Chapter 273: Obtaining the Divine Essence
Seeing the totem and the green crystal appear, the God of White Mountain said with great joy, “Push harder! Once we purify the polluted forces within that totem’s divine essence, we can liberate the spirit of the Green Tree. By then, aside from her spirit and the ruins themselves, I can give you her divine essence and all the sacred artifacts collected as reward!”
The ruins of the Green Tree Goddess were originally a space formed based on her physical form, so it naturally couldn’t be separated.
Totem gods above the rank of demi-gods possessed divine essences akin to those of true gods. However, due to the constraints imposed by the will of nature, their divine essences lacked completeness, allowing them to exist only within their totems rather than merge with their physical bodies like true gods. Since both the totem and divine essence of the Green Tree Goddess had already appeared yet her spirit still couldn’t be freed, it meant she was nearing exhaustion.
Although the divine essence of a top-tier totem god was highly tempting, Donald looked at the God of White Mountain with clear and bright eyes, unclouded by greed. With a gentle smile, he said, “Though I trust your word, it’s safer to sign a contract. While the purification isn’t complete, please take a look at this contract!” With that, words of a supreme contract formed by spiritual power appeared before the God of White Mountain.
The God of White Mountain was deeply surprised. With a mere touch of his divine mind, he instantly understood the entire content of the contract and gave Donald a thoughtful glance.
“This contract is quite thorough. Even someone as powerful as me cannot violate a single clause. Yet I’ve never seen such a contract form in this world. Could it be you come from another world?” The Totem Continent was relatively isolated. Unless summoned intentionally from within, few beings from the outside world could break through the dimensional barrier to enter here. Although the gods of this world knew of other dimensions beyond their own, the constraints of the earthly machinery meant few gods left to explore them. Of course, the few totem gods who did leave lost their divine status and never returned, which was also one of the reasons why the gods here dared not go outside.
At this point, Donald was no longer afraid that the White Mountain God would find out. He simply said, “Within a hundred years, great changes will occur in this world. Whether these changes will be good or bad is yet to be seen. It is because of these changes that I came to the Totem Continent!” After hearing this, the White Mountain God remained silent for a while before saying, “I see. I will sign this contract. No matter which world you come from, as long as you resolve the threats to this plane’s passage and rescue Green Tree, I will not reveal any information about you, and the conditions I promised earlier remain unchanged!” With that, the man and the god signed the contract. Watching the contract turn into light and burn away, Donald finally felt relieved. He was no longer afraid that the White Mountain God would harm him directly or indirectly. The contract he had established was forged by the Book of Truth, without any flaws. As long as no being as powerful as a Supreme God intervened, it could not be broken. And the cost of breaking the contract would be too much for even a higher god to bear—the backlash from the forces of the endless river of fate. As more polluted forces were purified, the natural forces grew stronger. Donald could now act with full force without any reservations. The black mists formed by those polluted forces were no match for him. Another third of the black mists in the crystal disappeared quickly, leaving only a third that was insufficient to fully cover the totems and divine essences inside. Freed from restraint, the crystal divine essence, resembling a green star, was liberated. A figure surrounded by green light quietly appeared beside the White Mountain God. “How bold of a mortal! Thank you for your help!” said the elegantly beautiful woman, who was none other than the liberated Green Tree God in her spiritual form. Unlike the generally dark-skinned women among the local humans in this world, Green Tree God had fair skin, light green hair and eyes, giving her a naturally beautiful appearance. In her spiritual state, she appeared even more ethereal! When Green Tree God’s spiritual form appeared, the White Mountain God looked at her excitedly, his eyes filled with tenderness. Though Green Tree God seemed a bit shy, she still replied boldly. “They have an affair!” Even the simplest person like Donald could tell that these two must have already developed a deep affection for each other, almost ready to be together. Now he understood why the White Mountain God was so eager to help Green Tree God escape—not only did he enlist the help of the higher-tier Totem God above him, but he also went to such great lengths to find someone to deal with the polluted forces.
Thinking of this, Donald deliberately spoke kindly to the God of White Mountain, saying, “Everyone has their own desires; it’s just a transaction! Even if for other reasons, upon seeing such a devastating force of pollution, I would still offer help. So, it’s the God of Green Trees who shouldn’t thank me—if anyone deserves thanks, it’s His Highness of White Mountain. Without him, I wouldn’t have come here!”
Indeed, upon hearing Donald’s words, the God of White Mountain’s gaze toward him softened considerably. Clearly satisfied with his attitude, he probably wouldn’t treat Donald badly even without any contractual constraints!
“Green Trees, you’ve worked hard these years. If it weren’t for those two lords stopping me, I would have broken the seal and taken you away long ago!”
The God of Green Trees frowned slightly and said, “It’s good you didn’t act rashly. Otherwise, if we caused a global disaster, we’d surely bear heavy responsibility! We’re both immortal deities; a few hundred years pass in the blink of an eye. We have plenty of time to get along—there’s no need to rush!”
While Donald was clearing away the polluted energy, he saw that the two deities had already begun to flirt. So he quickly said, “Lords, now isn’t the time to reminisce. Let’s seize the opportunity and first resolve the issue with this dimensional portal!”
Hearing Donald’s reminder, the God of Green Trees felt a bit embarrassed. Although his spiritual form couldn’t show signs of blushing, he was still slightly annoyed and secretly pinched the God of White Mountain’s waist.
Being pinched by his beloved goddess, the God of White Mountain didn’t even cry out in pain. Instead, he beamed with joy, like a puppy that had stolen some meat. After all, the God of Green Trees was now in a spiritual form—seemingly having a body but unable to touch physical objects. He could only use his divine power to interact with matter. Even if pinched by divine power, the God of White Mountain’s physical body would feel pain. Moreover, as he was concerned about his beloved’s safety, he suppressed the rebound of divine power, leaving him without any means to resist—making the pain even worse.
Yet this pinch brought warmth to his heart, much to the God of White Mountain’s delight.
Ignoring those two affectionate deities, Donald muttered a few curses in his heart before focusing all his efforts on clearing away the remaining polluted energy.
Thanks to the power of Nature’s Wrath and his own enhanced strength, purging the polluted energy was several times faster than before. In just half an hour, less than one-third of the black mist was completely eliminated.
Looking at the now crystal-clear sealing crystal, the God of White Mountain no longer needed to constantly control it to prevent the black mist formed by corrupting forces from breaking through. With a gentle wave of his hand, the crystal disappeared, revealing the totemic divinity of the God of Green Trees and a space hole no larger than a pupil behind it.
With the restraining power of the seal gone, the dark forces behind that dimensional passage were about to flood back into this world once again. A glint appeared in the God of White Mountain’s hand as he brushed that hole, restoring peace to the space and making the hole completely invisible.
Truly befitting a god skilled in spatial power—he effortlessly erased the existence of that dimensional passage. In contrast, Donald and the others took a long time studying before designing a sealing array to seal a passage to the abyss.
“Take this!”
After completing these actions, the God of White Mountain tossed over a crystal ball the size of a football, containing several objects within. Among them was the brilliantly shining octahedral divinity of the God of Green Trees.
With the God of White Mountain’s capabilities and the God of Green Trees’ experience and talent, it was no problem to reassemble a divinity and restore half-divine strength. So Donald simply caught it without hesitation and stored it in his storage space.
“No need for thanks—this is what you deserve. Now I need to deal with the others at the ruins. Let the God of Green Trees talk to you; I’m quite interested in your world!” With that, the God of White Mountain vanished in a flash, leaving only Donald and the God of Green Trees’ spirits facing each other with smiles.
