Chapter 62: The Dark Dragon’s Turn

“Kill!” Seeing the men in black charging forward, the officer of the Dark Legion also shouted loudly. Instantly, a fierce battle erupted in the chaotic valley.

Centered around the carriage, soldiers from the Dark Legion and members of the Swift Wind Mercenaries engaged in a bloody fight with the men in black.

Hidden among the crowd, Rod drew his black sword, Dark Dragon, and swung it at the man in black rushing toward him. Not surprised when the opponent easily dodged his swift strike, everyone knew this battle wouldn’t be easy. Since the enemy knew their identities yet still acted so recklessly, they must be fully prepared to fight head-on—how much could their abilities differ?

As expected, the battle was extremely tough. Even among the men in black, there were magicians.

Vibrant magic covered the sky. Despite their injuries, the two magicians on Rod’s side—Aida and Chelly—also unleashed their spells: fire and water, along with the wind mage from the enemy camp, sparking a magical duel between them.

The sounds of weapons clashing, screams, roars, and curses filled the air. Blood flew, lives were lost, and darkness reigned. Ignoring what happened around him, Rod and Bit fought side by side, protecting the carriage behind them at all costs.

“Shadow Sword!” With a roar, Rod pushed off hard with both feet, wielding his sword like an arrow shot from a bow. Swinging Dark Dragon at lightning speed, multiple versions of Rod appeared, attacking the man in black from all directions.

Caught off guard by Rod’s sudden move, the man in black, who had never seen such a bizarre tactic before, was stunned and didn’t know how to respond.

Seizing this moment of hesitation, Rod thrust his sword deep into the man’s throat. The man stared at Rod wide-eyed, unable to utter a word. Blood flowed down from his throat with gurgling sounds; he seemed to want to say something, but clearly couldn’t anymore.

Pulling back Dark Dragon, blood splattered. Touching the blood on his face, Rod found himself enjoying the sight of the enemy’s life fading away.

Watching the black-clad man’s gaze gradually dim as he fell with his eyes wide open, a sinister smile appeared on his lips as he rushed toward Bit to assist him in jointly killing the other black-clad man. On this critical battlefield, no one noticed the subtle change in the Dark Dragon after Rod killed that black-clad man and it became covered in blood. Its otherwise pitch-black body now showed a faint dark red hue, and a flash of dark light made the blood on the sword’s surface disappear instantly. With Rod’s addition, Bit, who had been in a precarious situation, suddenly felt relieved, and the situation took a dramatic turn. The two of them attacked the black-clad man from both sides, leaving him at a loss, with the sound of weapons clashing incessantly. They kept pushing the enemy back, turning the battle in their favor. As expected, in no time, with Rod’s fierce roar, he seized an opening and drove his long sword into the black-clad man’s chest, bringing down another foe. “Kill!” His eyes turned slightly red, his desire to kill seemingly ignited at that moment. At that point, it seemed Rod had no other thoughts in his mind except killing; he paid no attention to the magic flashing around him and rushed wherever there were black-clad men, as if he had endless strength. His attacks from both sides created chaos, but this behavior also brought hope to the struggling Dark Legion and Windy Mercenaries. Riding on Rod’s momentum, they fought their way back, quickly reaching the blocked entrance of the canyon. “I’ll open the way; hold them off!” It was Bruce’s roar. By this point in the battle, both sides had suffered heavy losses. Even more devastating for their side was that only a few dozen soldiers remained in the Dark Legion, and the Windy Mercenaries were down to just over a dozen members. Such a sharp reduction in numbers showed just how fierce the battle had been. Of course, the black-clad men also paid a high price. Although they had a Golden Warrior, he was held back by an officer from the Dark Legion. Landy demonstrated exceptional combat skills, killing no less than ten black-clad men at his hands. The most surprising figure was Rod, who, with his relentless attacks from all sides, managed to kill seven or eight black-clad men. Given the intensity of the battle, it was no longer safe to stay there, fearing the arrival of reinforcements. The obvious goal of pushing toward the canyon entrance was to escape from this dangerous place.

“Charge in!” Seeing his men fall one after another while the enemy continued to hold firm, with their main target remaining unharmed, the leader in black grew anxious. Moreover, now they saw the enemy approaching the exit of the canyon. Although it was blocked, it was obvious that with the destructive power of those warriors, it would soon be broken through! Once the canyon gate was opened, everything would be clear—his carefully planned scheme would vanish, the enemy would surely escape, and his plan would fail. What’s more, he couldn’t even imagine the consequences of failure. He was well aware of the organization’s discipline and rules.

“Damn you, little brat! Let’s see you shout!” With a roar, Rod, in the heat of battle, charged at the leader in black, seemingly forgetting that the enemy was a Golden Warrior and ignoring the huge difference in strength. He grabbed his Dark Dragon and charged forward, wielding his sword wildly. Wherever he went, it felt as though he killed anyone in his path—no god or deity could stop him. At that moment, the fighting spirit within him surged like boiling water, with every element seemingly on fire. A strange sensation arose—was it excitement? He couldn’t tell!

The injured Dark Dragon seemed to sense its master’s mindset, emitting a low hum as if declaring its strength, bringing a sense of affinity. After killing another enemy in front of him, he got closer to the lone leader, with more wounds on his body. Blood flowed freely, mixing with the enemy’s blood, warm against his skin. Strangely, he felt no pain—it waswonderful, as if something was driving him to keep fighting. A drop of blood from his forehead slid down his cheek and landed on the Dark Dragon. With a sizzle, white smoke rose, though Rod didn’t even notice. It was a minor change—the blood instantly merged into Rod’s body.

The next moment, Rod sensed something was wrong. He felt an inexplicable heat entering his body, his internal energy being rapidly absorbed. The blood from his wound flowed faster, moving down his arm toward the Dark Dragon. “What… what’s going on?” Sensing the abnormal change, he stopped in his tracks, his face turning pale. He spoke to himself.

No, the next moment, the change became even more apparent. The combat energy within his body seemed to be drawn by this gravitational force and rushed away rapidly, with the little remaining combat energy being completely absorbed.
“Damn it!” he cursed silently, while hurriedly using his energy to absorb external fire elements. Being suddenly separated in such a dangerous situation made Rod sigh in frustration.
With each bit of fire element absorbed, it was immediately drawn away by the Dark Dragon, leaving his body empty—a feeling that made Rod frown tightly!
Seeming to sense something was wrong with Rod, two men in black suddenly charged at him, their cold weapons emitting a glint as they rushed forward.
To make matters worse, Rod was in such a perilous situation, being hunted felt terrible—just like when he had hunted others before. Those guys must be feeling just as bad, he thought silently, frowning further. Without time to think more, he ran away to the side. He wasn’t stupid enough to fight head-on; fighting now was like using an egg to hit a rock.
A bizarre scene unfolded—the pursuit by the two men in black became the biggest highlight of the moment.
“Damn it, Bit! What are you waiting for? Come quick! I’m dying!”
With a grim expression, Rod shouted loudly at Bit over there.
The flow of blood only made him feel more weak and exhausted.
At Rod’s plea, Bit didn’t waste time this time and rushed over to give him some help.
“Damn you guys! I’ll chop you all to pieces!”
Bit’s arrival allowed Rod to breathe a sigh of relief. Then, ignoring the situation, he grabbed the Dark Dragon and swung at the enemy.
A gentle force suddenly emerged, making the Dark Dragon seem as light as a feather. With one swing, its speed was countless times faster than before. Before the man in black could react, he was split in two, then into eight—without any hesitation.
Without a chance to scream or bleed, the man was split in two. Perhaps that man in black would never understand why the once helpless pursuer suddenly erupted like this. He could only lament his unjust death.
Even Rod was stunned by this sudden change. A sinister smile appeared on his lips. Ignoring the changes in the Dark Dragon, he grabbed it again and chased after the other man in black. Now, the situation had reversed—Rod was chasing the man in black around, while the latter screamed in terror.

The sense brought by the dark dragon did not diminish. After killing one person, its pull on Rod seemed to slowly weaken. Suddenly, a streak of dark light flashed by and entered Rod’s body. A wave of warmth spread throughout Rod’s body instantly, causing him to stop pursuing.
