Chapter 74: The Wolf King

Cheri and the others brought a large amount of firewood and placed it at the entrance of the cave. Watching the wolves wandering back and forth outside, they felt a chill in their hearts. There were so many of them—roughly sixty or seventy, by estimation. This number filled Rod with shame; if all of them rushed at them at once, it would be truly troublesome.
Looking at those wolf packs in the darkness, with their green eyes glowing, it was terrifying. Rod and his group firmly guarded the entrance and, through coordinated efforts, quickly piled up wood all around it. If those beasts dared to get close, they would light a fire to drive them away.
Perhaps growing impatient, the largest wolf in the Silver Moon Wolf Pack let out a long howl, its gaze suddenly becoming sharp. A flash of green light passed through its eyes as it charged toward the cave entrance first.
Rod had been following these creatures for a whole day, and now that this opportunity had finally arrived, how could he miss it? Perhaps Rod and the others never imagined that they had already been targeted by this damned wolf yesterday. Only after gathering so many accomplices did they finally dare to attack tonight.
The wolf pack rushed swiftly toward the cave entrance, and everyone prepared for battle! A basic fire magic—Fireball—appeared above the piles of wood. Instantly, the fire caught in the prepared wood spread rapidly, with roaring flames blocking the wolves’ path. At the same time, a water magic—Water Curtain—appeared at the entrance, sealing it off completely. The transparent liquid formed a barrier that flowed slowly, and through it, the flames outside appeared colorful and beautiful.
The flames forced the wolf pack to halt their attack, forcing them back under the scorching heat. True growls could be heard; they hated such flames the most. Looking at the humans in the distance, the Wolf King growled anxiously, while the other wolves wandered around, unsure what to do.
“This won’t hold them back for long. We don’t have enough firewood. Not to mention how long we can keep the flames going, would the Silver Moon Wolf Pack just let their prey slip away so easily? They won’t allow it, and the Wolf King certainly won’t. Once desire overcomes fear, we’ll be at the mercy of our enemies’ scythes!”

A voice came from behind, instantly turning serious the expressions of those who had just breathed a sigh of relief. Turning around, they saw Lucia and her maid at the entrance of the cave. Looking at the wolf pack outside, she was even calmer than them. Since they met her, they had never seen her show any signs of panic. Such composure was truly inconsistent with her age.

“How did you get out~!” Rod asked in a low voice as he glanced at Lucia. Though they hadn’t spoken much during these past two days, it had changed his perception of her greatly. She wasn’t some wealthy noble lady or a mere ornament—she was definitely worthy of her beautiful appearance! After getting to know her better, Rod sometimes even felt a bit sorry for her. As a lady from a noble family, being hunted like this must be even more painful for her than for anyone else.

“I came to check on our comrades. If you die, it won’t benefit me, and if I die, it won’t benefit you either. It’s better if we help each other and return to the capital together!” With those calm words, she stepped forward a few steps. Seeing the Silver Moon Wolf King wandering back and forth at the front, Lucia couldn’t help but frown. “A Silver Moon Wolf King with nearly Silver-level strength is indeed rare, especially in such a remote area. Usually, wolf packs rely on their group combat skills to survive in the middle levels.”

Near Silver-level strength—wasn’t that almost on par with the Red Armored Snake? But unfortunately, it didn’t have the same abnormally high defense as the Red Armored Snake. Rod felt a brief sense of relief, confident that he could compete with this creature.

“We want to find a way to eliminate the wolf king. Only by doing that can we strike the wolf pack and make them fearful!” After a moment of silence, Lucia looked up at Rod and the others and said.

The wolf king was the core of the pack. As long as it was alive, no matter what happened, the wolf pack would not retreat—there was no doubt about that. So, to shake their resolve, the first step was to kill a few to warn the rest, to teach them a lesson by killing the wolf king.

“We want to too, but… look at those guys outside. Anyone who goes out will likely be attacked by the whole pack and trapped, waiting to die!” Bit said with a wry smile, looking at Lucia. With years of mercenary experience, couldn’t he see the key to this situation? He was just at a loss for solutions.

Silence. A long silence. It was indeed a problem.

Outside, the raging fire continued, with the wolf pack lingering outside it, howling and adding an eerie and cold atmosphere to the quiet night.

Under the intense flames, it didn’t take long for the firewood to be almost completely consumed, and at that point, the flames began to fade gradually.
“There’s nothing left to burn!” With no reserves left, they could only watch helplessly as the flames died out, unable to do anything about it. Rod even saw the Alpha Wolf and the others in the pack staring at them with excited expressions, waiting patiently for an opportunity to strike.
“That’s not good—if it attacks us, we’ll be in trouble!” Bit said anxiously, frowning.
The entrance to the cave was over three meters wide, making it difficult to use it as a last line of defense. The Silver Moon Alpha Wolf alone was enough to force them to submit, not to mention the help of the others.
“I’ll go!” As the flames neared extinction, Rod stepped forward, gripping his Dark Dragon in his hand.
“But you…” Bit said worriedly, looking at Rod’s physique and recalling his previous condition.
“We have no choice but to fight. Otherwise, we’re all doomed. Aida and Cheli, cover me from behind. Bit, protect those people and work with Aida and Cheli to hold off the wolves. We must not let them break through.” Taking a deep breath, Rod gave his orders firmly. It seemed this danger was even greater than the attack by the man in black.
“Remember, the Silver Moon Alpha Wolf is extremely fast. Don’t try to outspeed it—don’t get entangled in a fight. End it as quickly as possible! And after the battle, remember to dig out its eyes and gallbladder and swallow them right away!”
Stepping forward and looking at Rod, Lucia began giving instructions, to everyone’s surprise.
“Eyes and gallbladder? I understand!” Though Lucia’s words puzzled Rod, he trusted her instinctively. He knew about wolf eyes—eating them was said to improve eyesight. But what about wolf gallbladder? He wasn’t sure of its benefits. Still, he trusted Lucia wouldn’t harm him; she must have a reason for asking him to eat it.
“And also, be careful of the Alpha Wolf’s wind magic—its unique wind-based spells!” Everything else was manageable, but this was the most dangerous and troublesome aspect. It was also why the Silver Moon Alpha Wolf was so terrifying. At this level, they were practically masters of both magic and combat—two magical beasts with near-silver-tier strength. One could only imagine how fearsome they were.

He nodded firmly, his gaze solemn and his expression resolute as he let out a loud shout. Just as the wolf pack rushed toward the cave entrance, Rod also moved. Wielding his Dark Dragon Sword, he charged at the wolves. In an instant, he was among them, focusing on his target—the Silver Moon Wolf King. With a sweeping strike of his sword, followed by thrusts and slashes, he executed simple moves, but under the power of his combat energy, the sound of his sword swings sounded incredibly formidable.

Seeing someone attacking it, the Wolf King quickly dodged using its insane speed, letting out a furious roar. Most of the wolf pack stopped and rushed at Rod, while the rest continued toward the cave entrance.

“Damn, it’s really fast!” After several attacks, he hadn’t managed to cause even the slightest harm to this guy—not a single hair had been cut off. Instead, he himself was surrounded by the Silver Moon Wolves and faced grave danger, sustaining several wounds.

He didn’t know what was happening behind him, but it was obvious the situation wasn’t good. He could feel the magical attacks bombarding him from behind.

“Give it my all!” With a loud roar, ignoring everything else, he instantly activated his Shadowless Sword. A gust of wind blew, lifting layers of fallen leaves from the ground. Rod’s body turned into a white flash and disappeared into the darkness. When he reappeared, he was eight illusions moving rapidly, switching positions back and forth!

This stunned the attacking wolves and the Wolf King for a moment. Seizing this chance, all eight illusions rushed to the Wolf King’s side and swung their swords. Though the moves seemed simple, they blocked all possible escape routes for the Wolf King from all directions.

With a howl, the Wolf King opened its mouth and roared loudly. Instantly, Rod could clearly see several invisible beams of energy flying toward him.

Ding ding ding… He quickly stopped his attacks and slashed at those beams, producing several sharp sounds.

Pfft… A dull sound came. As he dodged, the wind blades that had passed by him shifted their targets to the wolves attacking him. Two Silver Moon Wolves were cut in half and died instantly in this unjust attack.

Seeing this result, Rod was impressed—these wind blades were incredibly powerful.

It was the wind magic, wind blades. At this moment, the Silver Moon Wolf King realized the enemy’s strength and boldly used its ultimate skill.

Before Rod could stabilize himself, another wave of magical attacks began, with countless wind blades rushing at him.

The Silver Moon Wolves that had been fiercely attacking them moments ago, upon seeing this, also let out roars before quickly scattering in all directions. With the wolf king enraged, its subordinates certainly didn’t dare get involved.
