Chapter 145: The God-Annihilating Thunder Tribulation (Part 1)
At the moment everyone was stunned, the dark clouds in the sky spread at an increasingly rapid pace. After reaching a certain saturation point, they began to compress strangely, shrinking to normal size yet resembling a black hole that extinguished even the faint light of dawn. It loomed above Rod’s head, its contained power making the people present tremble.
This energy far surpassed that of an ordinary forbidden curse, reaching a terrifying level. Dark lightning bolts flashed within the clouds, moving swiftly like dragons and filling people with dread. Their power even exceeded that of the magic “Nine Heavens of Thunder” once used by the Purple-Winged Thunder Eagles!
Rod, however, was unaware of any of this. He had devoted his entire focus to fighting back the raging lightning energy within his body, barely managing to control it. The tingling sensation in every cell left him with no time to pay attention to anything else. He felt a strong pull as he slightly brought the energy under control—the purple lightning acted like an endless ocean, exerting immense traction. He sensed an invisible force of lightning gathering outside, growing more terrifying, complementing the purple lightning within his body.
These discoveries filled Rod with alarm. He realized things were bad—uncontrollable consequences loomed if he didn’t act quickly. The oppressive pressure from that invisible force made him shudder; he couldn’t allow it to erupt.
“Damn it, what are you doing?” Feeling the terrifying energy, the middle-aged dragon and Hei Yao shouted at the members of the Purple-Winged Thunder Eagles.
This energy even filled them with fear. In their view, no one other than the Purple-Winged Thunder Eagles would do such a thing—it must be they who had done something secretly, otherwise how could such a mutation occur?
The dark clouds covered Rod’s head, emitting an invisible energy that prevented the two from approaching. It felt as though once they got close, that energy would explode instantly, beyond their ability to resist. What would happen to Rod then was obvious.
“Stop it now, do you hear me? Purple-Winged Thunder Eagles!” Gnashing his teeth, Hei Yao roared loudly at them.
The air fluctuated, and another shadow appeared out of thin air. Upon seeing the thundercloud, a hint of surprise and tension flashed in the newcomer’s eyes. He then turned to look at Ao Ying and the others, saying, “Stop now if you don’t want to die!” His cold voice dropped the temperature of the entire area by several degrees.
Although his face was covered, the icy gaze from his exposed eyes pierced straight into everyone’s heart.
Not only these three people but also several members of the Purple-Winged Thunder Eagle clan and the Nash family were shocked by this sudden occurrence. They had no idea what was happening and felt even more wronged than Dou E—this was clearly not their doing. Seeing the determined expressions on their faces—two powerful beings above the intermediate divine level and a mysterious and eerie woman—all of whom were not people they could afford to offend—how could they stop if it wasn’t their fault?
But after a moment of shock, a sense of satisfaction arose in their hearts. Heaven may forgive sins committed by others, but not those committed by oneself. In their eyes, this was heaven punishing that damned Rod.
“Hurry up and attack!” Feeling that the energy not only hadn’t weakened but was growing stronger, Hei Yao and the others turned icy-faced. With a cold snort, the middle-aged man from the Dragon clan took action first. A slender silver sword appeared in his hand at some point, and he roared at Ao Ying. He unleashed all his aura, creating a fierce wind and radiating murderous intent.
“It really isn’t us… Sir, it really isn’t us!” Feeling the murderous intent, Ao Ying and the others grew anxious. They also didn’t know what was going on. Seeing the Dragon clan man’s cold demeanor, they panicked a bit. Though they hoped Rod would be killed, if they really angered these three people and they united, none of them would survive. At that moment, fear took hold of them.
“Stop talking nonsense! Don’t try this on me. How could I not recognize the magic of your Purple-Winged Thunder Eagle clan? If anything happens to Rod, your clan is doomed to die with him!” Hei Yao also said coldly, his expression dark. His murderous intent was unhidden, and everyone felt the fire element in the world rapidly condensing and enveloping him.
“You… really want to turn against my Purple-Winged Thunder Eagle clan just for such a guy? Our Purple-Winged Thunder Eagle clan is a vassal of your Black Phoenix clan. Will you really ruin the relationship between our two clans for this unknown individual?” Hei Yao’s heartless words immediately changed the expressions of the members of the Purple-Winged Thunder Eagle clan, who asked in frustration.
At that moment, they realized how serious this situation had become. Rod’s identity was not ordinary—he was a member of the dragon clan. If they were killed in front of these dragon clan elders, not only would they not be able to leave alive, but both their clan and the dragon clan would be plunged into war! On top of that, this guy had close ties with the Black Phoenix clan and the forces led by that mysterious man in black. If things really escalated… they began to feel some regret.
If possible, they really wanted to stop gathering that energy at this moment, but since it wasn’t them who did it, how could they intervene?
“If something happens to him, your Purple-Winged Thunder Eagle clan will pay the price. The Trade Association will pursue this to the end!” A figure rushed swiftly from afar and arrived before them in no time. It was an old man with a youthful face and white hair. He seemed ordinary, yet an eerie aura radiated from him, making it hard to breathe.
“You… does the Trade Association also want to intervene for this guy?” Their expressions darkened as several groups suddenly sided with Rod. The members of the Purple-Winged Thunder Eagle clan and the Nash family felt their hearts sink. They didn’t know Rod’s true background. If he were just a dragon clan member, it wouldn’t have caused such a stir. Everyone knew the four major clans had surface harmony but deep discord, especially the Trade Association, which would never act rashly over an ordinary dragon clan member.
“He’s no ordinary person. A Purple Star VIP of my Trade Association isn’t someone you lowly scoundrels can kill at will. Do you really think the Trade Association has no one?” With a cold snort, the old man glared coldly at them. Killing the young clan leader of the Purple-Winged Thunder Eagle clan for a Purple Star VIP was nothing—such a person meant nothing in front of a Purple Star VIP.
“Purple Star VIP!” At the mention of these four words, everyone except Hei Yao and that middle-aged dragon clan member showed expressions of shock and disbelief.
They knew all too well what a Purple Star VIP meant within the Source of Darkness—it was equivalent to an entire family, a being at the pinnacle of the Source of Darkness. How could it be possible? How could this guy be a Purple Star VIP? Even the leader of the Purple-Winged Thunder Eagle clan had only obtained the status of a Silver Star VIP by chance. Although he was portrayed as having the status of a Purple Star VIP and was indeed on the verge of reaching that rank, it wasn’t the case yet. The gap between the two was enormous.
A strange silence fell over the scene; all that could be heard were the gasping breaths of a few people. Clearly, this news had shocked them deeply.
“Impossible! How could he be a Purple Star VIP? Impossible! You’re lying!” The pride in his heart sank as he realized he had killed a Purple Star VIP. If others found out, he would face endless punishments at the trade fair, and even the Purple-Winged Thunder Eagle clan wouldn’t be able to protect him. How could this be possible? He refused to believe it—refused to believe this man was a Purple Star VIP!
The status of a Purple Star VIP was extremely noble; ordinary people could never attain it. Why could this guy have it?
“Hmph! Believe it or not! I order you to stop this magic immediately, or face the consequences!” With a cold snort, the old man stood with his hands behind his back, staring at the group before him with a murderous glint in his eyes.
“It really wasn’t us! What do you want us to do? It wasn’t us! Can’t you see that?” They were frantic, utterly desperate. The members of the Purple-Winged Thunder Eagle clan, especially Pride Eagle, were devastated, regretting joining this pursuit. This damned guy was actually a Purple Star VIP—wasn’t he digging a grave for his own clan?
Boom… boom boom boom… Before the old man could speak, an immense amount of energy erupted in the sky. Thousands of black lightning bolts danced within the dark clouds, creating a terrifying scene. An invisible pressure made it hard to breathe, and those present were pushed dozens of meters away by that force, like a lone boat tossed about in a vast ocean. They were utterly powerless to resist.
Even powerful beings like the middle-aged dragons, Heiyao, the old man, and the man in black couldn’t do anything—unable to get any closer. In the face of nature, their seemingly terrifying strength turned out to be utterly weak and useless, incapable of any resistance.
Boom… A black lightning bolt as thick as a calf plunged from the sky, rushing straight at Rod like a black dragon and engulfing him.
“Damn it!” Several people shouted in anger at this sight, but they couldn’t get any closer. It wasn’t that they didn’t want to—it was that they had tried, only to be flung back by the force of that energy with no chance of moving forward even an inch.
The energy within that lightning bolt was truly terrifying; it was clearly the power of a forbidden curse spell. Who could be responsible for such a scene? They knew it had nothing to do with the Purple-Winged Thunder Eagle clan present, as they still didn’t possess the ability to create such a powerful attack.
Before the first lightning bolt faded, a second one struck immediately, accompanied by a deafening roar—utterly terrifying! The people there could only watch anxiously, praying for Rod.
