Chapter 310: Night Armor
The sturdy city walls, built from black boulders towering three hundred feet high, would likely cause even a dragon to suffer severe injuries trying to break through them.
Upon seeing the magic ship arriving and the cavalry below the fortress, the defenders of Dragon Tooth Fortress grew nervous.
It wasn’t until Duke Siren appeared on the deck and ordered the fortress, “These are Selt’s reinforcements—open the gates!” that the defenders cheered.
The gates were immediately opened to allow the Night Knights below to enter, while the magic ship flew over the fortress walls and landed directly on the training ground of Dragon Tooth’s defenders.
The Sirens founded their kingdom with cavalry, so defending cities was not their strength. However, successive Siren dukes had been wise rulers who, over generations, developed a specialized infantry force for defense—the Fifth Infantry Regiment of the Siren Knights. Its strength rivaled that of elite troops from other kingdoms, especially its archer squad and crossbow unit, which were a nightmare for enemies attacking Dragon Tooth Fortress!
Currently garrisoning Dragon Tooth Fortress were the first and second battalions of the Siren Knights, the elite forces of the Sirens. With over 1,500 members in total, including more than 500 full knights, the first and second battalions accounted for three-fifths of them—all seasoned veterans. There were nearly a hundred silver-ranked grand knights. While this number might seem small in terms of human warfare, it represented an extremely powerful force. The charge of a hundred silver knights capable of unleashing sword energy could withstand even an army of thousands. This was why a small principality like Siren, with relatively barren land but a highly developed commerce driven by its rich mineral resources, remained untouchable by any other forces.
Moreover, Siren had another force of about a hundred Earth Dragon Knights, its greatest deterrent. The combination of these massive beasts and silver knights made their strength far exceed simple addition.
The Siren Duke took his nephew to meet the senior commanders of Dragon Tooth Fortress, the true pillars of the principality.
Donald, on his own, went to the temporary camp of the Night Knights. Since entering Dragon Tooth Fortress, he could tell that Jack, the leader of the knights, was in a bad mood.
“What’s wrong? Lacking confidence?”
Jack looked up at his young lord and shook his head.
“No, it’s just that I saw many acquaintances and thought of the past! If those things hadn’t happened, I probably would have been with them, guarding Siren together. Maybe my children would already be several years old by now!”
Seeing his state, Donald didn’t know how to comfort him, so he raised his hand, and ten huge ironwood chests appeared at his feet.
These had been prepared by him on the magic ship during his journey for all the members of the Night Knights Order.
“Open them and take a look! We’re about to go to battle soon. These are gifts for you. I hope every member of the order returns alive!”
At these words, everyone in the order, including Jack, was deeply moved.
They were willing to serve such a lord. Initially, the Night Knights had little genuine loyalty to Donald as their leader, acting only out of obedience to their chief. But now, they truly felt a sense of belonging to him as their lord.
Jack opened one of the chests, and the colorful lights inside surprised him greatly.
“Are these—alchemical potions?”
Donald smiled gently and said, “Exactly. The red ones are healing potions that can instantly restore injuries of moderate severity and replenish lost life force. The blue ones are mental recovery potions, while the green ones are purification potions that can slightly restore mental energy and cleanse negative states. Combined, they can also effectively restore the sword energy and stamina of your warriors!”
“That’s—way too much, isn’t it?”
Donald just smiled without responding, signaling Jack to open the other chests as well.
Jack opened the second chest and saw it filled with exquisite dark black armor—a combination of high-grade magical beast leather and metal plates, balancing lightness and defense. It was clearly an expensive, enchanted armor piece worth thousands of gold sols.
“Are these all?”
Donald nodded. “Apart from the last chest, there are 300 sets in total. They can be adjusted in size. Have everyone try them on!”
Jack was stunned. Enchanted armor worth thousands of gold sols each—there were actually 300 sets of them! Usually, such armor was only reserved for fearful nobles, army commanders, or royal members. When would a member of a knight order be able to own such armor? Just how wealthy was the lord he served?
Jack quickly ordered his excited knights to open the chests and put them on.
The pitch-black armor lacked the metallic shine of ordinary knight armor, making it more suitable for combat. Its unique patterns not only possessed an unusual aesthetic appeal but also effectively deflected the force of enemy attacks. The biggest difference from regular knight armor was that this set was more breathable and lightweight, weighing only slightly more than leather armor. Most importantly, its clever design made it much easier to put on than ordinary knight armor. These knights could easily don it by themselves without the help of servants, taking no more than a minute.
The tall figures of the young knights from the Order of the Night Knights appeared even more heroic and imposing after donning this armor, exuding a powerful presence.
Since the Book of Truth was restored to the level of a lower-tier divine artifact, the capabilities of the Creation Factory had improved, lifting some restrictions. It could now create and replicate items other than those on the exchange list, provided there were materials and recipes, or by replicating others based on an existing item.
These armors were designed by Donald by combining human knight armor with elven light armor, along with styles seen in games and animations from his past life. After several revisions, the Book of Truth helped determine the most rational and aesthetically pleasing structure, resulting in their final form. Even the boots were in the style of stylish long military boots that Donald had seen, making them more convenient for combat. Made of magical beast leather, their defensive strength could compare to that of ordinary iron armor.
Although the cost of this set of armor was extremely high from an external perspective, with readily available materials—plenty of magical metal and high-quality magical beast leather—Donald was able to replicate 300 sets using less than a hundred drops of divine power. This was partly because these armors were enchanted with spells that maintained their properties.
With Donald’s current reserve of divine power, along with the contributions from the initially converted indigenous believers in the Planes of Totems, these resources were more than sufficient to sustain such production.
For him, creating a powerful knight force was worth the additional consumption of divine power!
The young knights tapped their new armor against each other and joked around, shedding the seriousness of the black-robed knights and showing some of their youthful temperament. They now looked at Donald, their lord, with respect mixed with affection.
At that moment, Jack, who had already put on his armor, stepped forward and opened the last chest. Inside were a few pieces of equipment and scrolls, with the rest being numerous tokens.
“Although these magic amulets aren’t as defensive as your armor, they are quite effective against energy damage and arrows. Those scrolls are group spells that can boost the speed, defense, and attack power of the knight order—use them in critical moments during charges. You surely understand their effectiveness better than I do. As for those pieces of equipment, they’re all prepared for you!”
Having spent many years in the outside world, Jack had a keen eye and immediately recognized that those pieces of equipment were top-notch, likely high-tier magic gear, each worth a fortune. With no achievements of his own, how could he deserve such rewards?
Noticing Jack’s hesitation, Donald spoke before he could open his mouth: “If the Order of the Dark Knights is a sharp blade in my hand, then you are its tip—so your safety is of utmost importance!”
Then Donald explained to Jack the functions and uses of each piece of equipment. Picking up the blue metal heroic helmet that increased its wearer’s strength and agility, Jack finally understood why his armor didn’t come with a helmet.
Jack wore the silver Resurrection Cross around his neck and tucked it inside his armor’s chest plate. Due to the constraints of this world’s laws, its function differed from that in the game—it became a substitute item that allowed its wearer to resist one fatal attack. Of course, the effect was similar.
All of this was specially prepared by Donald for Jack, the leader of the knight order—enough to turn the tide in critical moments, giving a chance to survive even in life-threatening situations.
“Brothers, our lord has given us the best rewards. With these potions, armor, and magic amulets, we’re practically one life more in battle. Now, we must dedicate our loyalty to our lord and drive those demons back to their abyssal home!”
The knights all raised their weapons, shouting with high spirits.
“Drive them back to the abyss! Drive them back to the abyss…”
The enthusiasm of the Siren guards observing these foreign knights seemed to be stirred by these young knights as well.
At that moment, Jack Black removed his mask, revealing his face. Seeing that familiar yet strange handsome face, the members of the Siren Knight Order showed expressions of excitement or surprise.
He had never revealed his true identity in front of those appointed nobles before, even restraining his impulses to see the woman he loved, out of fear of causing trouble for his team before going to battle. The guards at Dragon Tooth Fortress were all elite members of the Siren Knights Order, and most of the older members were people he knew. Since he would inevitably reveal himself in battle, it was better to let everyone know of his return in advance, rather than causing shock among these former knights and putting them at risk during the fight. Although he had been wandering outside these lands for years, Jack had never stopped gathering information about his homeland.
