As undead creatures, they no longer possess vocal cords; instead, they use a form of ventriloquy-like ability to simulate speech through air resonance. Most undead, however, communicate mentally through the Flame of Souls.
Donald sensed no hostility from the lich. Though it was the master of this necrotic castle, this archmage clearly didn’t care about the lives of its undead minions.
Donald handed over the other vampire to Amps for control and then engaged the lich in direct conversation.
“As a spellcaster, I pursue the truths of the world. Not even the gods can shake my beliefs!”
Donald’s legendary wish-casting spells were somewhat similar to incantation spells, so he didn’t explain further. After all, he still didn’t know whether the other party was friend or foe. The so-called Book of Ultimate Goodness was an embodiment of order in this universe—a power even greater than ordinary laws. It was said that even benevolent and righteous gods and mortal spellcasters might have the chance to witness its manifestation and grasp one or two of its rules, specifically spells known as sacred words.
These spells were most effective against evil and chaotic demons, as well as undead creatures that defied natural laws, often capable of killing them with a single strike.
Yet even a powerful supreme god like the Lord of Dawn, who claimed to represent absolute light and justice, lacked the ability to master this embodiment of cosmic order.
Of course, just as there was the Book of Ultimate Goodness representing order and justice, there was also the Book of Evil representing chaos and darkness. The spells derived from these rules were called Dark Sacred Words, completely opposite to sacred words. The Book of Evil contained the filthiest, most evil, and terrifying words in the universe. It was said that Abyssal Tongue evolved from it, which explained how evil incantation spells like blasphemy and desecration could arise.
Hearing Donald’s words, the lich was overjoyed. Even though its body was dead, its soul still despised the gods and their followers.

If it were someone like a priest, this person’s attitude probably wouldn’t be as friendly as it is now.
“By Arcana, once again welcome, comrade on the path of seeking truth! Archmage Chikofield sends you his sincere greetings!”
Hearing the lich’s words, Donald could roughly guess his background.
So he returned an ancient mage’s greeting—a ritual passed down from the Archmage Empire that made the lich feel particularly familiar.
“Donald? Merlinna, a hereditary noble of the Banai Empire and the mage lord of the Northern Kingdoms!”
After Donald’s brief introduction, Archmage Chikofield also understood his background.
Although he had been in the Abyss for thousands of years, Chikofield still occasionally learned about the situations on the main world’s continents from other demons, undead, or travelers from the main world, so he still had some understanding of the current human situation!
“So you’re a mage lord of the Celt family. When I was still alive, I was also a member of the Banai Empire’s research institute and had dealt with the Celt family several times! It’s a pity that most of what the Banai Empire has passed down are non-mage families; our powerful mage lords have mostly perished!”
Hearing the ex-archmage’s sighs, Donald reassured him, “There is rise and fall—this is a law that all existence in the world must follow. Although the great Banai Empire has fallen, it still created new historical trends and spread and developed the profession of mages. Today, mages are the most powerful professional force in the main world. Though they can’t unify everything, they can stand shoulder to shoulder with the forces under the Godly Church. Powerful spellcasters have even imprisoned Abyssal Kings comparable to higher gods—something you, Chikofield, who are in the Abyss, should surely be aware of!”
What Donald was referring to was a legendary story widely known among the strong ones in the main world and even across the entire multiverse: the tale of a legendary witch who summoned and imprisoned Grant, one of the three great Abyssal rulers, the Fallen Monarch.
To imprison an existence comparable to a higher god with just a mortal body was an achievement too great to even be called a feat. That witch not only did it but was also said to have kept the Fallen Monarch locked in a chamber for years, giving birth to a child for him—hence why she was revered by all spellcasters as the Witch Queen.
Hearing this, the lich let out a hoarse laugh.

“Not bad. It’s been over a thousand years already—what’s the use of talking about those things? Speaking of which, Girl Igna truly deserves to be the legitimate heir of the Banedi Empire. She even dared to imprison a degenerate monarch—she truly lives up to the title of Witch Queen. Even among us of the older generation who still remain, aside from those with the immortal bloodline of elves and such, most of us have to rely on transforming into liches to survive. None of us can break through to the legendary realm. It’s truly a shame for the glory of magic!”
“Yes! It’s a pity that all the secret arts of the Mage Empire were lost when the Sky City fell. Otherwise, our mages’ lifespans would have been greatly extended. As far as I know, the mages also developed powerful legendary spells like the Lich Rebirth Spell, so it’s not hopeless to regain a normal human form!”
Hearing this, the lich shook his head. “I’ve been disappointed for too long. Aside from pursuing truth and freedom, I long ago gave up the idea of returning to my normal human identity. After waiting for hundreds of years, I finally have someone as powerful as you, a master from the main world, and moreover a mage. I believe my wish to escape the Abyss can finally be fulfilled this time!”
Upon learning of the other’s desire, Donald also dropped his previous wariness and asked, “Is there anything I can do to help, Senior Chikofield?”
“Exactly! My Soul Core Relic is in the hands of the Bone Duke. He has extremely great ambitions and certainly doesn’t act like an immortal being devoid of human desires. For the throne of the Undead King, he will never let me, a free laborer, escape his grasp. So I hope that someone can sneak into his lair, the Bone Fortress, while the Bone King and the Skull Shatterer, those two demi-gods, are away at war, retrieve my Relic, and then return to the main world together!”
“I’ve been preparing the dimensional teleportation array to the main world for hundreds of years, but the only person I’ve encountered was a Gold Mage. To infiltrate the Bone Fortress, one needs strength above legendary level to be safe. Although the Bone Duke is away, the defensive forces of his lair are not weak. There are as many as twelve powerful Skull Kings and Zombie Lords above Gold rank. Though most of them will go on campaign with the Bone Duke, those remaining are still extremely strong. Without reaching the legendary realm, it’s certain death. I can only send that Gold Mage back to the main world and wait for the next opportunity!”
