Chapter 211: The Battle Between the Dragon and the Monsters (II)
Faced with the attack of the bottom-dwelling demon fish, Nozdorm, the Bronze Dragon King appointed by Donald, regarded these young dragons and hatchlings as his own, so he naturally would not allow them to be harmed. With a fierce roar, Nozdorm immediately transformed back into his massive dragon form. At 45 feet long, the Bronze Dragon was actually no smaller than the bottom-dwelling demon fish—indeed, even more formidable. Yet the ugly appearance of those demon fish, along with their terrifying mouths and tentacles, gave people chills at just one glance. In contrast, though dragons were fierce, they possessed a majestic beauty. The form of the Bronze Dragon was far more graceful than the hideous Black Dragon Donald had seen before—it was one of the ten great dragon races, second only to the Silver Dragon in size, though its close-combat strength fell short of that of dragons like the Black Dragon and Golden Dragon, known for their combat skills.
The appearance of this massive dragon once again caused shock among the people on the walls of Port Leyton, but those on the battlefield no longer cared about them. Under Donald’s orders, two young dragons led the hatchlings to the walls behind the stone defensive barrier, retreating hundreds of meters from the battlefield. Nozdorm himself remained in place, roaring as he faced off against the attack of the Golden Bottom-Dwelling Demon Fish.
The Golden Bronze Dragon, no longer hiding its strength, unleashed an overwhelming aura that stunned the large group of lower-tier sea beasts in the distance. The remaining higher-tier sea beasts became uneasy and stopped obeying the orders of the bottom-dwelling demon fish to charge at Port Leyton. Many even panicked and fled back into the water, heading frantically away from the port.
Tuue the Devourer, the lord of the oceans, was furious upon seeing this. He immediately fired a rainbow-colored jet at the Bronze Dragon, trying to distract Nozdorm. Then, using spells like Strength and Flight, he swung his powerful tentacles at the Bronze Dragon.
Ordinary bottom-dwelling demon fish were at most at the Silver level. Though their evil innate abilities made them as dangerous as ordinary Golden Sacred Beasts, ranking among the top three most feared monsters among all adventurers who ventured underground, ignoring their strange abilities, a Silver-level swordsman could easily defeat them, as their close-combat strength was inferior to that of ordinary magical beasts.
However, a Golden Bottom-Dwelling Demon Fish like Tuue the Devourer possessed far stronger spellcasting abilities. As a rare demon fish wizard, it was even more dangerous than a Golden Sacred Beast.
Although Nozdorm was immune to most spells targeting the mind and spirit due to his dragon heritage, effects like the confusion, blindness, and intimidation from the Colorful Jet had no effect on him. However, he could not avoid the colorful rainbow light emitted outside his body, which blinded him for a moment. Fortunately, dragons naturally had enhanced vision, so they weren’t as easily blinded by the colorful light as ordinary people. Against the tentacle attacks from the bottom-dwelling demon fish, after being caught off guard at first and taking a hit, he managed to counterattack each time. With a dragon’s formidable physique, the mutated infection ability of those demon fish hardly had any effect. Yet Tuue, the Devourer, saw that this tactic to confuse his opponent was working, so he further unleashed his own spell-like ability, Mist Veil, covering an area of several kilometers, including the top of the city walls, in thick mist. The humans in Port Leyton immediately fell into panic and chaos. The Colorful Jet was a spell that acted instantly, while this mist created a persistent effect. This cunning underground monster had good plans: he intended to use the mist to obscure the Bronze Dragon’s vision and hide in the shadows to launch a surprise attack. But he didn’t realize that the human mage watching from not far away possessed pair of Demon-Hunting Eyes with constant true sight, allowing him to see through mist, illusions, and other spells. He immediately used telepathy to point out the enemy’s location to his subordinates. Seeing the Bronze Dragon charging at him, Tuue, the Devourer, was shocked and quickly twisted his massive body to dodge. Though he had the Strength spell, the bottom-dwelling demon fish, as a caster, couldn’t compare to a dragon in terms of close combat strength—ten of them still wouldn’t match one dragon. With the Flight spell, his body’s agility increased significantly, allowing him to move his huge body easily. But soon, Tuue, the Devourer, realized something was wrong—his own vision was also greatly impaired by the mist he had created, leaving him unable to distinguish targets or directions. “What’s going on?” As an experienced caster, Tuue immediately understood his opponent’s plan. Nozdorm realized that since he couldn’t tell directions in the mist set by his enemy, he might as well release his own mist, rendering the cunning opponent blind as well. With his master providing guidance from behind, he would naturally have the advantage. So the Bronze Dragon immediately used his spell-like ability, Cloud Mist, to overlap it with the enemy’s mist. “Smart! That guy is fifty feet to your left rear!”
Donald praised Nozdorm for his cleverness atop the Stone Wall, then pointed out the location of his opponent. Nozdorm silently tried to slow down his movements; fifty feet was merely enough distance for a dragon over forty feet tall to turn around. Suddenly, a horrible scream came from the Bottom-Dwelling Fish Monster as it was caught off guard by the bronze dragon’s claw, which pierced its most vulnerable lower abdomen, breaking through its magical defenses and leaving a deep wound there. “Die!” Nozdorm, seizing the opportunity, pressed one claw down on the struggling body of the Bottom-Dwelling Fish Monster while using the other to dig deep into its lower abdomen, tearing apart some internal organs. Blood, red with an abnormal yellow tint, gushed out—clearly different from that of warm-blooded animals like humans. This attack nearly took half of the Bottom-Dwelling Fish Monster’s life. Severely injured, the Devourer of Thues no longer hid its power; a golden light burst from within its body, pushing Nozdorm’s massive body hundreds of feet away. Dazed, it was unable to fight for a while, then tried to use a teleportation spell to escape. “Trying to run? Stay here!” Donald cast a spell he had prepared earlier when he saw the Bottom-Dwelling Fish Monster attempting to flee. A faint beam of light, with an infinite sucking force, was emitted toward the opening teleportation portal, instantly sealing all spatial forces. This was a fourth-level spell, Dimensional Bell, the most effective spell against enemies like demons who relied on spatial teleportation, capable of blocking any movement across space or even dimensions. After numerous magical disasters, human mages had developed strategies to deal with demonic creatures. Human nations that relied on mage power, such as the Mage Kingdom of Lin and Gardrel, would even disclose effective methods against demons and reduce or waive the costs and requirements for learning them. The Bottom-Dwelling Fish Monster did not possess the strong and widespread spatial talents of abyssal demons, so it could only use the ordinary teleportation spells it had learned, unlike higher-level demons who could instantly unleash quasi-magical teleportation abilities. Therefore, if timed correctly, by shooting the Dimensional Bell’s beam at it just as it cast a spell and before it could teleport away, not only could teleportation spells be stopped, but even large-scale interdimensional teleportation could be halted. The wounded Bottom-Dwelling Fish Monster had no choice but to abandon its spell and try to cast it again. But Donald and his companions gave it no such chance.
