Volume 17: The Sea God Bassetdo
Chapter 282: The Origin of the Divine Artifact
The golden divine artifact belonging to the Stone Bear God was not meant for defense. Thus, under the terrifying spatial storm it triggered, it could only save its life, leaving it severely injured and greatly weakened. Otherwise, it wouldn’t have been forced to flee in desperation.
As it was gradually drawn toward those humans, the Stone Bear God, after holding on for a few breaths, felt utter despair. Its strength was now less than one-tenth of its peak, and encountering a few more spatial rifts would mean certain death. Moreover, everyone knew that after this brief calm, a second terrifying spatial storm was about to strike.
So, the Stone Bear God resolutely abandoned the golden divine artifact. As the golden light was absorbed by the divine radiance, it took advantage of the momentum to swiftly dive into the water and vanish.
As for the Stone Bear God and the golden divine artifact, Donald could only focus on one at a time. He couldn’t spare the effort to deal with the other. Meanwhile, in such an environment, those who left the protection of the divine shield couldn’t act safely or return. Thus, they could only continue to draw the golden divine artifact under their control and let the Stone Bear God go.
Before leaving, the Stone Bear God’s blood-red eyes shed tears as it glared fiercely at Donald, the culprit, as if trying to engrave his image deep in its memory. If the hatred in those eyes could be turned into substance, even a defensive divine artifact might be burned through. But Donald seemed indifferent, ignoring it completely.
Since he had already offended the Stone Bear God, what did it matter if he offended it a little more?
“It’s better to seize the benefits first. It’s fine if the Stone Bear God, this demigod, escapes. After all, it will likely need at least ten to eight years to recover its strength. By then, I might already be a powerful demigod—so what’s there to fear?”
After storing the golden divine artifact and suppressing it with the Book of Truth, Donald only had time to catch a glimpse of the artifact, which resembled a ring. Without time to deal with the fleeing Stone Bear God, he immediately controlled the floating ice he was on and drifted away at full speed.
Decades away from the storm zone by the time Donald and the others left, they heard faint rumbling sounds coming from behind.
Looking back, they saw a massive storm sphere, at least ten miles in diameter, erupting from the storm zone. Countless fragments of space formed terrifying cracks that sucked in all the dark clouds and lightning in the sky. The destructive force generated by the shattered space continued to spread outward, slowly yet steadily. If they had remained where they were, they would likely have been reduced to nothing by now!
Seeing such a terrifying scene, everyone, including Carlisle, was filled with dread.
“Good thing we ran fast!”
Carlisle gasped for breath before smiling at Donald.
“What good thing did you pick up just now? Show it to us!”
Donald generously took out the ring artifact without holding back from others.
It was a ring made of bronze, with an inner diameter much larger than that of ordinary human jewelry, resembling a bracelet. Clearly, it was meant for beings of enormous size to wear.
After sealing this artifact, the Book of Truth understood its function through its divine essence.
This ring was called the Gate of Indefiniteness, and as Donald had predicted, it was an elementary artifact.
Its function was to allow teleportation to any location within its own plane. For Donald, who already possessed a powerful teleportation spell, this was somewhat useless. However, its next ability delighted him greatly.
With the Gate of Indefiniteness, one could set up teleportation nodes at any location, enabling travel across planes back to the desired place. As long as one had sufficient divine power, even chaotic planes like the Abyss could be traversed freely!
“Truly a genuine artifact—those lower-tier artifacts can’t compare!”
“Donald, you’re so lucky! You managed to injure that demigod totem god and steal such an artifact…”
Ignoring the amazement of Carlisle and the others upon hearing the functions of this artifact, Donald was also overjoyed.
This was his first elementary artifact. Although he already had the more powerful Book of Truth, he had long taken its existence for granted, considering it his foundation. Now that he had obtained an elementary artifact, he was extremely happy.
However, this elementary artifact wasn’t created by the God of Stone Bears. Powerful demigod totem gods could reach the strength of new gods or lower-tier gods within their own domains, but they were not truly complete gods—they were still demigods, just more powerful than ordinary ones.
So while they could create elementary artifacts, they had to pay a significant price for it.
The difference between magical items and legendary items is that a magical item may not be a legendary item, but every legendary item is definitely a magical item. The distinction between divine artifacts and the former two is simpler: magical items and legendary items can be created by anyone—gods, humans, abyssal demons, even goblins and orcs—as long as they have sufficient level, ability, and materials. However, divine artifacts can only be created by gods, as true divine artifacts must contain divinity. There is one exception: sub-divine artifacts, which are incomplete divine-grade equipment, can also be created by some mortals who have acquired divine power. For example, although Donald is currently only at the Golden Realm, as a divine being, if he is willing to separate a portion of his divinity and incorporate it into the magical item he creates, he can produce a sub-divine artifact. Of course, this can only result in a sub-divine artifact; true divine artifacts cannot be created this way. True divine artifacts, in addition to divine power, also require immortal objects to bind with the laws of authority, thus making them relatively eternal. Immortal objects refer to divine artifacts at the semi-god level or above, such as the remains of fallen gods, the bodily tissues, or blood of true gods! However, creating an elementary divine artifact requires a considerable amount of an immortal object—basically at least one-third of the body of a newly risen true god. Therefore, even if true gods lack divine artifacts, they rarely harm themselves to create them. Usually, they look for naturally occurring divine artifacts or search in the tombs and voids of the gods for remains and other materials. Thus, the Unfathomable Gate was given to it by the lesser totem god, Windstorm, under the patronage of the Stone Bear God. However, according to the Book of Truth, the Unfathomable Gate, an elementary divine artifact, was not created by Windstorm. Not to mention Windstorm, even the White Mountain God, who specializes in the spatial realm, would likely be unable to create such a powerful elementary divine artifact. This ring-shaped divine artifact, on the other hand, was obtained by Windstorm from an ancient ruin. Due to its great age, the information within the Unfathomable Gate has become somewhat vague and incomprehensible, but it is clearly a creation of a true god from ancient times. Powerful gods can directly seize the divinity of a divine artifact and sever its connection to its original owner. Other weaker gods can first seal the artifact and then gradually absorb its divinity, blending it with their own spiritual essence, thereby obtaining the artifact’s recognition through this gentle method.
But it’s basically impossible for ordinary people or even legendary warriors to use a divine artifact, unless the artifact itself recognizes them as its masters and allows them to use it. Such a situation is even rarer than ordinary people obtaining a divine artifact! When the God of Turbulent Winds discovered this ring, due to the demise of its creator, the divinity within the artifact had been sealed for countless years without nourishment from divine power. Although a complete divine artifact, as part of the rules of authority, is an immortal existence and thus not at risk of destruction, the spiritual essence within it had nearly vanished. So, it was easy for the God of Turbulent Winds to merge his own divinity with it and claim the artifact as his own. Now, the ring still contains the divinity of the God of Turbulent Winds. Once Donald breaks free from the constraints of the Book of Truth, the ring is likely to sense its master’s intent and fly away—ordinary legendary human warriors surely won’t be able to stop it! However, for the Book of Truth, which is considered the pinnacle among higher divine artifacts, this is not a problem at all. With enough divine power expended, it can instantly refine the divinity of the God of Turbulent Winds and turn it into something usable by Donald! After staying outside the storm zone of the Stormy Sea for a day, waiting for the spatial storm caused by the self-destruction of the secondary artifact to subside, Donald ventured back into the depths of the storm zone to check on the location of the safe passage. Half an hour later, Donald emerged from the storm zone under a divine power shield, his expression a mix of joy and sorrow. Vincent and the others waiting outside rushed over and asked, “How’s it in there?” Donald shook his head and smiled, saying, “It’s not that bad. The spatial storm destroyed all the nearby safe passages. Due to the storm, our passage here has been cut off from the Totem Continent!” Carlisle widened his eyes. “Is that not bad enough?” The female Sword Saint remained calm and said crisply, “Perhaps it’s lucky—we won’t have to worry about powerful totems coming through the passages to cause us trouble!” “Abel is right. But we shouldn’t think about using this route to the Totem Continent to seek advantages anymore. It’s likely that this safe passage has disappeared, and it’s unknown whether another will appear!” The others sighed upon hearing this. The destruction of the safe passage meant it would be very difficult for them to infiltrate the Totem Continent in the future to hunt for lower-level totem gods and obtain treasures like divine fragments. Fortunately, this trip had yielded significant gains, and with proper use, achieving legendary status wouldn’t be a problem. After all, hadn’t Carlisle and Vincent already broken through to become legendary Sword Saints one after another?
Vincent said with a smile, “Why worry so much? We’re already incredibly lucky just to be here. Let’s go! It’s been four months—we should head home…” After this thrilling journey to another world, their desire to return home grew even stronger.
Leaving the stormy seas, free from the influence of chaotic spatial forces, Donald cast a teleportation spell, and five figures appeared in the towns of Dalaran, the most prominent new territory in the North at that time.
