Chapter 347: The Supreme Brain Aisenshin

The tone of the other party made O’Neill feel a chill. Intuitively sensing that they could both speak and act on their words, he dared not use his mental powers to influence or control the human mage. Instead, he tried his best to disguise himself as harmless, speaking with an innocent expression.
“Oh?”
Upon hearing the Heart Thief’s explanation, Donald immediately became interested. Of course, he was also aware that this cunning creature intended to use this as a lifeline, but he didn’t want to let go of this race that was hostile to almost all intelligent beings.
So, an idea struck him. A contract document formed from mental energy floated in front of the Heart Thief!
“This is a master-slave contract. If you sign it, you’ll survive. If not, I’ll send you to your death. As for the soul of a dead Heart Thief, I’m quite interested in knowing about it! Also, don’t mess around with your pitiful mental powers. Even a legendary Soul Devourer can’t break through my mental defenses!”
Heart Thieves were skilled at controlling the minds of intelligent beings and feeding on their brains, which made intelligent races particularly disgusted. In comparison, repulsive undead creatures like vampires, skeletons, and zombies seemed much more endearing. Of course, it wasn’t that they looked better on the surface—it was a psychological effect.
After all, who would feel fond of a creature that craves the brains of its own kind?
Although Donald had never seen a Heart Thief feed, just thinking about it made him extremely uncomfortable. Naturally, he felt the same way. If it weren’t for the information they claimed to possess, he wouldn’t tolerate the existence of a Heart Thief in front of him.
Destruction was the only fate for such creatures!
Therefore, Donald left no room for negotiation—submission meant survival, or death. Anyway, he could obtain the secrets the Heart Thief mentioned, and even if he couldn’t, it wouldn’t matter much to him.
Seeing this, the Golden Soul Devourer O’Neill realized his plan to use that secret as leverage had failed.
As Heart Thieves, they were often more afraid of death than other intelligent beings. So, despite seeing the harsh terms of the contract, O’Neill had no choice but to sign it!
A master-slave contract was called that precisely because the restrictions imposed on the servant side were extremely harsh.

As the name implies, it involves transferring a part of one’s soul essence through a contract to be controlled by the master, with life and death resting at the master’s whim. Subjectively, the individual will fully obey the master, even if they originally harbored great hatred, which will not be affected. If the servant dies, it will have little impact on the master, at most resulting in a loss of some mental energy. However, if the master dies, the servant bound by the contract will inevitably vanish along with them—a death at the soul level that even gods find difficult to rescue. As one of the most unfair and costly forms of contract, no one willingly attempts it. It is usually imposed by the master, just as in this case. Moreover, those who can create such contracts, including gods, are few in number.

“Now tell me everything you know!”

Only after the contract was formed and fate served as witness did Donald feel relieved, though he still viewed the Heart-Thief with disgust.

“The God of Dawn wants a message in my mind. But what are we, the Soul-Suckers? We are a powerful race highly skilled in mental abilities. Even if we are inferior in strength, hiding an important message among countless thoughts in our minds is beyond even gods’ reach while we are conscious. Even the God of Dawn himself cannot do anything to me. Though I am powerless to resist, when they force me to search my memories, I can detonate my mental consciousness in advance, destroying what they seek. That’s why they kept me alive and imprisoned me.”

The Heart-Thief usually refers to itself as a Soul-Sucker; of course, other intelligent beings call them Mind-Suckers as well!

“But they don’t realize the strength of our souls. How could such torture shake my will? Every Soul-Sucker can transmit their pain to others, dispersing their own feelings. So, taking advantage of one of the guards’ inattention, I secretly confused him and seized the chance to escape from the heavily guarded prison. Yet before I could return to the underground world, they captured me again. This time, they intend to keep me locked in the deserted Light Purgatory, where I’ll suffer endless light and its temptations daily, forced to convert to the God of Dawn…”

After hearing this, Donald pondered for a while before asking, “What secret does the Lord of Dawn want to know?”

Under the influence of the contract, the respectfully obedient Golden Soul Devourer said humbly, “What that person wants to know is the greatest secret of our Soul-Draining race—the location where the secret hideout of the greatest Supreme Brain, Aisen Xian, lies!”
The Soul Devourers also have their own god. Their patron deity, Aisen Xian, is said to resemble a giant green brain with countless tentacles. The related divine domains include temptation, evil, knowledge, law, mental power, and tyranny. It is a powerful supreme deity.
Of course, these are just what the Soul Devourers claim, information spread through their own words. No one knows the actual truth, and the gods have never seen or come into contact with this deity of the Soul Devourers.
Therefore, after studying the life and social structure of the Soul Devourers, the God of Knowledge proposed the idea that this deity of the Soul Devourers is not actually a true god, but merely a powerful evil god, or perhaps just the strongest among the leaders of the Soul Devourer race.
This idea was supported by the fact that all Soul Devourers revere this evil deity, but only a few become its priests. It was also recognized by many intelligent races and their true gods.
Because only true gods who hold divine positions can broadly bestow divine spells on their followers, while those demi-gods, evil gods, or false gods can only grant extremely limited power to their followers—or even none at all!
Although the Soul Devourers once claimed this was a misconception and tried hard to refute it with examples, such as how this powerful true god once saved the only city of the Soul Devourers in the Dark Lands during a slave rebellion, Aisen Xian never showed up at all.
“So, does the Lord of Dawn plan to target your patron deity?”
The Soul Devourer hesitated before saying, “Master, if I reveal information about the great Supreme Brain, it can easily be detected by the Supreme Brain through the mental channel connecting us! Moreover, the Supreme Brain holds supreme authority over all Soul-Draining races and can sense the thoughts and memories of any individual…”
Donald waved his hand and said, “Don’t worry. You are now in my independent divine kingdom, completely cut off from the outside world. As long as you stay here, not even a supreme deity can sense your thoughts in any way!”
O’Neill was shocked upon hearing this.
